The silence was different now, the awful, draining emptiness was gone, replaced by a strange, watchful stillness. The air still tasted of ozone and ash, but it no longer stole the strength from their lungs.

It was just… air, thin and cold, but breathable.

The giant creature in the distance was a dark, silent mountain. The Scourge on the rim of the pit sat like strange, broken statues, their faceless heads bowed.

The frantic, sickly green heartbeat of the world had been replaced by the soft, silver glow of the crystal spike, now whole took its place.

Peace. They had won a terrible, costly peace.

Ash got to his feet, ignoring the pain in his knee. He didn’t look at Kael, he couldn’t. He just ran to the centre of the pit, his eyes scanning the fused crystal, the silver veins, the single, impossible flower.

“Liora!” he yelled, his voice raw and desperate, echoing in the vastness.

“LIORA!”

There was no answer, only the gentle, radiant light from the spike.

Kael approached slowly, his st

The Lead Sister’s challenge hung in the air, cold and sharp. Use their friend’s dying breath as a trail into the lion’s den. It wasn’t a choice, it was a last, desperate chance.Liora looked at the Sister’s blank face, then at Kael, who was breathing shallowly, black veins crawling toward his heart, like a bad tattoo. She felt it, the cold, smart pressure of the hunter, coming closer, learning their fear with every second.“Do it,” Liora said, her voice all hard focus. The Lead Sister put the glass compass on Kael’s chest. The swirling black needle snapped straight to his heart then she took Liora’s hand and pushed it to the cold glass.“You are the key,” she said softly. “Turn it.”Liora didn’t reach for cold power. She reached for the link, the terrible pull killing Kael. She focused on it, and instead of fighting, she gave in.The world didn’t tear. It opened up.One moment, the ruined village square. Next, a strange twist, and they stood somewhere else. The air was thin and tasted

The cold of the grey dawn settled deep into their bones. It felt like their fear had come alive. They didn’t run, they stumbled along, hurt, empty and staggered like broken soldiers wounded. The quiet forest was no longer peaceful. It felt like it was holding its breath, waiting for something bad like a terrible disaster.Kael leaned on Ash, his face twisted in pain. The bandage on his hand was soaked, not with red blood, but with a faint, glowing silver that pulsed like a sick light and each pulse made him weaker.“We need to stop,” Elara said softly, almost too small to hear. “He can’t keep going.”Liora, walking just ahead, stopped. Her shoulders were tight, the power inside her trembling and she turned slowly. For a moment, Ash saw not the girl he loved, but something ancient and worn. Her eyes, mixed brown and silver, looked at Kael’s hands.“The knife’s cut,” she whispered. “It didn’t just hurt your skin. It cuts your…It cut part of your future. It’s erasing you slowly, taking y

The Silent Sisters did not throw them into a cell. They were led, their arms held firmly but without anger, through the broken remains of the stronghold. The glowing walls were scarred with black cracks, and the air still buzzed from Liora’s power. The Sisters didn’t speak and their silence was worse than any threat. They were taken back to the garden cavern, the place of glowing trees. It was broken but still standing. Silver streams ran through cracked channels, and some of the light-trees had fallen, their lights fading. The Sisters shoved Ash, Kael, and Elara toward the centre of the room and then moved to the edges, standing silent and watchful. The Lead Sister stood before them. Her face looked calm again, but her tight mouth showed tension. She didn’t look at them. Her gaze was fixed on the silver cocoon holding Liora, which two other Sisters had placed carefully on a flat stone. It looked like a tomb.“The vessel is stable,” the Lead Sister said, her usual dry, businesslike vo

The tunnel inside the mountain was a place of quiet, clean light. The air hummed with a low, almost silent vibration that shook their teeth. After the rotting village and the wild chaos of the other world, this place felt too perfect, too clean like a fancy golden cage, as Ash feared, but without any bars. They moved slowly, their steps quiet on the smooth floor. The tunnel split, but the journal in Elara’s hands pulsed with warmth, clearly, pulling them deeper into the mountain. They passed open rooms with impossible scenes: one with liquid light swirling in the air, another with a Silent Sister standing still, her hands in a basin of light like stars, eyes closed and focused. No one blocked them, no one even saw them. It was the deepest neglect they had ever felt, they were not worth notice or completely invisible, like germs in a clean room. The tunnel at last led to a huge, round room. The walls, floor, and curved roof were made of the same smooth, shining white stuff. Liora was i
