Demi POV

“Do you think this looks good?” Stepping out of the closet, I wasn’t sure. Jeans haven’t been my favorite thing to wear, but it was a cooler day. Even though the sun was shining, there was a crisp in it that made me want to stay warm.

Heather looked me up and down. “Since it is a little muddy, those boots are probably the best option.”

I looked at myself in the mirror. Paring some cowboy boots with skinny jeans, I tucked in my sweater and added a blazer. Heather curled my hair, so it was bouncy and looked flawless. “The boots are almost too much.”

“Well, the alternative is dressier shoes, and that will ruin them.” Heather shrugged. “Besides, we are just going to be hanging out. Are you really going to be playing games and walking around?” Heather looked at me like I was stupid. “Maybe we should tie a trash bag against your waist.”

I heard the bedroom door open. “Kiss my ass.” Sighing, I moved to finish putting on some lip gloss as Luca walked around the corner.

After my third time emptying my stomach, I was finally able to sit against the wall and take a few breaths. “I thought I heard you in here.” Luca walked into the bathroom. After one look at the toilet, he flushed it, cleaned it and then sat beside me. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.” Luca put his arm around my legs and let me rest my head against his shoulder. “Eh, I’ve been awake.”“Thinking about what?” “How Hunter deals with June.” Luca sighed. “After Amelia asked that, I just watched them all evening. He just followed her around, apologizing to everyone.”“That’s probably why they want to retire completely. Travel to places he doesn’t need to apologize to.” “I’m surprised you didn’t want to play any games.” Luca looked down at me and smiled. I just shrugged. “I just don’t have much energy to do stuff. I don’t really feel bad, just feel like I need to sit down.” “We don’t have to go to the casino.” I knew Luca had a plan, and staying home wasn’t a part of it. He had t

“Of course.” I gave her a small smile, even though she was avoiding my gaze. Heath sat down next to me. Heather wanted to sit somewhere other than Heath’s lap, however there weren’t other options. “What happened to you?” Reese asked Heath. “Training was rough.” Heath shrugged. “It’s been a morning already.” “Sounds like it.” Rook smirked. “So, we have the shooting competition tomorrow and then what is Friday?” “I believe the men are doing an alpha training corse or battle or something.” Heath sighed. “I don’t really know the details. June wanted it to be a surprise so no one could prepare for it.” “I didn’t sign up for physical activity.” Reese groaned. “This is supposed to be a relaxing week.” “You know, she can’t do anything about it if we all leave before the sun comes up and don’t return until late…” I whispered. Looking back, Luca was still gone. “That’s not a bad idea…” Heather whispered. “I could use some fresh air.” I locked eyes with Heath. His jaw was clenched, clear

Luca clenched his jaw and looked at Nora. “Whatever she needs.” He sighed and pulled me out of the room. “Damn.” I whispered as we walked slowly. “Yeah.” Luca sighed. “You know you aren’t to blame. Even if we knew, it wouldn’t have changed what happened.” “Still. I feel responsible.” “Me too. Let’s let Jared take care of Nora and then we can reach out later. Maybe we can figure out a way to make things right with her.” “Yeah.” We had to stop talking since we walked into the foyer. It was filled with people coming and going. There was this vibrant energy buzzing as we went outside. Kids were running around after each other. Parents were in groups, talking and mingling with drinks in their hands. Smoke from multiple grills filled the air with savory goodness. The smell instantly made my mouth water. “I need BBQ and like now.” I whispered to Luca. He looked down at me and smirked. “Oh, yeah?” Letting go of my hand, he pulled me next to him with his arm around my shoulders. Thread

