Arabella stepped out of Edwin’s office with her mind in turmoil. The answers her father had given her felt too neat, too rehearsed. She bit her lip, trying to push away the strange feeling gnawing at her chest. But no matter how hard she tried to ignore it, the unease only grew stronger.

As she reached the sidewalk, raindrops began to fall. At first, they were gentle, but within seconds, a heavy downpour engulfed the city. Arabella raised her hand to shield her face as the wind howled, whipping her long hair in every direction.

“Great! Another downpour,” she muttered, regretting her hasty decision to leave the office without an umbrella or a raincoat.

Terraverde Village had been unpredictable lately, caught in the midst of seasonal transitions.

Not wanting to stand in the rain any longer, she waved at an approaching car, assuming it was a taxi. To her dismay, the vehicle sped past her, splashing dirty water all over her clothes.

It was only then that she realized—it wasn’t a taxi.

The car moved slowly through the quiet city streets. The dim glow of the streetlights cast soft shadows against the window, painting fleeting images that disappeared as quickly as they came. Arabella sat silently in the passenger seat, her gaze distant as she stared outside. Mike, his hands gripping the steering wheel, stole occasional glances at her. He wasn’t giving up. He didn’t care whether Arabella was married or not.“Bella…” His voice was gentle, almost a whisper. “I know you’re still mad at me. I know I let you down.”Arabella remained silent, her hands folded in her lap. Only the soft hum of the engine and the rhythmic patter of rain filled the space between them.“I never wanted to hurt you,” Mike continued, tightening his grip on the wheel. “I regret it. Ever since you got married, I haven’t stopped thinking about how I should have fought for you. How I should have tried harder. I was a fool for letting you go.”Arabella took a deep breath. Her eyes were still fixed outside

The golden hues of the evening sky seeped through the large windows of the rehabilitation room, casting long shadows on the polished floor. The faint scent of antiseptic mixed with the soothing aroma of freshly brewed tea. In the center of the room, Harry sat in his wheelchair, his gaze fixed straight ahead, locked onto the parallel bars standing tall before him.The medical team was already in position. A stout, middle-aged physiotherapist named Dr. Raymond stood beside him, his expression calm yet encouraging. “We’ll start slow today, Harry. There’s no rush,” he said patiently.Harry inhaled deeply. He knew this wouldn’t be easy. His legs had long lost their strength, his muscles had weakened, and the pain that awaited him was inevitable. But determination burned in his chest. He had to walk again.Dr. Raymond crouched beside him, gently assessing the condition of his legs with careful hands. “I’ll help you stand first, then we’ll try small steps. If it hurts, tell me. Don’t push yo

The morning air outside the window was still cold. The sun had just begun to rise, painting the sky with hues of golden orange. Arabella sat at the dining table in silence—something that had been rare in the past few weeks.Breakfast was usually a battlefield between her and Harry—over countless things. But today was different. Harry was unusually quiet. He wasn’t bossing her around, nor was he provoking an argument. He looked like a teenager lost in thought.Seated across from her, Harry sipped his black coffee slowly, occasionally glancing at Arabella as she nibbled on a piece of toast. The clinking of cutlery against porcelain echoed louder than usual in the quiet atmosphere. No sarcastic remarks from Harry, no sharp words or pointed jabs—just silence stretching between them.“Harry.” Arabella’s voice finally broke the stillness, soft yet resolute. “I want your permission to go to work today.”Harry lowered his cup, raising an eyebrow with an unreadable expression. “Oh?”Arabella n

After Arabella left, Edwin immediately called Harry, furious.[What do you mean? You’re not supporting Arabella? That was part of our deal!] Edwin's voice rose, filled with accusation.Harry leaned back in his wheelchair, trying to contain his own anger. [I don’t understand what you mean, Mr. Edwin.][Don’t play dumb! You made her come here and beg for a job. That means you’re not giving her enough! You broke your promise!]Edwin emphasized each word sharply. [Listen! Arabella came here wanting a job!]Harry ran a frustrated hand over his face. [I never abandoned her. Be careful with your words, Sir!]Harry clenched his jaw. He knew Arabella had lied about her job. But why would she go so far?The man let out an irritated huff. He needed to teach Arabella a lesson so she wouldn’t do whatever she pleased.***The sky was turning a shade of purple when Arabella finally arrived home. She carefully opened the door, hoping to slip in unnoticed. But her hopes were shattered when a loud voi

