Chapter 3

Author: Anonymous
Petrified, Kaden was quick to examine Seraphina. "What's wrong, Sera?"

Seraphina retched violently and took a long time to gather herself. She couldn't wrap her head around the matter.

Why would her Alpha, who once vowed his commitment to her before the Moon Goddess, betray their mate bond?

Surely, the wrath of the Moon Goddess meant something to him. Maybe Kaden believed his efforts and power were enough to keep the affair under wraps.

The evening breeze cleared Seraphina's head.

Kaden asked, "Are you alright, Sera? If you're unwell, I'll take you to the pack's healer right now."

"I'm fine. I might have eaten something funny at dinner."

"Come see me at the office tomorrow. We can grab a bite tomorrow."

Seraphina scoffed. She wondered if she was about to get a front-row tour of Kaden and Lyra's escapades on company grounds.

Out of nowhere, Seraphina was tempted to stir mischief.

"Sure, I'll go to the office with you. I'll keep you company while you work. We can have lunch and head home together once you're done for the day."

Caught off guard by her answer, Kaden could barely keep his face straight. "But my work schedule has been hectic lately. I might not be able to stay by your side the whole day."

"Don't let me keep you from business. I'll stick around in your office."

"Very well then."

Back in their residential villa, Kaden offered to draw the bath for Seraphina. Once inside the bathroom, he closed the door behind him for once.

Seraphina took the stairs down to the ground floor and sat back in the car. She started the engine, and the recent chat history popped up on the integrated screen.

Kaden: Change of plans. The office is a no-go tomorrow.

Kitty Lyra: Oh, that's disappointing.

Kaden: Don't feel down, kitty. It'll be a lot more thrilling when I take you on the rooftop terrace.

Kitty Lyra: Hehe. You're the best, Alpha.

Seraphina stepped into the bedroom as Kaden emerged from the bathroom. "The bath is ready for you, Sera. You should take a nice soak."

"I'll pass. I just want to lay my head to rest."

"Okay. Rest well. That reminds me. Can I open the gift you left on the table yet?"

Seraphina replied, "Wait a week before you unwrap it."

"Why do I have to wait for a week? I can't wait to see what my Luna has prepared for me."

"Well…"

It would take a week before Seraphina permanently broke the mate bond between them.

"You’ll understand the significance of the gift in about a week."

Kaden gave Seraphina a peck on the forehead. "You're the boss."

Shortly after six the next morning, Kaden's phone went off.

Kaden rejected the call before turning to hold Seraphina close. "Ignore it. Let's get a few more minutes in bed."

However, the ringing was relentless.

Kaden furrowed his brows in annoyance. "It's barely dawn, and the useless council members are already hounding me during these ungodly hours. Mark my words. I'm bound to kick these wolves out one of these days."

He declined the call again.

The third time the call rang, Kaden sprang out of bed in a huff. "Stay in bed, Sera. I'll see what this emergency is all about."

Seraphina murmured, "Okay."

She rolled, having her back toward him.

Kaden grabbed the phone and walked out of the bedroom.

Soon, he showed up outside the front door on the ground floor.

Dressed in a bright yellow uniform, a human deliveryman handed Kaden a package.

Kaden accepted the package, but when he returned to the room, his hands were empty.

Seraphina asked, "Is something serious going on in the pack?"

Kaden answered, "It's nothing critical, Sera. Don't worry. Rest easy while I make you breakfast."

Either out of guilt or concern for her delicate stomach, Kaden went all out to prepare an elaborate breakfast. There was milk, poached eggs, jam sandwiches, and her favorite oatmeal.

"You should be careful with what you eat. I'm hiring a full-time chef to cook for you every day."

"That won't be necessary."

"Come on. Cooperate with me, or I won't be able to work with a peace of mind."

"Kaden, can I ask you a question?"

"Fire away."

Seraphina put down her cutlery and asked indifferently, "Do you really think the curse for breaking a mate bond in the pack is true?"

Kaden pulled a look of contempt. "That's punishment for the weak-minded. I'm not like these wolves. I'm faithful only to my Luna. I will love you, my one and only."

"Am I your one and only?"

"That's right."

"What if you fall for another she-wolf?"

"In that case, let Moon Goddess cast me out, take my powers away, and leave me to howl in eternal solitude."

Seraphina snickered cynically. "Bold words. Aren't you worried they'll come back to bite you?

"I speak from my heart. Why should I be scared?" Kaden uttered, "You should have faith in our mate bond, Sera."

Seraphina simply replied, "Dig in."

"Are you still doubting me? Do I have to rip my heart out of my chest to prove myself to you?"

"You've got someone waiting for you at the office. You mustn't be late."

Feeling assured, Kaden took a seat across from Seraphina. "Let them wait. They can't do anything right. I'll get rid of them sooner or later."

"Are you sure you want to get rid of her?" Seraphina singled out a singular pronoun rather than the plural form.

There was no telling whether Kaden caught onto the difference, but he responded, "Of course. You're the only one I can never let go of."

