Chapter 2

Author: Snail
I returned to my bedroom feeling hollow and defeated. It was nothing more than a cramped space at the end of the second floor—right next to Damien’s.

I could still hear his voice in my head.

“The size of the room doesn’t matter. What matters is that you’re close to me! This is just temporary. Once I finish renovating the wedding room, we’ll get married.”

Eight years had passed, and now the wedding room he’d once prepared so carefully no longer belonged to me.

I opened my suitcase, ready to pack my clothes, when the door suddenly burst open with a loud crash.

Vivian strutted in, her belly prominent, chin lifted as she scanned the room with disdain.

“So this is your bedroom? It’s even smaller than the bathroom in my suite. How pathetic. You’ve clung to my husband for eight years and still have no title. He even gave me the wedding room he promised you. What are you still hanging around for? Don’t you feel ashamed?”

Her voice dripped with mockery and triumph.

I shut the suitcase with a hard snap. My tone was ice-cold.

“You’re not welcome here. Get out.”

Vivian raised a brow, her voice laced with scorn.

“Did you forget? I’m the mistress of this villa now. Who are you to tell me to leave? Soon, my child will be the heir to the Jones family. You’re nothing but a shameless mistress. You’ll end up with nothing!”

My fists clenched at my sides, nails digging into my palms. Tears burned behind my eyes.

Each word hit like a slap across the face, leaving my cheeks flaming with humiliation.

I was about to reply when she suddenly staggered, letting out a sharp cry as she crumpled to the floor, clutching her belly.

“Help! My baby…”

Damien came rushing in, panic etched into every line of his face. He swept her into his arms.

Vivian wrapped her arms around his neck, sobbing pitifully.

“I just… I just wanted to talk to Estelle. I-I must’ve said something wrong and upset her. I’m sorry… It’s all my fault…”

Damien’s eyes snapped to me, blazing with fury and bitter disappointment.

“Estelle, no matter what she said, you shouldn’t have touched her. She’s pregnant! How could you do this? You used to be kind. What have you become?”

His words froze my blood.

“I didn’t! I didn’t push her!”

Damien exploded.

“Still denying it?

“You and Vivian were the only ones here. If it wasn’t you, who was it? Do you think I’d believe she fell on her own? She treasures that baby more than her own life!”

I collapsed onto the bed, trembling, lips quivering.

“So… you don’t believe me…”

“How am I supposed to believe you?”

He yanked me off the bed and gently laid Vivian in my place, immediately pulling out his phone to call the family doctor.

“You better pray she and the baby are okay!”

The doctor arrived quickly and examined Vivian thoroughly.

“The situation isn’t too serious. She just needs to stay in bed and rest for a few days.”

Damien hung on to every word, bombarding the doctor with questions about her diet, recovery, and even light pregnancy exercises.

He scribbled everything down in a notebook, desperate not to miss a single detail.

When the doctor finally left, Damien personally walked him out of the house.

As soon as he was gone, Vivian reclined on the bed, glancing at me where I stood frozen in the corner.

With a satisfied smirk, she said, “Damien’s going to be such a good father, don’t you think?”

Then, almost as if speaking to herself, she added.

“It was worth drugging him to make him the father of my child.”

I turned on her in a flash, pointing at her stomach, my voice shaking with rage.

“What did you just say?! Are you telling me that baby isn’t even Damien’s? That you drugged him?! Y-You’re insane! How dare you?!”

Vivian clapped a hand over her mouth, realizing she’d let the truth slip, but the smirk returned just as quickly.

“What difference does it make that you know? Nothing’s going to change. Do yourself a favor… and walk away.”

“Damien, love is like a mirror. Once it’s shattered, it’s shattered. No matter how you try to piece it back together, no matter what compensation you offer, the cracks will never disappear.”I looked him in the eye. My voice was cold, resolute.“Leave. Julian and I are getting married. Please don’t come back to disturb us again.”“Married?”It was as if Damien had been plunged into an icy abyss. The chill sank into his bones and turned his insides to stone.“Y-You’re getting married?”He stepped forward and grabbed my wrist, his grip so tight it felt like he might crush it.I winced but held my ground, teeth clenched.“Yes. We’re getting married. Don’t come back into my life again.”“No! I won’t allow it! Estelle, I know I was wrong. Give me one more chance. I swear I won’t hurt you again. I’ll become the man I used to be—the Damien who loved you, and only you!”He yanked hard, trying to pull me into his arms.Suddenly, Julian appeared. He seized Damien’s wrist and twisted i