Harry quietly took in the aroma of the food. He tried to appear indifferent, but his ears caught every sound from the kitchen—the sizzle of the frying pan, the clatter of plates, even Arabella’s light footsteps.A few minutes later, Arabella appeared with a plate in her hands. She placed it on the dining table before turning to pour a cup of black coffee.“It’s ready,” she said softly.Harry glanced at the breakfast on the table. The pancakes looked soft, drizzled with glistening honey. Scrambled eggs sat golden and fluffy on the side of the plate.Arabella watched him closely, trying to read his reaction. But Harry simply sat down, picked up his fork, and started eating without a word. The only sound in the room was the faint clinking of his fork against the plate.Arabella sat across from him, sipping her coffee, sneaking glances at Harry. He ate calmly, occasionally taking a sip of his coffee. His silence wasn’t due to displeasure—Arabella was sure of that. In fact, there was somet

Arabella sank into the car seat, her breath still ragged after running as fast as she could from the dog chasing her. She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to calm her racing heart, which felt like it was about to leap out of her chest. But the peace didn’t last long.A deep voice disturbed her.“I didn't know you liked sneaking into other people's cars now.”A cold voice greeted her ears, making Arabella snap her eyes open and turn to the side. There, sitting casually, was a man in a neat suit, a mask covering half of his face, but his eyes were filled with mockery.“Harry?!” Her voice nearly screeched as she instinctively wanted to jump out, but then she remembered the bulldog still prowling outside.Harry raised an eyebrow, as if waiting for a reasonable explanation from Arabella. His sharp gaze pierced through her, making her even more embarrassed and awkward.Arabella wanted to dig a hole and hide. How could she have entered Harry’s car?!She swallowed hard. “I… I can explain,

Arabella had just stepped out of the elevator on the seventh floor of Anderson Corporation, carefully pushing Harry's wheelchair. The office was bustling with activity—the sound of hurried footsteps and hushed conversations filled the air. Harry appeared calm, though there was a flicker of unease in his eyes.Suddenly, from behind, a beautiful blonde woman strode quickly forward and, without hesitation, took over Harry’s wheelchair, shoving Arabella’s hands away as if she were merely an attendant. The force nearly sent Arabella stumbling.“I’ll be the one pushing him,” the woman declared firmly, treating Arabella as nothing more than an employee.Arabella was momentarily stunned but quickly realized who the woman was. Celine. Harry’s ex-fiancée. The woman who had abandoned him after he became paralyzed.Harry looked even more shocked than Arabella. His eyes widened as he saw Celine standing behind him.“Celine? What are you doing here?” His voice was heavy, a mix of shock and disbelie

The atmosphere in Anderson Corporation’s annual board meeting was tense. Shareholders, board members, and the extended Anderson family were seated around a huge, long table, with glass walls offering a panoramic view of the towering city skyline. At the head of the table was Harry in his wheelchair, his face calm despite the almost tangible hostility in the room.Across from him, his ambitious cousin Adam leaned back confidently. He had been ruthlessly sticking Harry with his arguments since the meeting began.“This firm can’t be managed by a person who is… excuse me, physically handicapped,” Adam scorned. “Since the accident, the company’s performance has really declined. Our stocks are unstable. We need someone who can be in the front lines, not just sit behind a desk.”Some of the family members nodded in concurrence. There were murmurs in the room. But nobody could contribute to the argument before an authoritative voice pierced through the air.“Some tend to overlook the fact tha

