Ember

I didn't wait any minute before hugging Kai even tighter to myself and fled the place. I could feel his burning gaze on me, until I entered into the taxi and it drove away from the company.

By the time I arrived at silver fang pack it was almost afternoon, I head directly to the pack estate where I lived with Lyra, Alpha Jordan and some of the omegas in the pack, I entered and plopped myself on the couch,

Something smells delicious, and judging by the aroma from the food coming from the kitchen, it could only mean one thing.

I stood at the kitchen entrance for sometime, Lyra whipped her head to look at me the moment she noticed I was there.

Her hair had now been styled beautifully, her eyes were also shining brightly, the woman had put enough effort into looking more beautiful.

"Where is he?" I asked looking around as I released Kai hand so he would go and play with his friends in the estate.

"How did you know he has already arrived?" She raised her eyebrows as she picked up a knife, skillfully chopping the vegetables.

I rolled my eyes then I entered the kitchen, leaning against the cabinet, "I mean it's not everyday you see Luna Lyra Moon in the kitchen, and cooking that is, unless someone is home."

I concluded with a grin and I could see the redness at the tip of her ear deepening. She hadn't responded when I heard;

"Papa." I heard Kai beamed, as I turned to look in his direction, didn't Kai go to play with his friends?

I saw him rushing to meet a man, his tall and strong appearance might deceive someone into thinking he was still in his thirties. Alpha Jordan ink deep black eyes glanced in my direction.

"Alpha Jordan." I walked up to him with a smile.

He already has Kai in his arms as he pinches his cheeks, "Growing fatter eh? Men should be fit and firm, just take a look at your papa, I'm still more than handsome even at this age."

"Kai is cute, not fat." He protested with his mouth pouting at Alpha Jordan as he turned his head to the opposite direction.

I laughed at his actions and went to his side, but the man also pulled me into his warm embrace and patted my back, "My beautiful Ember, how have you been?"

Kai, who was still pouting, now calmly nestled in his arms, clearly unhappy about being teased. Jordan knew Kai's sensitive spots, and that the "fat" comment always hit a nerve.

"Don't be sulky, my boy," Alpha Jordan whispered, "You know I love you, and even though papa said he's handsome, do you know the most handsome?"

He shook his head.

"The most handsome is Kai."

Kai's scowl deepened, but a hint of a smile now played on his lips.

Alpha jordan kissed Kai's cheeks, then turned to Lyra, who was busy cooking in the kitchen.

The aroma of foods being prepared wafted through the air, making my stomach growl with hunger. "Did you feed my boy this morning?" Alpha Jordan asked in a gentle voice sitting in a chair.

"Yes." I replied to him. As I also took a seat.

"You can all head to the table now. I'll be serving the food shortly." Lyra called from the kitchen.

We made our way to the table, I glanced over at Lyra in the kitchen, then I sat Kai down at the dinner table before going over to help her with the servings but she quietly snapped at me, "You go back! I don't need any help, now that my husband is back, I want to prove my skills, and mind you I won't let anyone, not even you take part of the credits."

I laughed and waved my hands in surrender, "Of course you can do it as much as you can, don't just tire yourself out because of credits he had already given to you even before the food touched the table."

She pursed her lips then pushed me out of the kitchen, "Go and attend to Kai, the boy might need you. Moreover you knew how much I loved cooking."

"Really?" I asked teasingly, but Lyra only glared in return so I returned to the dining room and took a seat next to Kai.

Soon Lyra brought several dishes to the table and started to arrange them.

"You should've let the omegas handle the serving, even if you love cooking so much, I don't want my wife stressing herself over cooking."

Lyra's face relaxed into a warm, and calm smile. Her eyebrows were slightly raised as she shrugged and replied, "I want to do it, so just sit back and enjoy."

Whenever Alpha Jordan is not around, Lyra wouldn't step into the kitchen to cook, but whenever Alpha Jordan is around, she'll be ready to cook the ocean and fry mountains even though Alpha didn't want her to be stressed out.

"Give more pancakes to my little boy," Alpha Jordan said to Lyra who was serving the food. I glanced at him, people would doubt it wasn't him just now teasing the boy that he's getting fat.

"But the one on his plate is enough... He can barely finish it." Lyra explained.

"Kai wants more pancakes." He squealed.

She rolled her eyes and put one more on his plate, then she sat.

We started eating in silence, I guess he arrived not too long ago as Lyra leaned in and began to ask Alpha Jordan, "How's the food management thing going?"

Alpha Jordan's face lit up with a warm smile as he dug into his food. "I was going to that, but I thought it should be after eating, but now that you've mentioned it, I'll just say whatever it is, we just landed this huge deal with a major corporation to build a solar farm. I'm talking huge, Lyra. And it's all thanks to Ember's idea that we used for my company."

