Damien's POV

"Say that again," I said.

"The timestamps on the four photographs are wrong. Six minutes off, consistently, on all four. That's not a phone glitch. That's someone editing metadata by hand." He paused, and I could hear him flipping something, paper against paper. "The lobby footage from the Meridian doesn't match what your wife was sent. Whoever sent her those images built them to look worse than what actually happened."

I leaned my shoulder against the wall of the hallway, phone pr

  • Billionaire's Biggest Regret    CHAPTER FORTY-ONE

Damien's POVMy phone rang loudly in my pocket as I was reviewing the emails my assistant had sent for the Kessler acquisition meeting happening in the next forty minutes.I picked it up and it was Aria. “Damien, hi, sorry to bother you this early in the morning.” Aria's voice came in a little too rushed. “ I know it's a Saturday and you should be resting from work but I've got a situation. The bathroom sink is basically flooding the cabinet under it, and I don't know what I'm doing wrong while trying to fix it. Marcus usually helps with stuff like this, but he's currently out of town for work and won't be back until next week.”“Send me a picture of it.” She did a few seconds later, and a notification popped in. Water pooling under the sink, a repair tool lying uselessly on the tile floor that was already wet, clearly a failed attempt to fix it.“I can be there in twenty minutes,” I said “You don't have to drop everything. I can probably figure it out or just call someone.” She h

Aria's POVCan I Call Him DadI went to pick Elias up from the daycare at a little after five, which wasn't the usual time. I went late due to the client I was working with.“Miss Bennett.” Denis greeted me the moment her eyes landed on me. “You came in late, all the kids have already been picked up, Elias's is the only one left.” She said, her voice coming out a little concerned.I gave her an apologetic look, “thank you Denise.”I turned to where Elias' tiny figure was sitting with his legs crossed beside the cubbies, waiting with his backpack which usually meant he had something on his mind.“Hey bug.” I crouched down to his level, giving him an apologetic look, “I'm sorry I couldn't come on time, I got held up in the office.” I said gently but he wasn't paying me any attention. He gets grumpy whenever I come late. “Did you have a good day?” I asked and he nodded without sparing me much glance. It's hard to read what a two years old child had in his mind.“Mommy,”he finally calle

  • Billionaire's Biggest Regret    CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE

Aria's POVI Look Like HimIt has been almost a week since Edward was released and surprisingly, it has been too quiet, nothing strange has happened yet.The strange part was that I kept waiting for something to actually happen. The thought of waiting became its own kind of burden.Damien's men were invisible just as he had promised they would be. I had never seen them and wouldn't have known they were there if he hadn't told me.And honestly, it felt comforting in its own way.Edward hasn't made any move, none that anyone could tell. No strange phone calls, no messages, no sign of him at all apart from a monitor that was placed on him.It should've made me feel safer, but it didn't. Instead, it made it worse. A man who had used his own daughter to get what he wanted regardless of her feelings, someone who had spent decades manipulating things before anyone could catch on.Edward was the type to move when no one expects him to and that was exactly what he was after. To make us let ou

  • Billionaire's Biggest Regret    CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT

Damien's POVSecurityI arrived at Aria's apartment at exactly nine o'clock in the morning the next day. I spent most of the night thinking of a way out. I rang the door bell and after a few minutes, the door clicked open revealing Aria who was still dressed in the clothes she was wearing yesterday.Behind her, a laptop was on the dining table with papers scattered around it in a way that told me she hadn't gotten much work done.Elias was on the floor still in what looked like pajamas, stacking blocks of toys without paying us any attention.“You look like you didn't get much sleep last night.” I said.“I didn't,” she admitted with a small frown, then shifted for me to go in. “Come in”I sat across from her at the small dining table. Aria closed the laptop halfway, not completely sure what kind of conversation this was going to be.“I need to tell you something about Edward.” I said. Her hands still went on the pen I didn't realize she was holding until now.“What about him?” her

Damien's POVHigher-ups“Can you repeat what you just said again?” I asked just to be sure I wasn't hearing things.“Edward Hart was released two hours ago” Liam said with a deep sigh, sounding as surprised as I felt. “Reduced bail, I only got informed of it myself.”I stood completely still in the parking lot, my hand still on the car door, trying to make sense of the whole situation. I've been so occupied with Elias' health for the past few days, I completely forgot about Edward.“Reduced bail,” I repeated with a tight frown. “On a kidnapping charge.” I scoffed out loud, this had to be the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a while.“That's right sir. I don't have all the details just yet. I called your lawyer earlier, she said it looked like some higher ups were involved and I figured whatever explanation she had, you should hear it directly from her.”Liam said.I ended the call without another word, then got into my car and instead of driving home, I dialed my lawyer's number a

  • Billionaire's Biggest Regret    CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX

Damien's POVIt has been three days since we've been at the hospital. That's how long it has been. Three days since I got a text from Aria in the middle of a meeting.‘I'm so sorry, but I need you to come now’ attached to it was a hospital address. Before now I would've put the meeting over anything else, but that was years ago. I gave my order to my PA to attend to anything that comes up at the office and until I was back, I shouldn't be disturbed.By day two, Elias was moved out of the intensive monitoring and into the normal recovery ward. The doctor assured us that he was responding very fast to medication and there was no longer a risk of people coming and going out of his ward.Marcus had been in and out of the hospital for the past three days. Dominant in a way that you'll think he was Elias's father. He knew exactly what to do and how to do it, and I on the other hand didn't even know where to begin. After the warehouse incident, Marcus and I haven't been interactive. Even