“I’m just working part-time, Grandpa. At an old friend’s place,” Arabella said, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. They were still standing in the hospital lobby after visiting Edwin, who was still lying weakly on the hospital bed.Hans raised an eyebrow. “Part-time? Where at?”Arabella offered a faint smile. “A small boutique. Belongs to a friend from school. I’m just helping out. Not every day. Just… to pass the time.”Hans nodded slowly. There was no suspicion in his eyes. “I thought you’d be more drawn to social work or education, with how you treat people. But a boutique’s nice too. A world of color and creativity, huh? Why don’t you open one of your own?”“Oh, I haven’t really thought about that, Grandpa Hans. But… that’s actually a good idea,” Arabella replied quickly, though guilt was already weighing heavy on her chest. She deliberately didn’t mention that she was actually working full-time there—designing window displays, handling sales records, even cleaning the

Arabella stood still at the doorway, her eyes fixed on the large bed in front of her. The night felt unusually warm, and a nervous, awkward tension lingered in the air. After living under the same roof with Harry for quite some time, tonight was different—they were going to sleep in the same bed.Harry, freshly changed into his sleepwear, sat on the edge of the bed, watching Arabella hesitate by the door.“Why aren’t you sitting down? Come on, let’s sleep,” he said, gesturing casually toward the bed.Arabella ran her fingers through her hair, clearly trying to avoid the situation. “I... I can sleep on the couch,” she blurted out, hoping to escape the awkward tension between them.Harry raised an eyebrow, confused, then chuckled lightly. “The couch? Suit yourself,” he replied nonchalantly, before lying down on the soft bed.Inwardly, though, Harry was cursing under his breath at Arabella’s distant attitude.“Sleep wherever you want. I don’t care,” he grumbled to himself.Arabella arche

Arabella returned to Harry’s house, fury pulsing through her veins. Yes, she was livid—at Helena. She was convinced Helena was behind the spiked wine that left their father hospitalized and unconscious. But… could Helena really be that heartless? Maybe it had something to do with the inheritance. The more she thought about it, the more disgusted Arabella became. Why do people do anything—everything—for the sake of inheritance? Her father. Her stepmother. Now even her sister? And Harry? They’re all the same. With a huff and a stomp, the raven-haired girl stepped out of the taxi and made her way toward the grand mansion—her husband’s home in name only. Her gaze landed on the carport.A soft sigh escaped her lips. “Thank God Grandpa Hans didn’t show up.”Hans had canceled his visit last minute due to a business meeting. She wasn’t in the mood to stay in Harry’s room, faking the part of a loving wife.As she was thinking about Harry’s grandfather, she spotted Mrs. Mia in the yard, directi

“I need a drink…” Helena growled under her breath, slamming the door of her elegant but eerily silent house. The sharp click of her high heels echoed against the marble floor. She had just gotten home from campus.Parched, she made a beeline for the refrigerator, reaching out for a bottle of cold water. But just as her hand touched the fridge handle, her eyes shifted—drawn to the glass cabinet filled with various types of liquor, including wine.A sly smile tugged at her lips as she opened the cabinet, searching for her bottle of wine.Bad luck. It was gone. She froze for a second, then crouched to check the lower shelves. Still nothing. She blinked, her expression shifting from confusion to suspicion. Her eyes narrowed like a hawk who'd just lost sight of its prey.“Arabella…” she hissed, her voice low but vibrating with restrained fury, a thin smile curving her lips—a smile that never reached her eyes.Slowly but purposefully, Helena ascended the stairs. She wasn't heading to her be

After leaving her father’s house, Arabella went straight to the forensic laboratory owned by her old friend, Tom—a toxicologist working at an independent research institute. They had been close during college, and now, he was one of the few people she could still trust.Tom studied the wine bottle, now wrapped in cloth, sitting on the table before him. He raised an eyebrow and glanced at Arabella with curiosity.“This wine... are you sure there’s something wrong with it?” he asked while slipping on a pair of latex gloves.“My father collapsed a few hours after drinking it. He was rushed to the hospital. I thought it was just exhaustion…” Arabella replied softly. “Please check. Whatever you find—I need to know.”Tom nodded, his expression turning serious. “I’ll treat this like a personal case. If I pull an all-nighter, you’ll get the results by tomorrow morning.”“Thank you, Tom,” Arabella said sincerely, her eyes reflecting her weariness. “I don’t know who else I can trust right now.”

