CHAPTER SIXTY NINE

Sitting at the backseat of the cab in shock and pondering on what just happened, she noticed her phone was ringing so she searched her tote bag for it. When she found it, she stared at the screen in shock

“Why is he calling me?” Ruby wondered, her mind racing with questions and uncertainties. With a deep breath, she finally mustered up the courage to answer the call.

“Hello?” Ruby replied hesitantly, her tone giving away her astonishment.

“Hi Ruby, it’s Robert Moore, are you home yet?” he asked in a familiar voice that made her cringe badly. “I hope I’m not calling at a wrong time.”

As Ruby listened to him speak, her fingers automatically curled around her phone. “Not at all,” she replied in a restrained way ignoring his first question.

Robert added with a whiff of doubt, “I’m sorry to call you unexpectedly.” “I just wanted to be sure, if you still use the same number?”
