Taking a deep breath, Michael was about to let the conversation drop when Alexander’s voice cut through the tension like a blade.

“Deal.”

The dealer, who had been waiting patiently, hesitated and looked at Serena. “Miss, it seems that you don’t have any chips…”

In the casino, it was standard to exchange checks or cash for chips, and waiters were always nearby to assist. But Serena had been brought here on a whim and didn’t have any money prepared.

Michael signaled for an assistant to exchange chips for him and turned to Serena, his tone dripping with contempt. “Since you’re married, why don’t you go home and take care of your child? Leave this seat for someone who knows what they’re doing.”

His voice carried an edge of disdain, and his expression made his thoughts clear. Bringing her here was supposed to restore his dignity. Instead, she had turned the tables and embarrassed him. The more he looked at her, the more irritated he felt.

She wasn’t suitable for anything—not as a mistress a

The man and woman who entered were plainly dressed, their clothes worn but neat—evidence of long travel. The woman’s hair was tied back in a messy bun, and her eyes darted nervously around the elegant office before settling on Serena.“Serena,” the woman breathed, her voice trembling with something between awe and desperation.Serena frowned slightly, her posture instinctively straightening behind her desk. “Let’s talk over there,” she said, motioning toward the leather couch by the window. The woman—Quinn Ferguson—nodded, tugging lightly at the sleeve of the man beside her, Elliot Dundley. They both followed her lead, their footsteps hesitant on the marble floor. When Serena sat down, Quinn immediately pulled a folded envelope from her worn handbag and handed it over with both hands. “Serena, we were notified a few days ago that our daughter was in New York City,” she said quickly. “So we took the bus all the way from Charleston to find you.”Inside the envelope was a paternity test.

Marilyn was sprawled across the couch, her head heavy and body drenched in a feverish sweat. The air in her apartment was thick, the curtains half-drawn so that only faint streaks of afternoon light slanted across the floor. Her mind drifted in and out of awareness until she heard the faint click of the door unlocking.“Marilyn?”The familiar voice stirred her.Serena stepped inside, worry etched into her delicate features. She was still in her work attire—sleek black trousers, a silk blouse tucked neatly in, her hair slightly tousled from the cold wind outside. Setting her handbag aside, she crossed the room in quick strides and knelt beside the couch.“I sent you a dozen messages,” she said, her tone laced with concern. “When you didn’t reply, I got the spare key from the housekeeper. You’re burning up—I’ve already called my doctor to come take a look.”Marilyn blinked sluggishly, her dry lips parting as if to respond, but her throat burned with every breath. She wanted to thank Ser

The night was unnervingly quiet until Serena’s phone buzzed violently on the nightstand. She jolted upright, her heart hammering. The message on the screen made her blood run cold. Her hand trembled as she whispered, “Marilyn’s been kidnapped… they’re after me.”Beside her, Alexander was already awake. His sharp instincts, honed from years of vigilance, kicked in before his mind fully caught up. He swung his legs off the bed and wrapped a steadying arm around her shoulders.“What happened?” he asked, his voice low but firm.Serena swallowed hard, forcing the words past the lump in her throat. “It’s Marilyn. They took her. Whoever did this… they want me.”Alexander’s expression hardened. He moved with swift precision, pulling on his shirt, his phone already in his hand. Within seconds, he was issuing terse commands.Five minutes later, one of his men—Ann—called back with intel. The signal trace pointed to a warehouse district on the outskirts of the city.Alexander turned to her, tone

Steam still clung to Alexander’s skin as he stepped out of the bathroom, the faint scent of cedarwood soap lingering in the cool air. The room was dimly lit, the bedside lamp casting a soft amber glow across the sheets where Serena lay sound asleep. Half her face was buried in the blanket, her breathing slow and even, her hair spilling over the pillow like dark silk. For a long moment, he just watched her — that rare, unguarded peace on her face. Then he slipped quietly into bed and pulled her into his arms, her warmth fitting perfectly against him. Just as he began to drift toward sleep, his phone buzzed on the nightstand.Suppressing a sigh, Alexander reached for it and answered in a low voice. “What’s up?”“Mr. Vanderbilt,” the man on the other end said, his tone cautious, “we checked every man named Matheo connected to Ms. Morales. Her routine’s been straightforward — mostly between the county and New York City. None of the Marios or Matheos in those areas have any link to her.”A

The faint hum of the refrigerator filled the quiet apartment. After a long evening, the air still smelled faintly of roasted garlic and red wine. She rinsed her hands, squirted detergent into her palm, and began to scrub a plate. The warm water and the steady rhythm of cleaning calmed her thoughts—until she suddenly felt strong arms slide around her waist.Alexander.His touch was firm, possessive, the heat of his body seeping through her thin blouse. She stiffened in surprise; he had barely spoken a word all through dinner—just a few short, gruff replies. Now, without warning, he was pressing against her, his breath grazing her neck. Before she could turn, his lips were already on hers.“Wait—” Serena managed, half-laughing, half-protesting. “I’ve got soap on m

The day had stretched into eternity for Serena. She hadn’t really stopped working since the night before—barely catching two hours of restless sleep before dragging herself back to the office at dawn. By five in the morning, the sky was still painted in pale gray when she unlocked the doors of E.A. Studios, coffee in hand, ready to dive back into the chaos.Though the company was running smoother now, it was still in its infancy. Taking over a huge portion of Ruiz Star Entertainment’s operations had doubled everyone’s workload. The hallways buzzed with life at all hours—phones ringing, printers humming, assistants darting between offices clutching folders. And at the center of it all was Serena—sharp, steady, and exhausted. She’d spent the entire day bouncing between meetings, reviewing budgets, editing marketing pitches, and reading through endless contracts. Every small decision—every casting approval, every sponsorship deal—passed through her hands.By evening, her vision blurred f
