Chapter 7: She Would be Leaving Soon

Author: June
Ella stared at that ring. She felt the entire world spinning.

That ring. Alexander had never taken it off since their wedding day.

But now, it was in Jessica's hand.

"Mommy?" Leo tugged at her hand. "What's wrong?"

Ella looked down at her son. She saw his worried little face. She suddenly snapped back to reality. She forced herself to stay calm. Her voice trembled slightly. "Nothing, baby. Let's go."

"This ring is so beautiful." Jessica said behind her. Her voice was full of showing off. "But Alex took it off last night for convenience."

Ella's back stiffened. She didn't turn around. She just held Leo's hand and continued walking toward the door.

Sitting in the car, Ella's hands trembled as she gripped the steering wheel. She looked in the rearview mirror. She saw Leo sitting in the back seat. His little face still showed worry.

Ella bit her lip. Tears blurred her vision. She blinked hard. She forced herself to concentrate on driving.

At the school entrance, Ella helped Leo arrange his backpack. "Be good at school. Mommy will pick you up this afternoon."

"Mommy," Leo suddenly hugged her. He said softly, "I don't want to go home. That auntie is at home. I don't like her."

Ella's heart tightened. She hugged her son tight. "Very soon she won't be. Baby. Mommy promises."

After watching Leo walk through the school gates, Ella sat in the car. She finally couldn't hold it together. Tears flowed down silently. She covered her face with her hands. Her shoulders trembled.

But she couldn't stay like this. She took several deep breaths. She wiped away her tears. She started the engine and drove home.

Before she even entered, she heard commanding voices from inside.

"This sofa is too hard. Replace it. That lamp is too dark a color. I don't like it. The curtains need to be changed to off-white too. This blue looks depressing."

Ella pushed open the door. She saw the living room in chaos. The butler William and two servants were moving furniture. Jessica stood at the master bedroom doorway. One hand rested on the door frame. The other hand gently stroked her belly. She was directing everything.

"What are you doing?" Ella's voice was cold.

Jessica turned her head. Her face wore an innocent expression. "Oh, Ella, you're back. I just had William help me change some furniture. The soft furnishings in the master bedroom make me uncomfortable. Not good for pregnant women."

"The master bedroom?" Ella walked over. She saw servants moving out the nightstand she and Alexander had chosen together when they were newlyweds. "That's my bedroom."

"It's mine now." Jessica said with a smile. "Alexander said I'm pregnant and need good rest. The master bedroom is most comfortable. Best lighting. So he's letting me stay in the master bedroom."

Ella's face turned even paler. She turned to William. "Alexander really said that?"

William looked troubled as he lowered his head. He avoided Ella's gaze. "Sorry, Madam. The master just called with specific instructions. Miss Jessica is carrying the Blackwood family child. Her health is most important. He said... all changes in the house should prioritize Miss Jessica's needs. If she finds something uncomfortable, we can replace it freely."

Everything prioritizes Jessica's needs.

Ella stood there. She watched the furniture being carried out. That nightstand—she had spent a month selecting it because Alexander said he liked minimalist style. That lamp was her gift to him on their first wedding anniversary. That bedding set—she had personally selected the color because Alexander said blue made him feel calm.

Now, all of it was being removed. To be replaced by things Jessica preferred.

"Mrs. Blackwood?" William asked carefully. "Should we continue?"

Ella looked at the furniture. She suddenly laughed. That smile was so cold it made William shiver.

"Continue." She said. Her voice was very calm. "Since Mr. Blackwood said so, then continue."

She turned and went upstairs. She walked into the master bedroom. Jessica still stood at the door. Her face wore a triumphant smile. "Good that you know your place."

Ella ignored her. She walked straight to the closet and began packing her clothes. One by one. Folding them. Putting them in a suitcase.

"What are you doing?" Jessica frowned.

"Moving out of the master bedroom." Ella said calmly. "Since this is now your room, of course I need to move out."

Jessica froze for a moment. She clearly hadn't expected such cooperation. But soon, her smile deepened. "Good that you know your place."

Ella didn't respond. She continued packing. She packed clothes, cosmetics, a few books, and that photo of Leo from the nightstand. Everything else, she left behind.

Half an hour later, she dragged her suitcase out of the master bedroom. She temporarily placed the luggage in a guest room. It was the smallest room in the house. The lighting was worst too. But Ella didn't care.

She would be leaving this place soon anyway.

