Chapter 2

Author: Papaya Milk
My hypoglycemia started acting up then. I hadn't eaten dinner yet since I had been working overtime. On top of that, my emotions were running high.

My head began to spin, and I felt like I was on the verge of passing out. "I… I have low blood sugar. Can you give me something to eat?" I pleaded.

The man rose to his feet the moment the words left my lips.

My body stiffened from shock before I hurriedly shrank back against the seat.

He leaned down and moved closer to me. He gripped my chin with callused fingers and forced me to look at him.

My heart raced in my chest at the sudden lack of distance between us that almost felt strangely intimate.

What was the man planning to do? Was he going to strip me of my clothes and take nude photos of me? Or was he going to dismember me?

I clenched my fists. My entire body was shaking violently, and I didn't dare breathe too loudly.

"This better not be one of your schemes," the man hissed before he released my chin.

I breathed a sigh of relief as I watched him get out of the van and walk toward the trunk. For a split second, I considered throwing the door open and making a break for it. But when I remembered how weak I was at that moment, I quickly discarded the idea.

The man unlocked my handcuffs and offered me some bread.

I greedily stuffed the bread into my mouth, assuming that the man had finally calmed down. However, just as I wanted to eat more to build up my strength, the man snatched the bread out of my hands.

He grabbed my hair in the next second and glared at me. "I treated you so well and granted your every wish. Why did you toy with my feelings and swindled me out of my money?"

Pain shot through my scalp. I began to insincerely plead with the man again, making sure to make my voice sound as choked up as possible.

"I'm sorry! I only made those mistakes because I was immature and stupid. I'll never do it again. I swear!"

The man finally calmed down and sank into the seat across from me.

I relaxed a little, but sweat continued to pour down my back.

"He kept talking about taking revenge, but his plans completely fell apart when he came face-to-face with her. He's totally a hopeless romantic."

"She knows what she's doing. She managed to talk him into calming down. I bet he cherished her like a priceless treasure before she brought up wanting a divorce. This is true love!"

The comments continued to fan the flames of the situation.

However, I only felt wronged for suddenly getting caught up in this mess, especially since I didn't even know who the man was.

"You keep saying that you love me, but do you actually understand me? Why don't you take a closer look?"

The man looked up at me, his eyes flashing stubbornly and coldly.

"Alicia Sinclair, the only daughter of the Sinclair family. I saw you for the first time in an alley when I was ten years old. I've never forgotten about you ever since. Your waist and hip measurements are 24 inches and 35 inches, respectively. Your star sign is Cancer, and you love eating sweet and sour ribs.

"You hate cilantro, and you're scared of the dark and spiders. You always drink hot chocolate when you're on your period, and you like to prop your foot against the wall when you're sleeping."

I was completely dumbfounded by the man's detailed descriptions.

"This guy must be crazy about her! He watched over her for 15 years!"

"He knows every little thing about her. Let's see how this gold-digger is going to talk her way out of this situation now!"

My head spun as the comments continued to zoom past.

"I don't even remember some of the things you mentioned…"

Had I been transmigrated into another world? Or did another woman with the same name as me get involved with the man?

But why did this other woman drag my name through the mud? Her actions even caused me to be labeled as a gold-digger.

I had just settled down after returning to the country when someone began incessantly ringing my doorbell. When I looked through the peephole, I realized that it was my father, who I hadn't spoken to in many years, Harold Sinclair.Ever since he divorced Mom, Harold had completely ignored both of us. He had never shown even a shred of care toward me, which was why I had no doubt that he had shown up on my doorstep for Isabelle's sake. The moment I opened the door, he scrutinized me with a frown and said, "I know that you're still angry with me, but Isabelle is still your sister. You should be more tolerant toward her. She told me that you're constantly targeting her. How could you be so cruel?"I scoffed as I leaned against the doorframe. "My sister? Why didn't she consider the fact that we're sisters when she took credit for saving James, got plastic surgery to look like me to trick Frank into marrying her and giving her money, and ruined my project?""She's still young. It's per

I wasn't going to allow the truth to remain buried, so I stopped by James' office and stubbornly insisted on seeing him.His secretary stopped me from barging into his office several times, but I was able to intercept him in the hall right after he finished a meeting."I have something important to tell you, Mr. Graham. The person who saved you from drowning in the river two years ago was me, not Isabelle! Not only did she take the credit for what I did, but she also had plastic surgery to look like me."She impersonated me and tricked someone into marrying her and giving her money. Now, she's slandering me and trying to ruin the projects that I'm working on!""What nonsense are you spouting? Isabelle is nothing like that. Stop spouting nonsense and causing trouble."My words seemed to fall on deaf ears, no matter how I tried to explain myself to James. In the end, he called the security and had me escorted out of the building."I'll report you to the police if you continue bothe

The next day, I jolted awake from my phone's piercing ringtone. The important project that I was leading had just entered its final stages when a court summons suddenly disrupted all my plans.Someone had filed a lawsuit against me for stealing trade secrets. Before I could even react to the lawsuit, a set of photos of "me" being intimate with an unfamiliar man was leaked online. The photos were shared by hundreds of public accounts within the span of an hour with captions that were clearly meant to slander me."A gold-digger known as Ms. S toyed with Frank Lambert's feelings. She feels incredibly remorseful over her actions."As I stared at the photos, I knew that Isabelle was the one behind them. She looked identical to me, so she could easily drag my name through the mud to leave my reputation in shambles. The backlash from the public was swift and ruthless. My car was vandalized. Red paint was splattered all across my apartment door. People pointed at me and whispered among

Frank was still pressing the dagger against my neck.Just as I was thinking about how to explain the situation to him, his eyes suddenly turned red.My heart skipped a beat. A bold idea suddenly floated to the forefront of my thoughts. Perhaps Frank could see the comments too.The dagger slipped from Frank's hand as he sank to his knees in front of me. "I'm sorry… I nearly hurt you, my beloved. I was a fool for letting her pull the wool over my eyes. I nearly killed you because of my own stupidity.""You didn't do anything wrong," I replied. "The one at fault here is Isabelle! She got plastic surgery to look like me and impersonated me to trick you into marrying her and giving her your money. She's the one who had us dancing on the palm of her hand.""You can leave now," he said. "I'll report this to the police and let them handle the rest. I'll definitely seek justice for you. I won't let Isabelle get away with this!""Getting the police involved wouldn't be good for you since y

The man suddenly pulled out a dagger and pressed it against my neck. The blade was seconds away from sinking into my flesh when another red comment flashed across my vision."I remember now! Isabelle was boasting about getting plastic surgery to look just like her best friend, Alicia Sinclair, during a party abroad. She mentioned that since she looked identical to Alicia, she would definitely be able to catch the attention of Frank Lambert, who was secretly nursing a crush on Alicia."Isabelle had always been incredibly jealous of Alicia. Eventually, that jealousy morphed into hatred, and she began scheming against her. She distanced herself from Alicia, claiming that she needed to travel abroad for treatment. In reality, she got plastic surgery to look just like Alicia."They already looked rather similar to each other. After going under the knife, Isabelle made herself look even more like Alicia with the help of makeup. She then began to deceive Frank."Frank didn't suspect a th
