"It's him, isn't it?" I asked with a forced smile, trying so hard to rein in my anger, because what was I mad for?

Aiden was neither my husband or even boyfriend… he was my boss, technically. He paid me to attend parties with him, work in his dad's company and get extra cash while at it, show up at zoom meetings, etc. Getting jealous about his affairs with other women was not part of my job description in any way.

But what if this was a joke? Ashley was too good for this. We had only known each other for a short while, but I was already vouching for her. She would never hurt het so-called friend like this, would she?

"This is a joke, right? You're not really pregnant. This is just one of your silly games." I smiled for effect, but she did not smile back. She was shaking now, so I calked out, "Ashley? Talk to me. Is this a joke?" After a short pause, I added, "And if it's not, who is it?"
