Maximus’s words left me completely confused. My voice shook as I tried to reach out to him.

“Max…” It was all I could say, just one word filled with many questions. “Why?”

He gritted his teeth, his jaw tight like he was holding something back.

The space between us felt heavier by the second. I couldn’t wrap my head around what had gone so wrong. I tried again, my voice quieter this time, almost pleading.

“Max, please… talk to me.” I reached for his arm, resting on the table, but he recoiled as if my touch burned him.

Maximus suddenly stood up without even looking at me, marking the end of whatever that conversation was. He walked off, leaving me alone at the table.

Dinner had been a disaster. I barely touched my food. Soon after, I heard movement upstairs. Two helpers arrived, saying little as they began packing his things quietly. They moved everything to another room, one that Maximus had personally pointed out.

Why was he doing this? What had I done to deserve such cold rej

It’s not because I’m concerned about Kyros that I’m interested in what I heard. My lips parted slightly, my thoughts still catching up, as Gianna eyed me with concern. “Okay… uh, I’ll inform his family,” The words tumbled out awkwardly as I finished my conversation with Dr. Smith. “Did something happen?” Gianna asked gently. I nodded, swallowing the lump in my throat. “Kyros was in the hospital…” I explained everything—how he’d been rushed to the emergency room, how he was now fighting for his life. Gianna’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Does anyone else find this whole situation suspicious and insane?” I said, running my fingers through my hair. Just then, I noticed Lucas standing stiffly in the doorway, his face like a storm cloud. “Why didn’t you tell me you needed money?” he snapped, eyes locked on Maximus’s assistant. Maximus’s assistant froze, then looked down, clearly trying to avoid his gaze. Her shoulders tensed like she was bracing for something. Without a word, Luc

“Emma?” I asked, referring to Maximus’s assistant—the one who’s always by his side. “Between the two, Emma’s the one with direct access to Maximus. That makes her our main suspect,” Ivan replied. “Does Maximus know what’s going on?” I asked. But what was the point in asking? These men are his friends. Of course, they’ve spoken to my husband already. “Yes. Lucas was there,” Dante confirmed. “I need to understand this for myself. Can you send me to Max’s office?” I asked. Ivan offered a slight shrug, a silent gesture of permission. “You think Emma didn’t do it to Maximus?” Dante asked, studying me. I shook my head, struggling to make sense of everything. “It doesn’t add up. I’ve known Emma for months—she’s always the one who reaches out to me whenever Max’s mood shifts or when something feels off with him. She might be within reach for him, but she doesn’t have a reason to hurt him. “What would she possibly gain by hurting or killing him? That’s what I’m trying to figure out. A

Maximus Darkness... cries... all the things I’d rather forget—those are what haunt me now. It’s not the attempted assault that replays in my head, but Gazelle’s pregnancy. Ivan searching for answers, so this is what consumes me. I shut my eyes tight, trying to shake off what happened earlier. When Gazelle reached for my hand, I couldn’t stop shaking. It wasn’t fear for me—it was fear for her. I’m scared I’ll hurt her... or the tiny life growing inside her. I was an absolute asshole for how I reacted, telling her the baby shouldn’t live. If only she knew how much it tore me apart even to say that. But what else could I do? Everything about this situation is a mess. I’m so fucked up. Dante was staring at me intently. I knew he sensed my fractured thoughts and noticed my cold distance from Gazelle. “Max, don’t you want the baby?” he asked, searching for the truth. My lips pressed into a tight line. Of course not. I couldn’t shake the overwhelming urge to hold Gazelle when I

