APRIL

Damn Teresa! The vindictive viper had made her presence known.

Apparently, she did follow through with her threat, and not only did I receive the police report, accompanied by a restraining order—as if I wanted to get anywhere near them—but she had also taken it upon herself to tell everyone that her son's broken nose happened when my lover confronted him.

I do not know how the audacity of that family continues to surprise me. Now, to everyone I knew, I was the slut who hurt their beloved son. Someone with no morals who was not worth the trouble.

Clearly, the police report was dropped when I threatened to publish the fictitious photo of her son in the local newspaper.

As for me, I started receiving calls from David's friends. My parents thought they were insults, but after being told about my new profession as a slut, I was only receiving shameless propositions. Dirty perverts! That situation was getting tiring.

My parents had cut ties with the Lanes; both families criticized the other's child for what happened. At times, I felt a little sorry for their ruined friendship.

I took refuge in my work; it was my personal space, where no one could hurt me.

"Hello, April." Just what I needed, Chad's sister.

"Iris, how strange to see you here. I do not recall treating your dog before." The sarcasm in my voice was impossible to miss.

"I just came to see how you were doing after what happened at the wedding and the days that followed. It is none of my business, but..."

"You are right, it is none of your business," I confirmed, crossing my arms over my chest. "Look, Iris, we are not really friends, and I am absolutely sure your brother has already filled you in on everything. That is, if he did not take it upon himself to fill your head with lies too."

"Clearly. I just wanted to check how you were doing, but you are still a bitch. You could have used your fat ass for something other than sitting on it, and maybe you would not have been traded for someone else." I was so angry I thought I would hurt my hand again or break it completely.

"Are you serious? I cannot believe this. Come on, step up and say that to my face." Once my anger is unleashed, there is no going back.

The witch pressed her lips together and stepped toward me, accepting the invitation, which I appreciated so I could shut her mouth.

"April, do not fall for her game, and you, get out." Summer, my assistant, grabbed my arm and pulled me behind her. "I do not understand how you can come here after your brother stole her fiancé." She said it so coldly that Iris left without hesitation. "You need to calm down, you cannot fall for these games. Why do you not take the rest of the day off?"

"I will. I need to go return something. I have been putting it off, but I will do it." I sighed, grabbing the bag with the jacket in it. "If my parents call, could you make something up?"

"And what if David calls?"

"Tell him I went to see my lover." I almost choked on a laugh.

I am usually a calm person, but these past few days I have clearly lost it.

Now, heading over to see Ryan, I feel my hands sweating and the heat suddenly rising.

When I arrive, I do not see anyone. Maybe they had an emergency and had to leave. Bad luck!

As I am writing a thank you note to leave next to the bag, a hand rests on my shoulder, making me jump and scream out of nerves.

"Little pom-pom? I had forgotten how well your lungs work." Oh no, not again.

"They seem to work better around you," I said smiling, but immediately turned serious again. "Is Ryan here?"

"Sure, come with me." I thought about it for a moment. Just a moment, and I followed him. "He has been working out, that is why you did not see us downstairs."

Upon entering, I could see not just one, but five other drool-worthy men in front of me.

Ryan, who apparently noticed my presence, turned to look at me.

"April." His face lit up when he saw me.

"Hi!" I greeted, raising my hand, receiving a collective greeting in return.

"What happened to your hand?" Oh, right.

"Umm... it had a run-in with my ex-fiancé's nose." I hear a loud burst of laughter next to me and turn to see Michael doubled over laughing. Little by little, the others start joining in, and I can only laugh with them.

"You hit him?" Ryan exclaimed. In a way, I felt he was worried, but amusement was winning out.

"I hit him," I exclaimed enthusiastically. "He deserved it. But putting that aside, I came to return your jacket and apologize for leaving the way, well, the way I left."

"It is okay, bunny, but now come here and let's talk about what happened." I hesitated whether to do it or not, but given my track record with men, it is best to decline.

"I am sorry, I cannot. I sneaked out of work early, maybe another day." It is not true, but he does not need to know that. It is just that he makes me feel so many things that it would be best to distance myself a little.

"We do not take no for an answer, right guys?" The bastard used everyone, who gladly supported him.

"Okay, just for a few moments. After all, I have already been labeled a slut." I blurt out without thinking.

"What did you say?"

"Well, let's start the story..." I do not know why I trust them. Maybe it is just the need to hear an outside opinion. To feel a little understood. Or maybe it is the attraction to Ryan; he could get me to tell him anything.

That is another reason not to get close to him again.