“Heath.” Luca’s voice held an edge to it as he sat down in an armchair. They locked eyes, and I knew it wasn’t good. Heather seems unaware of what was going on as she kept scrolling. “You could do a wolf theme?” Heather held out her phone for me to see. “Demi.” Luca said my name in a way that made me instantly look at me. “Come here.” He whispered, patting his leg. Without hesitation, I got up from my spot and sat down on Luca’s lap. His hand rested on my thigh as he looked at Heath. “Heather, I need to talk to you.” Oh shit. What did he do? I watched as Heath pulled her phone down and tilted her head up to look at him. “What?” She asked. “I need to tell you something.” Heather looked confused. “Oh?” “Before we met, the three of us went to a restaurant. Nora was with us.”“You slept with Nora?” Heather leaned away from Heath.“NO!” Heath held up his hands and shook his head. “Just let me tell you first and then you can ask questions.” Heather crossed her arms over her chest. “

Luca POVWhen I got back to my office, Heath was in the same place as he was before. I had my suspicion before Demi caught onto it. However, hearing her say it out loud was enough to push me to do what I needed to do. Nothing seemed to be out of place as I got back to my chair. Heath put away his phone and looked at me. “Is Demi really okay?” His concern seemed genuine. “She is handling things much better since she accepted her wolf and decided to fully trust me.” Heath snorted and leaned back. “It took her a long time to trust again. I’m glad she finally got there. You deserved everything she gave you.” He smiled at me like we were old friends again. The more Heath looked into my eyes, the faster his smile faded. “Come on, man. Don’t make me do it. Just tell me.” Heath closed his eyes and sighed. “I never betrayed you. I’m trying to protect Heather.” He stood up and pulled out his wallet. Pulling out a piece of paper, he tossed it down on my desk before sitting back down. There

The office door opened before Dylan or Callie could answer it. Luca looked tired and worn out. “Eating?” He asked, hiding his annoyance with a smile. “Working on it.” The strawberries tasted so good. It was like a craving I didn’t know I had that was getting fulfilled. “You might have to stalk up on strawberries.” Callie smirked as Luca pulled out a folding chair and sat down next to me. “Easy enough to do.” Luca grabbed the peach and bit down into it. “How are things going… really?” Callie narrowed her eyes at Luca. “Like shit. We just don’t have any leads and nothing is making sense.” Luca sighed and kept eating. He finally looked relaxed with his ankle over his leg. Dylan put his hand on Callie’s leg. “We will let you kids get to it. Let me know if you need anything.” He stood up and looked at us. “And I mean anything.” Raising his eyebrows at Luca to drive his point home, Callie stood up as well. “Yes. We love you kids. Whatever decisions you make, we support it.” Callie sm

June and Callie didn’t have a comeback to that. “Let’s just relax.” Luca finally spoke up. “She will be by my side or between Heath or Reese.” My eyes snapped to his face. He didn’t flinch or give anything away, but I knew he could feel my curiosity. What about Rook? I thought he was a part of this pack thing? He didn’t comment on the mind-link, but Luca held a hand down for me. My wolf was pushing me to accept whatever decision he had made. Knowing that he would keep us safe. The moment our hands touched, she curled up and relaxed inside me. “Is that enough?” Dylan asked, bringing me out of my thoughts. “Well…” Luca started, but stopped when he felt my stomach turn through the bond. I barely made it to the trash by the time my stomach rolled over. Since there wasn’t much in there, the bile just burned in my eyes. “… she isn’t going to be running around.” Luca held my hair back at I collected myself. Handing me a tissue and some water, he took the trash bag and tied it shut. “Do y

Both of their faces went blank and their bodies froze. I could tell they were expecting bad news and was taken aback when it wasn’t. Heather snapped out of it first. “Oh, my! Congratulations!” Instantly, she came to me with her arms out. “I’m so excited for a little nephew or niece to teach all the things to!” I looked over just in time to see Heath give Luca an actual hug. “Damn, man. This is such great news.” “We will tell everyone today at the meeting and then we will tell the pack at the Luna Ceremony.” “How are you feeling?” Heather touched the back of her hand to my cheek. “You do look pale. I thought it was just the pressure of everything.” “Eh.” Shrugging, I was okay. “I’m good until I will randomly need to throw up and it will be quick with zero warning.” “Craving anything?” “Not that I know of. I just found out last night.” Heath walked around and sat down in an armchair. “This complicates things.” Luca nodded and put his hand on my shoulder. “It does. However, I fee