Lucas wiped the blood from his mouth with the back of his hand and started laughing coldly: "Alexander Blackwood, do you know how pathetic you are?""What?""Too late." Lucas's smile became more mocking. "Only now discovering your wife is missing? Too late. Only now wanting to win her back? Even more too late."Alexander's eyes turned blood red: "Tell me where she is!""You think she'd still want you?" Lucas said coldly. "You can't keep her. You've already lost her, lost her forever.""Shut up!" Alexander swung his fist again, but this time Lucas nimbly dodged."I'm warning you—""Warning me what?" Lucas sneered. "What else can you do? She's free now, Alexander."Alexander charged at Lucas in fury, but just then, Lucas picked up his phone, a smile appearing on his face.Alexander saw a phone number displayed on the screen. 911.Just then, sirens could be heard in the distance, getting closer and louder. At two AM in the New York police station, Alexander sat in an interrogat

Night fell, and candlelight cast flickering shadows on the crystal glasses in the dining room. Alexander sat at the head of the dining table, facing the carefully prepared dinner—the Italian seafood pasta had gone completely cold, the Caesar salad lettuce leaves were beginning to wilt, and the chocolate soufflé had long since collapsed into a mess.It was already eight-thirty at night."She probably hit traffic," Alexander told himself. "Or maybe Leo was having too much fun at the amusement park and didn't want to leave."But his hands were trembling.Alexander picked up his phone and dialed Ella's number again. The phone rang once, twice, three times..."The number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." The cold mechanical female voice came through."Damn it!" Alexander suddenly stood up, his chair making a harsh scraping sound. He dialed again, getting the same message. The third time, fourth time, fifth time... each time yielded the same result.

Ella hung up the phone and took a deep breath. The car smoothly stopped in front of the terminal at JFK Airport. The driver turned around and said: "Ma'am, we've arrived."Ella took out cash from her bag and handed it to the driver: "Thank you."She took Leo's hand and got out of the car, dragging her suitcase into the airport. The airport was bustling with people, various languages intertwining together, announcements echoing one after another. Leo gripped her hand tightly, his little face filled with nervousness and excitement."Mommy, are we really going to take a plane?" Leo looked up and asked, his eyes shining."Yes, baby." Ella crouched down, placing both hands on her son's shoulders, looking seriously into his eyes. She wanted to give him one last chance to choose, even though she had already made up her mind."Leo, Mommy is asking you one last time," her voice was soft and gentle. "Are you sure you want to leave with Mommy? If you don't want to go, Mommy will take you hom

Alexander stood in the empty room, feeling like the entire world was collapsing. The room had been cleaned completely. The bedding was neatly folded on the bed, nothing was on the desk, and the wardrobe was empty. It was as if no one had ever lived here.Alexander's gaze fell on the corner of the room, where a lone suitcase sat.Inside were all the gifts he had given Ella over the years. Those expensive jewelry pieces, bracelets, sculptures... all neatly arranged in the suitcase. Ella held Leo tightly, gently stroking his head, her voice tender: "Baby, why do you say that? Why do you think we're leaving?"Leo looked up, his little finger pointing to the bag Ella was carrying: "Because... because Mommy brought the photo out."Ella froze for a moment, following her son's finger to look at her bag. From the side pocket of the bag, the corner of a silver picture frame was showing. That was their only family photo. The picture that Jessica had smashed, Ella had carefully glued back together overnight and put it in a new frame. When she packed last night, she put this photo in her bag. This was the only thing related to Alexander that she took with her."Mommy never brings this photo out normally." Leo said quietly, big tears falling down. "Mommy, you won't leave me behind, right?"He cried very sadly, his small body trembling, hugging Ella's leg tightly.Ella's tears also fell. "Went to the nearby amusement park?" Alexander repeated, his voice carrying a trace of urgency."Yes, sir." William nodded. "Mrs. Blackwood said it was arranged last week, to take young master to the amusement park for the whole day. She asked me to prepare lunch boxes and—""She's still in New York?" Alexander interrupted him, his whole body relaxing with relief."Yes, sir. She said she would be back tonight."Alexander leaned back against the sofa and closed his eyes. She was still here. She hadn't really left. His heartbeat slowly calmed down, and his mind began racing. Those words last night must have been her throwing a tantrum at him. She must have been so angry about Jessica living at home that she deliberately brought out the divorce agreement to threaten him, forcing him to compromise.Yes, it must be that.Ella loved him so much, how could she really want a divorce? She was just acting out of anger.Alexander remembered the scene of signing last night, and a surge o
