Chapter 3

Penulis: Liora Z
Brynn gripped Cassia's arm like a vise.

"Lady Cassia! Please give the Griffon to Aiden! He's been poisoned with Hydra venom! He's dying!"

"Impossible." Cassia frowned deeply. "The Griffon only fits two. I have to get Adonis back to HQ first. It's too dangerous for him here. Besides, the High Priest said he was stable. He's out of danger."

"Danger?!" Brynn roared in despair. "Aiden has barely got a breath left in him! He is your husband!"

Seeing this, Adonis immediately shrank behind Cassia.

"Cassia, Aiden is just jealous. He doesn't want you to leave with me. You should take him. Leave me here. Even if the monsters eat me, I'll accept it..."

It was a pathetic lie, but it struck Cassia's blind spot perfectly.

"Enough, Brynn." Cassia sneered from her high horse. "I saw him receive the healing magic with my own eyes. He's perfectly stable. You'd tell such a massive lie just to help him win my favor?"

"A lie?! Are you blind!" Brynn roared, breaking down.

Bang! Cassia unleashed her divine aura, crushing Brynn to his knees.

"I don't have time for his tantrums!" Her face was a mask of ice as she glided toward my stretcher.

The venom had paralyzed my vocal cords. All I could do was stare with unfocused eyes at the woman I had loved for years.

Despair froze my heart, inch by inch.

Cassia leaned in. Her warm breath brushed my ear.

"Aiden, be reasonable. This jealousy is beneath you."

But Cassia, I wasn't jealous.

I was really dying.

Lying on the stretcher, I was in too much pain to speak. I felt the energy draining from my body. My mind was blurring.

"Give me six hours." She reached out, trying to stroke my festering cheek. "I swear, this is the last time. After this, it's just you and me."

I found one last ounce of strength. Just enough to turn my head and avoid her touch.

Her hand froze in mid-air. A flash of hurt and impatience crossed her face.

"Don't throw a fit with me. When this is over," she said, like handing out charity, "I'll take you to see the moonlight in the Silverleaf Forest. You've always wanted to go, right?"

I closed my eyes. I refused to look at her again.

Cassia bit her lip, scoffed coldly, and turned around. She pulled Adonis up and mounted the Griffon without looking back.

Giant wings blocked out the sky.

Lying on the freezing stretcher, I watched her take the enemy who stole everything from me and disappear into the clouds.

In that moment, watching her fly away with him, the last ember of my love for her turned to ash.

"Aiden! Hold on!" Brynn threw himself beside me, tears smashing onto the ground. "You can't die!"

I couldn't hold on.

The Hydra venom had already burned right through my heart.

Shaking, I used my ultimate strength to pull two things from my pocket and shove them into Brynn's hand.

A memory crystal. And an obsidian ring. The wedding ring I carved myself after taking that fatal strike for her.

"Take this crystal... to the Council..." I choked out black blood with every breath. "It has Adonis's confession. Don't let that bastard... steal our squad's glory."

Brynn gripped the crystal tight, sobbing violently. "I swear it! But you have to live and do it yourself!"

"Too late..." I gave a tragic smile, my eyes shifting to the ring. "Give this... to Cassia."

Staring at the gray sky, I gathered the strength of my very soul to leave my final words.

"Tell her... we are even. And tell her I will never forgive her. Not in this life. Not in the next. Not for all eternity."

"Brother!!"

"Burn my body." My voice grew fainter, ready to scatter in the wind. "Scatter the ashes. Don't leave them for her... The thought of it sickens me."

With my last word, my eyes shut completely.

The pain faded. I was finally free.

Cassia's POV

A thousand miles away, in a side hall of Mount Olympus.

I stood before the communication array. Adonis stood obediently behind me.

"My Lord Divine Official," I said with absolute, proud certainty. "The hero who slayed the Minotaur... was the chosen one, Adonis."

Adonis tugged at my sleeve, playing innocent. "Will Aiden hate me even more for this?"

"Ignore him." I pushed down a sudden, inexplicable panic in my chest and spoke coldly. "His injuries were stable ages ago. He actually played dead just to fight for my attention. Think of this glory as his compensation for terrifying you. Once this is done, I'll go apologize to him."

Across the array, the official picked up the Quill of Fate, ready to record the deed.

In that very second, the Oracle scroll at my waist broke free from its bindings and flew into the air.

Divine laws condensed into glaring, blood-red words:

[ORACLE MAXIMUM ALERT]

[THE CHILD OF PROPHECY, AIDEN, HAS FALLEN.]

[FATE HAS CHOSEN A NEW FAVORITE: ADONIS.]

My mind went entirely blank.

Smack. The Oracle scroll slipped from my hands and hit the floor.