After the conversation with Harry, Arabella dragged herself into her room, her steps heavy and drained of strength. She didn’t say another word to Harry, who remained in the living room, eyes fixed blankly on the television he wasn’t really watching.Without glancing back, Arabella headed straight to the bathroom. She needed time—time to breathe, to calm the storm inside her chest. Time to find a moment of peace from the heartache that had yet to fade.Warm water cascaded over her face and body, washing away both exhaustion and the tears she had held back for hours. When she stepped out, she changed into a gray T-shirt and loose pants, pulling on a jacket to brace for the chill outside. Her hair was still damp when she emerged from her room.Harry glanced at her briefly from the corner of his eye, then quickly looked away—pretending not to care. Yet, his fingers curled tighter around the armrest of his wheelchair.Arabella paused and looked at him.“I’m going to the hospital again. It

“Let me go, Mike!” Arabella’s voice cracked down the hospital hallway. She shoved his chest with all her strength, causing Mike to stumble back, nearly losing his balance. Her eyes were blazing, her breath uneven. She stared at him with a mixture of fury and disbelief. Her body still trembled from the unwanted embrace—an embrace that, unfortunately, had been witnessed by the one person who should never have misunderstood: her husband, Harry.“Are you insane?! Harry saw us! He walked away without a word!” she snapped, her voice raw with pain.Mike looked down, fists clenched. “I didn’t know he was here, Bella. I just… I saw you crying alone. I was worried.”“You always bring trouble, Mike. You shattered me once, and now you’ve made my husband think I—” Arabella bit her lip. Tears threatened to fall again, but she forced them back.“I’m sorry. I truly am,” Mike said softly. “If I could turn back time, I’d never—”“—cheat with Helena?” Arabella cut him off, her glare piercing. “You cheat

“What do you mean, Doctor? Poison?”Arabella’s voice trembled, rising almost into a shout as the words flew from her lips. Her eyes widened, locked onto the stern-faced middle-aged doctor standing in the hospital’s consultation room.“We detected a harmful substance in Mr. Edwin’s bloodstream. We can’t identify it yet, but the toxicology team is running further tests,” the doctor explained calmly.Luna shut her eyes tightly, her left hand gripping the edge of her shawl. Helena stood stiffly in the corner, arms folded, jaw clenched.Arabella turned to face them, her breath uneven. “So... Dad was poisoned? This wasn’t just a regular heart attack?”“The heart attack may have been triggered by the substance,” the doctor replied cautiously. “We’ll need to wait for the full results. In the meantime, we advise the family to remain alert.”As soon as the doctor exited, a tense silence took over the room. Arabella stood still for a moment, then turned sharply toward Luna.“Was it you?”Her acc

The sky had already turned dark when Harry finally realized Arabella hadn’t come home. A wave of irritation rose in his chest—she had broken her promise. Again. She said she wouldn’t come home late. Yet here they were.Dinner time rolled around. Still no sign of her.The dining room was painfully quiet. Harry ate alone, the clinking of silverware against his plate the only sound in the room.Jimmy, noticing the tension on his master's face, finally gathered the courage to approach.“Sir Harry, should I give Miss Arabella a call?” he asked cautiously.Harry didn’t answer. His grip on the spoon tightened, veins bulging visibly on the back of his hand.He wanted to call her. But his pride held him back. Even so, a growing unease gnawed at him. She hadn’t even sent a message. As the minutes ticked by, thunder rumbled in the distance. Rain was coming. With a frustrated sigh, Harry dropped the spoon and reached for his phone. He couldn’t take it anymore.[Bella, where are you?]His voice wa