One thing was undeniable, though. Kaden came across as deeply moving in the video. Even those who couldn't understand the language could sense his despair through his expressions and the subtitles.Seraphina held the kitten in her arms, her eyes downcast as she said, "I doubt it. We are all separate beings. No one or wolf is essential to another's life. If he chooses to give up on himself, there's nothing that can be done. No one or wolf should suffer for his sake." Her heart was set. Even if Kaden stood before her in tears, she was not going back to him. Lisa smiled. "Okay. You can stay here without worry. With the recent heavy snow in the forest, the routes to the nearby town are inaccessible. Even if anyone mistakes you for the she-wolf in the ad, they won't have the chance to contact the wolf and his family." A feeling of ease rose within Seraphina. She took a bite of the freshly baked cookie and said with tearful eyes, "Thank you. These cookies are really lovely." Time pa

Kaden's rationality had long given way to despair. Once the caller mumbled a domestic address, Kaden let out a wry smile and ended the call. Unsurprisingly, the caller gave him a false tip. However, Kaden wasn't in the right state of mind to pursue the matter. From that day on, calls of a similar nature became non-stop. Every caller claimed to have spotted Seraphina in a certain location, then demanded compensation from Kaden. Despite knowing there were numerous con-artists among them, Kaden still paid them to grasp the faint possibility of a lead. These so-called leads went nowhere and disappeared without a trace. Yet, he was not even close to finding Seraphina. Still, Kaden could not care less. That fragile hope was the only thing keeping him going. He would even show up if the caller asked for a face-to-face meeting. A few she-wolves approached him, all dolled up and showing off their assets, clearly after something. They were straight with him. "Alpha, I have friend

The papers on the floor matched the stationery Seraphina had left. He had moved her unused notebooks from the study to the bedroom and wrote in them, day and night, for days on end. At this point, time was irrelevant.Judy said tearfully, "Sera doesn't want to see you. What purpose does writing a roomful of apologies serve? You should tell her these things in person." Kaden fell into contemplation before seeing the logic in Judy's remark. Still, he had gone too far down the path to come out. He looked up, his eyes strained, and said firmly, "She'll know. Once I'm done writing everything, she'll forgive me. That's right. I need to be sincere—" His voice rasped. Yet, his tone carried an unsettling fanaticism, and his gaze was unnervingly bright. He broke off mid-sentence, grabbed the notebook, and continued writing with a trembling hand while muttering under his breath. "I made a mistake, Sera. You're bound to forgive me, right? Once these books are filled, you will come back to

As frantic as he was, Kaden knew he couldn't secure the paperwork and a flight right away.It was three days later when he set foot in Newlay. He contacted the embassy and utilized the pack's connections to access the local resources to search for Seraphina.Sources revealed that someone named Kathryn Flint had rented a cabin in the woods. Kaden's heart raced as he was almost certain that Kathryn was Seraphina. Kaden pounded on the cabin door while calling Seraphina's name before pushing his way in, only to be stopped by the landlord, a tall man in the middle of cleaning. He uttered warily, "Who are you?" "I'm looking for Seraphina." Kaden quickly recalled that Seraphina went by a different name in Newlay and clarified, "Her name is Kathryn. She's my mate. There are some issues between us, and I need to straighten things out with her." The landlord dismissed him with a wave of his hand. "She's not here."The landlord said, "She has ended the lease and moved out. You've got the

Fueled by anger over her recent divorce from a cheating husband, a human woman stepped in Lyra's way and snarled, "You're young. Of all the things you could do, why choose to tear apart a family, side piece?!"With a stranger lashing out at her, Lyra snapped back defiantly, "You can't tempt a man even if you try, lady. Don't tell me that you're bitter because you can't keep your own man.""Hmph! At least I wasn't cast out on the street naked." The woman lunged to claw at Lyra. The confrontation escalated. Since the woman lived nearby, she called upon her friends to condemn Lyra for being a shameless bond breaker. Living for the drama, the other onlookers drew more people, and soon, a crowd gathered. The commotion was loud enough to be heard inside the villa, but Kaden paid no heed. He was lost in his own world. Lyra's screaming was no match for the crowd. Pushed to tears, she tried to cover her face and flee from the crowd, to be nearly violated by a handsy man who took advan

"You have no right to criticize Seraphina! You wanted those messages and pictures to get out. You took clear pictures of me while deliberately staying out of the frame. Don't take me for an idiot. You have been trying to force her out!" Kaden's mind could not be clearer. Alas, it was too late. Before Lyra could defend herself, Kaden was too disgusted to give her the time of day. He picked up the phone and called the security team. He instructed, "Escort the intruder out now." The villa's round-the-clock security detail acted on the Alpha's orders at onceLyra put up a fight, refusing to go with security. "Kaden, you invited me here. I'll leave if that's what you want, but you can't do this to me." With his back facing her, Kaden walked inside and uttered without looking back, "I don't want to see you ever again." "Kaden!" Lyra was dragged out of the gates. As the metal bars slammed shut right before her eyes, Lyra could see her life as the Luna slipping away. She cried o
