My Wife, The Only One

Auteur: CCKing
Evelyn’s POV

He’s devastatingly handsome—sharp jawline taut, tailored suit clinging to his broad shoulders, every line of him exuding quiet dominance. The warm, silly man who played with Sophie is gone, replaced by someone cold, untouchable… yet his gray eyes, fixed on me, hold a flicker of something I can’t name.

Yet my heart flutters. Traitorous, stupid heart.

“Sebastian!” Sloane recovers, smiling. “Just bringing Sophie a gift.”

“Were you?” His voice drops—low, velvety, lethal, sharp enough to cut glass but laced with a protectiveness that makes my knees weak. “Sounded like you were attacking my wife.”

My heart stops. My wife. He called me his wife.

Heat floods my chest. I hate how I cling to those two words. How they make me hope.

“I just pointed out her methods of joining the family were… questionable,” Sloane says.

Sebastian’s expression doesn’t shift—cool, composed, but something predatory, something tender, flashes in his gray eyes, a silent warning that makes me shiver… and my heart race.

“Let me be clear, Sloane,” he says, each word precise, his voice steady but brimming with unshakable resolve. “Evelyn is my wife. The only one in this house. The only one there ever will be.” His gaze flicks to me, softening for a split second—so quick, no one else would notice.

His eyes flick to mine—searching. As if checking if I believe him. As if these words mean something.

He steps closer to Sloane, his tall frame towering over her, a silent, imposing presence. She retreats instinctively, and I catch the way his jaw tightens—protective, territorial, every inch the powerful CEO who’d burn the world down for what’s his.

“The day I put a ring on her finger, her past, her methods—none of it matters,” he says, voice low and authoritative, every word heavy with resolve. “Disrespect her, and you’re picking a fight with me.”

A family friend smirks. “Defending her this fiercely? Not just duty, is it?” Another mocks: “Everyone knows it’s not a real marriage.”

Sebastian’s jaw tightens, the muscle in his cheek flexing—a rare crack in his composure. One word, cold, final, and laced with authority: “Leave.” No room for argument, no mercy for anyone who’d hurt me.

Silence. Sloane glares, calculating. Finally, she snaps: “Fine. But don’t cry to me when this blows up.” She storms out, gift left behind.

“Dispose of that,” I tell the housekeeper, steady. “No more letting Sloane in.”

Sebastian watches her storm out, expression unreadable—but I’m stuck on his profile: sharp jaw, hair falling over his forehead, quiet intensity oozing from every inch.

When he turns to me, the cold vanishes, his gray eyes softening into something warm, something tender… dangerous, because it makes me want to believe him.

“I’m sorry about that,” he says, gentle. “Sloane forgets her boundaries.”

He moves closer, steps slow and deliberate, until his cologne—warm, woody, uniquely his—wraps around me like a hug.

I can see silver flecks in his gray eyes, clear and intense, like he’s trying to memorize every detail of my face.

“I came home to give you this,” he says, pulling a box from his jacket. “For Sophie.”

Inside: tiny ballet slippers—exquisite, pearl-adorned.

“She lingered by a pair like this weeks ago,” he explains, his voice low and soft, a stark contrast to the cold authority he’d shown Sloane. “Her eyes lit up. I couldn’t stop thinking about it—couldn’t stop wanting to give her that light.”

His attention to detail—devastating, attractive, the kind of thoughtfulness that makes my heart ache. This man, who commands boardrooms and bends the world to his will, remembers the smallest things about the people he cares for.

“Her birthday’s coming,” he says, eyes locking with mine. “Is there anything you want? This day’s yours too, as much as hers.”

My breath catches. He steps closer, so close our shoulders almost brush. His gray eyes lock on mine.

Then my phone vibrates. A message from an unknown number.

”Mrs. Hawthorne, before you trust him completely, you should know what he’s hiding from you. Check your email.“

I look up. Sebastian is still watching me, unaware.

What does he know? What doesn’t he know?

