Chapter 2

POV Stella

This can’t be happening.

This isn’t real.

Stella stayed in bed for days refusing food and refusing help from the nurses. Stella was slowing getting her memories back from the day of the accident. She remembered that Jack was singing to a song on the radio, and she was hanging her arm out the window loving the way the wind felt on her hand. Stella and Jack had just been to the doctor for a fertility appointment, Stella was feeling at complete ease as she had just received great news that their embryo transplant was successful, and she was finally pregnant.

After 2 years of trying to fall pregnant and having no diagnosis why she couldn’t fall pregnant naturally this was a relief. Stella was watching Jack smile and sing along to a song on the radio. That’s when it happened. Jack saw the car coming towards them and put his arm in front of Stella to protect her. His last act, to protect Stella.

Tears were falling down her cheeks thinking of those last moment over and over again.

Stella kept thinking why she had survived, why did she have to keep living why didn't she just die with Jack.

Stella was released from hospital after a few weeks in hospital. She still had to attend follow up appointment to check her head and her back. The bite in her neck healed well as the doctors said they must have gotten to it fast enough for there to be no infection. Stella was numb and barely listened to what they told her. She didn’t care anymore.

When she was in hospital, Stella’s worst fear happened, she miscarried. The doctors said it was the stress of the accident her body couldn’t cope.

I failed.

I lost the only thing I had left of Jack.

Stella couldn’t bare to be in her house by herself, her sister-in-law was with her sitting in the kitchen cooking. Stella’s sister-in-law Brittney wasn’t the best at comforting or talking but her way to look after someone was to cook and clean and make sure they ate. Stella didn’t mind she liked the quiet and if it wasn’t for Brittney she probably wouldn’t be eating.

Stella looked at Brittney and realised she was crying, Stella walked over to her and was about to ask her what was wrong and that’s when she saw in her hand the photo of Brittney, Jack and their mum who had passed away a few years ago.

Stella and Brittney where the only family they each had left.

Stella stood there for a moment and then wrapped her arms around Brittney and they both stood there crying.