When I opened my eyes again, I was lying in a temple on Mount Olympus.A warm, holy golden light covered me."It worked! It worked!" Hermes clapped excitedly. The gods behind him cheered. "Aiden, you saved the world from collapsing!"I sat up. My soul felt complete and full again."You've been through a lot, kid," Hermes walked up to me kindly. "As a reward, we're giving you a new life. Who do you want to be?"He waved his hand, and glowing options floated in the air."Olympian law says you can't be Aiden anymore," Hermes explained. "But you can choose any life you want."I looked at the tempting choices:A wealthy young lord in Athens, living in absolute luxury.A champion gladiator in Sparta, famous and admired by all.A brilliant poet in Thebes, leaving a legacy for centuries.Or a merchant, an officer, a noble...Every option meant wealth, power, and a fresh start. But my eyes landed on the most unremarkable choice of all:Argos Enclave Trainee — Cole."Are you sure?" Hermes looked

"I'm going to throw him into the sulfur lakes of Tartarus! I'll pay for your life with his soul!"Cassia screamed and rushed toward Adonis."Stop."I floated in front of her. My translucent body blocked her way.Cassia dropped her hands in defeat."Why..." She looked up, her beautiful face covered in blood and tears. "Aiden, I can't live without you... Even breathing hurts..."Seeing her cry like her heart was ripped out, I thought I'd soften up like I always did.But I touched my ghost chest. It was empty. Not a single ripple of heartache.I really, truly didn't love her anymore."Wake up, Cassia," I said. "This devoted act of yours makes me sick."Cassia flinched. She looked at me in disbelief."If you really loved me," I pointed at the half-dead priests, tearing off her mask. "You wouldn't have ordered them to use dark magic to ruin my dignity as a man!""If you really loved me, you wouldn't have watched me get skinned alive in hell just to protect another man!""If you really loved

Aiden’s POVI thought death meant peace. I thought it was just nothingness. But I woke up in a pure white temple on Olympus.I felt weightless. I looked down. I was a translucent soul."Aiden! Thank the gods you're awake!"Hermes, the messenger god, was sweating bullets. He rushed over like I was his savior.I looked at him coldly. I didn't say a word.I was dead. My ashes were scattered.I didn't care what game Olympus was playing now."Listen, I'll make it quick!" Hermes talked a mile a minute. "Your wife Cassia lost it! She's gone crazy! She's destroying the world!""Oh." I replied flatly. "Good for her."Hermes choked on my indifference."Did you not hear me?! She locked the new destiny's favorite, Adonis, in a basement and tortures him every day. She's on a killing spree!"Hermes pulled at his hair in a panic. "She's using the dark magic marks from that curse-transfer ritual to mess with the Fates' loom! She's dragging out every dark priest who helped her and slaughtering them as

Cassia’s POVI collapsed on the cold stone floor. My vision went dark.My nails were bloody from clawing at the ground.I don't know how long it took for the soul-crushing pain to fade.I trembled as I stood up. I clutched the bloody obsidian ring so hard it cut my palm."Lady Hecate..." A twisted madness sparked in my hollow eyes. "If I sacrifice Adonis... If I return his fated luck and send him to his death... will Aiden come back?"The goddess was silent for a long time. Her voice sounded tired and cold."It's too late. Once the threads of fate break and reweave, there is no going back. Aiden's soul is gone. He is never coming back."Never coming back.I threw my head back and let out a miserable, crazy laugh. My Aiden was never coming back.So why should the man who killed him get to step on his bones and enjoy his stolen glory?!I fought through the lingering pain and ripped open a portal.I teleported straight back to the side hall of the Olympian temple.Adonis was standing by t

In the projection, Aiden—my husband—lay lifeless on the bed.Adonis, the man hiding behind me, slapped him hard across the face."Stop pretending to be asleep, trash," Adonis sneered, looking vicious. "How does it feel losing your lower half?""Cassia brought me here to replace you. Your squad's glory? It's mine now.""Save your breath."Then, Adonis jammed a syringe of dark green Hydra venom straight into Aiden's vein!"No..." I covered my mouth, shaking violently. The tears wouldn't stop.I had actually believed Adonis's innocent act. I left them alone together!"This is just the beginning," Brynn sneered. He threw something bloody right at my face.An obsidian ring hit the stone floor. Clink. The sound was sharp. Deafening.I froze. It was a wedding ring carved from a meteorite.Years ago, Aiden almost died taking a magic strike for me. He carved this ring in his sickbed. He said the iron was as unbreakable as his vow to never abandon me.But now, he gave it back.So Aiden really di

Cassia’s POV"Impossible..."My hands shook. I read the prophecy again. And again."Lady Hecate!" I screamed through the communion bond, my voice cracking. "The prophecy is wrong, isn't it? Aiden's soul is so strong! How could he just... die?"Through the array, Hecate’s voice was ice-cold."The prophecy is never wrong, Cassia. Aiden is dead.""How..." My legs gave out. I hit the floor. It felt like an invisible hand was crushing my chest. I couldn't breathe."Because of your own stupidity and cruelty!" Hecate’s voice sliced through my denial. "You let your feelings blind you. You forced most of your divine protection onto Adonis. You even ordered dark magic to strip Aiden of his manhood and his very power!""No... I did it to...""Shut up!" Hecate snapped. "Your dark magic destroyed his life force. It snuffed out his destiny! You personally cut off his fated gifts and pushed him into a dead end!"No. That wasn't true!I shook my head frantically. I only wanted to save Adonis. I never