  • Billionaire Regret: Gone with Our Newborn   He Knew It

Evelyn's POVThe nurse gently guided me into the private examination room. The heavy wooden door clicked shut, cutting off the sight of Sebastian in the corridor. Dr. Aris washed his hands methodically at the sink. "Please, have a seat on the examination bed, Mrs. Hawthorne," he said warmly, pulling on a pair of fresh latex gloves. "Let's get this blood drawn so we can see what's causing these dizzy spells."I didn't move. I stood frozen in the center of the room. My eyes were locked on the sterile syringes resting on the silver tray. The crisp, white crinkle of the paper on the examination bed sounded like a death knell. Once that needle pierced my skin, the blood would be drawn. The incredibly efficient Hawthorne lab would process the hormonal panel in less than an hour. The surging HCG levels would be printed and handed directly to the man outside that door."Mrs. Hawthorne?" Dr. Aris turned around, holding a tourniquet. He noticed my rigid posture. "Is everything alright? Are yo

Evelyn's POVHis hand, which I had just pushed away, remained suspended in the cold air between us.I watched his face closely. There was no explosion of anger. No raised voice. But in the dim light of the parking garage, I saw the exact moment the impact hit him.The dark, confident depths of his eyes fractured. His chest stopped moving. The breath caught in his throat. The immaculate, aristocratic mask he wore every single day slipped for a fraction of a second. But it was only for a second. The Hawthorne training was too deeply ingrained. He slowly lowered his hand. He blinked. The brief vulnerability vanished, instantly replaced by a chilling, impenetrable wall of dark ice. His jaw set. His expression smoothed out into perfect, freezing detachment."I see," he said. His voice was quiet. Hollow. It sounded like it was coming from very far away.I let out a slow, silent exhale. It's over, I thought. He accepts it. We are finally done.I turned away from him and took a step toward t

Evelyn's POVThe cool air of the underground parking garage felt refreshing. I stood near the VIP elevator bank, taking a deep breath to settle the lingering nausea in my stomach.Mr. Peterson's phone suddenly rang. He pulled it out, frowning at the caller ID."Excuse me, Evelyn," he said, answering the call. "Peterson."I watched his expression shift from relaxed to intensely focused. He listened for a moment, rubbing the back of his neck."Alright," Peterson said into the phone. "Freeze the logistics transfer. I'll be right up."He hung up and looked at me apologetically. "I'm so sorry, Evelyn. The new junior team botched the supply chain software integration. It's a massive mess. I need to go back up to the retail floor and fix this immediately.""It's perfectly fine," I said, offering a warm, understanding smile. "Work comes first. I can easily take a company car home. Please, go.""Are you sure you're okay to get home alone?" he asked, his genuine concern evident."Thank you for wa

Sebastian's POVThe corridor was quiet, but my mind was deafeningly loud.Just two weeks ago, Evelyn had looked at me with that familiar, quiet devotion. She had carefully brought me tea in my study. She had blushed when I simply asked to spend time with her.But today? A complete 180-degree turn. She stood in front of a room full of executives and flawlessly handed her seat beside me to Blair. She calmly watched me accept Blair's invitation. She watched Blair whisper in my ear with zero reaction. And now, she had engaged in a light, comfortable conversation with Peterson, and simply walked away.I adjusted my cuffs. I tried to focus on the European retail projections displayed on the screen. But the numbers blurred into meaningless shapes.I stepped back from the table. By the time I actually realized what I was doing, the heavy doors of the boardroom were already closing behind me. I had unconsciously followed them out.I rounded the corner toward the elevator bank.I stopped dead in

She smoothed her skirt and immediately began walking toward the front of the room, practically glowing with triumph.I shifted my gaze to Sebastian. He didn't speak immediately. He sat perfectly still in his leather chair. His posture remained immaculate. He was the picture of aristocratic composure. But I noticed the subtle, rigid tightening of his sharp jawline. his gaze didn't move from my face,It was profound and chilling. A quiet, heavy storm was brewing in those fathomless depths. In the past, that specific look would have sent me scrambling. I would have instantly regretted testing his patience. I would have canceled the seat swap and rushed to his side to soothe his displeasure. But today, I felt nothing.Or rather, I felt something new. I felt a sudden, weightless sense of freedom."If that is what you wish, Evelyn," Sebastian finally said. His voice was smooth, cultur

She probably bribed the event coordinator to get that seat.""Play hard to get in the morning, demand the seat of honor in the afternoon.