APRIL"April, what is wrong?" It was the third time Summer had asked me without getting an answer. "Come on, trust me, I do not like seeing you like this.""We need to get Mr. Patterson's bulldog ready, he will be by to pick him up in 20 minutes. Can you check that everything is in perfect condition?""Sure, April, I will do it right away." She sighs, annoyed, but I will not say anything to her."Thanks..." I could not help but replay the conversation with my father over and over in my head.Around noon, I see Ryan walk through the door. We had agreed to have lunch together, but with everything going on, I had forgotten."Bunny." Just that makes me relax. Taking me by the waist, he leaned in to place a kiss on my lips. "I hope you are ready to get out of here." I simply wrapped my arms around his shoulders and hugged him.I needed a hug so much today."So my mother was not wrong, and you really are a slut?" That voice, one I had loved so much over the years, and now it only makes me f

MeganI do not think I have ever seen anyone as upset as Jack is right now.On the way to his house, he did not say a single word. I guess his head was full of things, while I did not say anything because I was too scared to open my mouth. When we walked into his house, things did not change much. His body was giving off a sort of "do not come near me" signal, and God knows I was not going to."What were you thinking? I only asked you to stay inside." Even though he did not yell, his tone made me feel so small."I wanted to be responsible...""Do not lie to me, angel, and do not lie to yourself. What you wanted was to prove that you are not weak. You thought, I will go to school and show everyone they are exaggerating. Well, breaking news, you were wrong, and you exposed everyone in a ridiculous way.""I know I made a mistake, but I really did not think he would dare. The school was full.""The building I pulled you out of was too, and that did not stop him from setting it on fire. Yo

JackWe were called for an apparent emergency, but when we arrived, there was nothing. I cannot believe people joke about this; while we are coming here, we might be needed somewhere else. My annoyance only grows. I still haven't spoken to my angel; I am getting the damn cold shoulder just for wanting to protect her. I look for my phone thinking about calling her to see how everything is going, but I cannot find it. I hope I did not lose it."Jack, we have a problem." I looked at Nathan, who was holding his phone."What happened now? A fake cat stuck in an imaginary tree?" I sighed in anger."No, actually, it is a moon trapped in a school, with a fire and a wolf," he shakes his head as I erupt."She dared to escape! I asked her to stay in the house. Is she foolish?" I growled so loudly that my teammates took a step back."Calm down, Jack, Ryan is taking care of it." Nathan's amused tone had vanished."Let's go to the school," I say, already heading to the truck. "What are you waiting

Megan"Children, continue with your work, I will be right back." I walk out of the classroom with a calmness that I clearly lack. I approach the door to Susan's classroom and knock until she comes out."What is wrong? You are pale and you look scared." Her look is worried. Do I really look that bad?"He is here. My God, Susan, I should have listened to Jack. Do not tell him I said that, but I cannot believe he actually dared to come. What are we going to do now?""I will go find Jeremy, you call Jack." What? No..."Um... no. We can solve this. I am not suicidal enough to tell him I sneaked out. Susan, I am sure he hasn't even noticed yet.""Do not start right now," she looks at me, annoyed. "Call him, this is serious, Meg." And with that she leaves, surely to look for Jeremy.I look through the door's window at the calm children, oblivious to the lunatic nearby. I cannot be so selfish and not protect them. Sighing, I take out my phone and prepare for a battle I have already lost. I he

MeganTelling Susan that I would stay with Jack was not as easy as I thought, especially with her making a scene. The good thing was Jeremy's presence and the fact that Jack promised he would not let anything happen to me. But that was a walk in the park compared to the conversation I am having right now with Jack."You cannot tell me not to go to work, that is crazy. Do you understand that it is my responsibility?""Now is not the time, angel, you do not understand things. Here at home you will be safe, there is no need for you to expose yourself like that." My eyes narrow and my patience reaches its limit."If this is how it is going to be, I am leaving. Not just to work, I am leaving this place. You do not own me, Jack. I have been working non-stop for two years, I cannot just leave everything hanging, do you understand? Besides, Susan and Jeremy will be there, they will not leave me alone, nothing will happen to me.""You are not going, angel, and that is my final word." Damn poss

MeganI see him before me, and he looks devastated. Perhaps I am being selfish; it cannot be easy to tell someone you are a wolf. I am a damn selfish witch!"What you said does not bother me. I was surprised that you were a wolf, but I am scared of what you might do to me." His expression is uncertain, and I know that is my fault."I would never do anything to you, angel. To hurt you would be to hurt myself. Since I discovered you were my mate, I have done nothing but protect you. After what happened yesterday, I have no intention of letting you out of my sight, even if you do not want me around." He lowers himself, sitting against the wall just like me. "I will not be like your ex-boyfriend. I intend to protect you from him.""When you asked me if I believed in the supernatural, well, I thought you had already figured it out. I mean, I never imagined you would tell me you were one yourself. I knew you were hiding something from me, but I thought of many different things." I was so wr
