Chapter 326

Author: River Fish
There was a flash of white in Evan's head; he felt like something was about to burst. His gaze hardened into a deadly stare as he fixed it on Simon. He forced out, "You're messing with me, right?"

Simon laughed like he'd heard the joke of the year. "Messing with you? Why the hell would I? Connor's just a loser now that he and Phoebe are divorced. What's he worth now? Even if Phoebe dates ten losers, he'd still come in dead last!"

Evan clenched his fists tightly.

"There's a saying—don't worry about an ex who can't move on. Worry if the new one's good enough." Simon smacked his lips. "Next to Gideon, Connor's always going to be inferior."

Evan was usually quick with words, but right now, he had nothing. He couldn't process this discovery at all—Gideon liked Phoebe!

If Simon was bold enough to say it, then Gideon's feelings for Phoebe had to be far from ordinary—so far that even Simon dared to joke about them.

Simon noticed something off with Evan and looked at him like he was insan

In just this short time together, all the headaches Connor had caused faded completely from Phoebe's mind. She was fully immersed in the simple happiness of the moment. She stepped in to smooth things over. "Alexandra, just take the food."Truth be told, watching Alexandra and Simon bicker actually made her pretty happy, even if she felt a little bad for Alexandra. It was a tiny twinge of guilt, at least.Simon chimed in, "Yeah, it's just some food. Don't fuss over it."He held the plate out to her and urged, "Come on, I washed my hands before dinner. Don't turn me down."Alexandra rolled her eyes but still took the plate. Naturally, it was only because Phoebe was watching.Phoebe was satisfied. Simon really had helped out that night, so she turned to him and said, "Sometimes you're kind of a handful, but other times you feel like the sun—warm, full of energy, and always so passionate."Even a stagnant life would ripple because of him.Her sudden compliment caught Simon complet

Gideon narrowed his eyes. How could this be the same thing? The plate of food that was supposed to be his had been snatched away.Alexandra was equally pissed. Did she look happy about this? That plate of food was the one Phoebe had gotten for her!Simon picked up his untouched plate, piled food on it, and handed it to Alexandra. "There. This one's yours."She and Phoebe were both rendered speechless. At the same time, Phoebe felt like she'd just watched a skit. She also realized that Simon was a total drama queen. It was just food. Why did he have to make it so complicated?Alexandra was an expert at socializing, so she naturally knew how to read the room. Simon clearly wasn't thrilled that Phoebe had served her, so he'd gone out of his way to make sure that he could do it instead.Alexandra wasn't arrogant enough to assume Simon was interested in her, but his actions were pretty blatant. Even with the detour, his intentions were obvious. The night they'd unexpectedly slept tog

Simon muttered, "How stingy."He was just messing around, of course. He wasn't actually mad, and he definitely wasn't about to haul the food back to his place. Still, he eyed the plate for a second, pulled out his phone, and snapped a quick photo. He quietly noted the brand.Phoebe pulled out all the chairs. "Come on, everyone. Let's sit down for the meal."Gideon naturally took the seat right next to her.Normally, Simon liked sitting beside him, but that night he chose the spot directly across from him.The table was a vintage round one. There were five of them, so Alexandra was left with only two options. Both meant sitting next to Simon, and neither sounded appealing. She shot Simon a look. He talked and acted like a total nuisance, but in all seriousness, he was really good-looking. In the candlelight, he had a decadent, player-like vibe that was ridiculously charming. It was unfortunate that he had a mouth on him. If he just kept quiet, his appeal would probably double.Of

Simon wandered around the first-floor living room, poking into every corner as if he wanted to memorize the layout. Now and then, he would snap a photo, claiming that he was simply gathering home decor inspiration. He'd just moved into his new place, so it still didn't feel like a real home yet.Alexandra pulled out some scented candles she'd been saving for ages. She lit them and set them on the vintage dining table, then grabbed taper candles. She placed them in elegant holders in the center of the table and lit them. The flickering candlelight instantly made everything feel warm and cozy. Her house was full of fresh flowers and plants. She grabbed a pair of scissors and quickly arranged a gorgeous floral centerpiece, popping it into a sleek, modern vase and setting it in one corner of the table. Finally, she laid out five sets of cutlery and plates. Under each white napkin, she tucked a tiny sprig of greenery. The crisp white and green looked stunning together. With just those

Simon turned back around and looked at Alexandra with eager eyes. "I didn't know you were so warm and welcoming, Ms. Cooper. I live right next door, so if I drop by unannounced, will you treat me as enthusiastically as you do Gideon?"Alexandra gnashed her teeth. She really wanted to smack him across the face, damn it. He had zero shame whatsoever! It was the first time Phoebe had seen Alexandra so completely stumped. She stared blankly at her and Simon for a second before stepping in and stopping him from taking things further."You're the one who loves parties and excitement. We're all together tonight, and Alexandra's breaking out the good wine. Why don't you grab some snacks or something?" She had to give him a task, or all that restless energy would just keep going into teasing Alexandra.Simon was amused to hear that. "Since when have you gotten into bossing me around, Phoebe?""We're all usually so busy and rarely get to hang out like this," she said. "I'm making good on wh

Just then, Gideon's voice cut through. "Come on in."Alexandra thought she was hearing things. Her head snapped up, and her jaw dropped when she saw who it was."Holy crap! Why is the invincible, untouchable Gideon in my house?" she thought. She panicked a little. "Phoebe, why didn't you tell me sooner?"If she'd known, she wouldn't have lingered in the garden for so long. She would have rushed inside to play hostess!"I was just about to." Phoebe glanced at Gideon. Maybe because others were around, the memory of him hugging her and holding her hand suddenly flashed through her mind. She felt a little embarrassed. After all, she had invited Gideon to move in with her, but she hadn't prepared herself to explain it to Alexandra. She instinctively scooted closer to Alexandra, feeling diffident.Gideon's gaze drifted casually over their joined hands, then just as casually moved away. His face remained as cool and impassive as ever.Alexandra felt a chill from his presence for a sec