I moved out of my little apartment above the café and into Julian’s home. His place wasn’t far, just a ten-minute walk from the shop. Each morning, I strolled to the café to open up, and every evening, Julian came to walk me home. We’d stop at the grocery store together, picking up ingredients for dinner and little things for the house. Life had become simple, peaceful, and warm.Back when I was with Damien, it had felt like I was suffocating. He was the head of the Jones family—a powerful mafia clan weighed down by generations of responsibility. The burden of that world pressed on me every single day.All I had ever wanted was to own a little café and live quietly with someone who loved me.When I fell in love with Damien, I gave it all up. I reshaped my entire life around him. I became softer, more tolerant. I learned to stand quietly behind him. That evening, Julian and I were walking hand in hand through the supermarket, chatting about what to cook for dinner. Now and then, he

It had been two weeks since I arrived in Aquinox.I’d settled down in a quiet little town, where the air was fresh and life moved at a calm, unhurried pace. It was just the way I liked it.I rented a small shop and opened a cozy café of my own. I was busy with work every day, and I hardly thought of Damien anymore.Damien, Vivian, and their child must be living happily now.Still, every time their faces flashed across my mind, the heart I thought had long gone numb ached faintly.Just then, a man walked into the café holding an adorable kitten in his arms.“Excuse me, is this your cat? I found it wandering outside your door. It almost ran off.”The kitten let out a soft purr, and I couldn’t resist stroking its fluffy little ears.“No, it’s not mine.”“Then it must be lost, or maybe it’s a stray.”The man replied with a gentle sigh, then asked hesitantly,“Do you like cats? Would you consider adopting it?”Something deep inside me stirred at his words.Perhaps having such a

When Damien’s cold, stormy figure appeared at the door of the private room, only one thought flashed through Vivian’s mind: ‘It’s over!’Landon stumbled back onto the couch in fright. The Gray family might have had Mafia ties too, but they were nothing more than a minor house beneath the Jones family. They didn’t stand a chance against the Joneses.Damien stepped inside with calm, measured steps. Landon jumped to his feet and immediately gave up his seat.“Talk. What the hell is going on here?”Damien’s voice was dangerously calm as he sat down.“Mr. Jones, have some tea first. Cool down a bit!”Landon forced a smile and handed him a cup of tea.“This has nothing to do with me, I swear! Sure, I was involved with Vivian, but you have no idea how wild that woman is. You can’t blame me! When she got pregnant, I even gave her two million to handle it. Who knew she’d keep scheming like this? She played both sides. I’m a victim too!”“You’re saying Vivian legally married me but kept

Vivian finally snapped, shouting at the top of her lungs. She was sick and tired of everyone tying her to the memory of the dead Aaron. It was as though he had been her only boyfriend back then.Damien yanked his hand free from hers. He spat out each word one by one.“Your happiness will never be with me. The only woman I’ve ever loved is Estelle—from the beginning to the end. The only reason I married you was because of Aaron. The Jones family can acknowledge this child, but the position of Mrs. Jones—the wife of the family head—will always belong to Estelle!”Without another glance, he turned and stormed out of the hospital room, driving away in a rush.He did not see the flash of cold hatred in Vivian’s eyes as he left, nor did he hear her mutter under her breath.“You’re the one who drove Estelle away. And now you’re pretending to be some devoted lover? Pathetic.”Her lips curled into a cruel smile as she pulled out her phone and dialed a number.“Mr. Zane, it’s been a while

Racing home at breakneck speed, Damien ran five red lights. He refused to believe what the butler said. ‘She was fine yesterday. Why would she suddenly leave?‘It was impossible!’The moment he flung open the door to my bedroom, his heart plunged. The room was empty. Not a single trace of me remained, not even my personal belongings. Everything was gone.“Estelle! Estelle!”Panic surged through him. His voice cracked as he called my name again and again. He tore through the entire villa, flinging open every closet and every drawer, desperate to find some sign that I hadn't left. There was nothing. What crushed him even more was seeing the gifts he had given me over the years all left behind. Neatly packed away in boxes. Untouched.“Estelle… Have you given up on me?”Then his eyes landed on the wall that had once been covered in photos of us together. Now it was bare.Damien sank to his knees in despair, combing through every corner of the room, searching for anything of m