“What’s going on?” Gianna asked, walking up to me at the back of the car. She stopped when she saw I was frozen in place. “Damn it, Gianna—the books… I mean, the box. It’s gone!” My voice cracked with panic, hands trembling as I gestured at the empty trunk. “What? How?!” “Shit!” I snapped, fists clenched, fighting the urge to punch the car in frustration. My whole body shook. “You need to calm down,” she said firmly, her eyes assessing my agitated state. She crouched beside the trunk, inspecting it. “Unfortunately, it appears someone’s been watching us, Dr. Sinclair. The door’s been tampered with. They forced the door open.” I peered inside the car despite the chaotic thoughts already overwhelming my mind. “What am I supposed to do now? Maximus’ information was there, Gianna... the tapes, details about his mother, all the files my mom worked so desperately to conceal. If someone finds out what’s in them, this could blow up in a terrible way.” “We don’t know yet what’s in Presi

While Dante and Ivan were deep in conversation at the clinic, a nurse knocked on the door to inform us that my husband had regained consciousness. My heart jumped as Dante and I exchanged a panicked glance before hurrying down the sterile hallway toward Maximus’s room. When we walked in, Maximus’s bed was propped up at an angle, and he was rubbing his temple in slow, small circles. His usually sharp eyes looked dazed as he stared blankly at the ceiling. He was clearly out of it—a pretty normal reaction when someone’s blood sugar drops that low. His brain was probably still trying to catch up after being starved of glucose. “Babe, are you alright?” I asked, my voice trembling with anxiety. I needed to hear him speak. I needed to believe that everything between us was still intact. His eyes shifted toward me. “Gazelle…” he murmured my name, his voice weak. His gray eyes shimmered with a swirl of emotions I couldn’t thoroughly read. I told myself he was probably just out of it fro

My mind was in chaos; I didn’t know where to begin. I felt so heavy as I looked at Maximus lying in the hospital bed, an oxygen mask covering his face. He still wasn’t out of danger. I took his hand and pressed it to my lips, tears streaming down my cheeks. “Max, I’m so sorry…” I whispered, my voice breaking, my chest tightening. He had so much unresolved trauma from his past, things that still haunted him. That’s why I started my own investigation, hoping to protect him and avoid setting off any of his triggers. “I just want you to understand me,” I whispered, longing to explain when he could hear me. “Please accept my situation...” I had no idea how he managed to process his own trauma while trying to grasp the reality about the pregnancy. When I stepped out of the room, Frederick looked deeply unsettled, his face etched with guilt. “Ma’am, if you hadn’t come to the office... I don’t know what would have happened to President Ferrero. I-I’m truly sorry.” He was right. If

Gazelle My phone’s ringtone blared. I thought it was Maximus, but my heart dropped when I saw Dante’s name flash on the screen. “Hello?” I answered quickly. “Gazelle,” Dante’s voice was tight with urgency. “Maximus is having an episode right now—and it’s bad... really bad!” A cold wave of dread washed over me. “What happened?” Dante took a deep breath before continuing. “He found out about your pregnancy. I don’t know how, but he discovered. I’m on my way to his office in Bryston City.” “What?” I gasped, stunned. My mind raced frantically. How could he have discovered my pregnancy? I turned off the stove and rushed to Gianna’s room, knocking hard. I needed to be with my husband. When she opened the door, our eyes met. The worry on my face must’ve said it all. “What happened?” she asked, her voice low and tense. “Maximus...” I said simply. “Gianna, we need to go to his office right away. It’s serious.” Without hesitation, she nodded and followed me out of the villa. While

Maximus “Sir, the chairman has requested your presence again,” Emma informed me as she placed a document on my desk. “Did something happen?” I asked, glancing up from my work. The request was puzzling. I had just been in the chairman’s office less than an hour ago, and our meeting had ended with no hint that there was anything else to discuss. “From what I heard through his assistant, Madam and Kyros arrived a few minutes ago.” I frowned, understanding immediately. This was probably about Kyros’ mother again. She had been stirring up trouble as always, especially when it came to my wife. It would’ve already been settled in the earlier meeting if it were about a business matter. Before leaving, I organized my pending files and gave clear instructions to my two assistants regarding the quarterly reports. I also mentioned Gazelle’s birthday next week; it would be our first time celebrating it together. When I entered the chairman’s office, Kyros’ cold gaze fixed on me immediately.