The moment I heard my name, my hand movements slowed a little. A few months ago when Jordans business was going downhill and it was affecting the pack, after all his company supplied the pack foods, I had suggested making use of an energy harvesting system to grow the plant. But him saying it now, I guess it worked.

He took a bite, savoring the flavors before continuing, "She figured out a way to make using solar panels way more efficient. And we can even use less land. It's a total win-win."

Lyra turned to me and said, "We couldn't thank you enough for how you've been helping us, I'm really grateful for that."

"You don't have to say thank you Lyra, you've also helped me more than I could ever pay back by giving ideas that happen to work. I should be grateful to you for accommodating me and Kai and in addition, treating us with love, I can't thank you enough for that."

Lyra smiled as she prepared to respond, my phone buzzed with a ring. It's my business line, so I placed down the fork and swallowed the food in my mouth before picking it up, "Hello, it's Ember Flynn on the line, who am I speaking with?"

"Josey Wales from Relies exhibitions, I'm calling to announce to you that your submission has been accepted and you can come to the company tomorrow to sign the contract."

The moment the call ended, my eyes widened, I hadn't expected this, even though I submitted my proposal, I don't expect to be picked, at least my company just started about a year ago and has not expanded largely, so I just submit the proposal for submission sake, I hadn't expected mine to be selected when there are more huge companies who submitted.

I couldn't help but question, why me?

But I was also excited as I drank a glass of water to calm myself down then announced it with that same excitement, "My submission just got accepted.”

EmberI stood there, heart racing, as Astrid appeared in the doorway. The moment she saw me, her brow furrowed, a frown settling across her face. She clutched her round belly as if it could shield her from whatever she was feeling. There was a tension in the air, with a mix of worry and something else I couldn't quite decipher at that moment.Astrid’s hand paused on the door, ready to slam it shut, but I stepped in her way. Her glare could have burned a hole through me.“What are you doing here?” she shot back.“I’m not here because I want to be,” I said, keeping my voice calm. “If I’d known it was your place, I would’ve turned around. But since I’m here, I need answers. What happened four years ago?”The silence between us was heavy with unspoken words. I could see the conflict in her eyes—anger mixed with something deeper. However I wasn’t about to back down; I needed to know, I didn't came all the way here to be slammed the door upon on, all my prejudice against her was temporarily

EmberI threw two dresses into the mini box, grabbed a few necessities, and finally took my spare toothbrush, just in case. After zipping it up, I carried it out. Lyra was solemnly wiping Kai's body with a wet towel. I exhaled. I can't back away now—I have to go. I walked up to his side and crouched next to him. “Mommy, is that you?” His little fingers landed on my cheeks, and with all my strength, I pressed back my sobs, whispering in a broken voice, “Yes, baby, it's your mommy.” “Lyra said you're going to be back soon.” He took a short pause, blinking rapidly as he stared at my face before eventually asking, “Are you leaving me alone?” “No, baby, I would never do that. The thing is, Mommy has to get you chocolates, a bunch of them.” “I… don’t want chocolates. I only want Mommy.” Streaks of tears ran down my face, and this time I didn’t wipe them off. Instead, I let them flow freely. “I’m sorry, baby… Mommy is really sorry you're going through this. You know what? Mommy

EmberI kept staring at the letter with wide eyed, confused; first I had know idea how this got here, secondly how the heck did the person knew that I wants answers, answers to everything, the gut feeling is gnawing on me, yet I always finds a make believe to rid that thought, just like this letter stated that I wanted answers. But what answers would I probably want? What answers do I really seek? Why can't I say it, why don't I know it. I stared at the address which clearly reads a house in Arizona. Do I really want to do this? Honestly, I have no idea, whatever this is, whatever will come from it, but I folded it and put it back going out of the room to the yard. For some peace and quiet, maybe I could fatten my thoughts and come up with a reasonable plan on how to help my son get better. And maybe I could even go back to Arizona, in contrast to the fact that the man had come all the way from Arizona to Florida to look for me, but since I pushed him away, he definitely must've go

EmberAfter Maverick was gone, I couldn't make sense of what's going on. I washed my face in the bathroom, swinging back my hair to get off the water that drenched it, eventually grabbing a towel and wrapped it around my head like a burrito. Exhaling, I walked out of my room to check Lyra's door which was still very much locked, thus has been on lock since the moment she stormed out of my face in the sitting room.I walked into the sitting room to touch Kai's forehead, he was still burning up, but not as hot as he was when I'd come back. He wasn't supposed to get sick again since Lyra got him the herbs that had kept his condition stabilized since we came back to Florida, so I never have to bother about looking for the man, however hearing the news earlier was not only a blow to me, but it makes me even more panicked. And thankfully, having him around for a few seconds reduces the boy's temperature, however, now I can't really tell for sure because he's a little hot now doesn't mean

Her face turned so pale that I had to calm her down. She wanted me to follow her, which I did without a second thought.
