Fredrick’s POV

“I was able to subdue some of them, but the first blast came before I could react properly. It happened too quickly for me to switch up.”

Olpheus looked at her for a moment before his attention returned to me.

“You've done well, men.” I could literally see the wheels in his head turning as he said the words.

He turned toward the healers, looking at each of them sternly. “Give him the best care possible.”

I could tell the healers were trying to do their best, but they were short s

Fredrick’s POVI had expected surprise. I had expected happiness, perhaps even a little disbelief. I hadn't expected her to cry.She stepped forward and threw her arms around me.I caught her immediately, wrapping both arms around her waist and pulling her close. She buried her face against my chest, and I lowered my head, breathing her in.Her familiar scent surrounded me, warm and comforting, settling something deep inside me that I hadn't realised was restless.I tightened my hold on her.“You deserve this, Natalia,” I murmured against her hair. “You deserve so much more than this.”She shook her head against my chest, her arms tightening around me.I drew back just enough to look at her face. Her cheeks were damp, and her eyes were shining, but she was smiling now.I brushed my thumb gently beneath one eye. Then, because I was still a man with a perfectly functioning mind and because having her this close made it difficult to think about anything else, I leaned towards her ear.“H

Frederick’s POVThe head chef’s voice carried across the kitchen, sharp enough and clear, more than enough to make my blood boil before I had even stepped inside fully.“Is this how you intend to work for the rest of your life? Must I stand over you and explain every little thing? Look at those pots! You call that clean? Honestly, I don’t know why His Majesty allows someone like you to remain here.”Natalia said nothing. Her head remained lowered as she continued scrubbing, her movements slower than they should have been. The woman stood over her, talking down to her as though she were nothing, and everyone else in the kitchen continued with their work as if the scene unfolding before them was perfectly normal.I stood in the doorway, watching. My bride was scrubbing pots.My beautiful, precious mate, the woman I had spent the entire day preparing to honour before the whole kingdom, was standing in a kitchen being treated like an insignificant servant.Something ugly stirred in my che

Fredrick’s POVHe didn’t say anything for a long moment, and in that moment I couldn’t bear to look him in the eyes.I had thought of so many things I could say on my way here, but right now no words came to mind.“It’s not your fault.” He said after a while. His words made me look up from the ground and into his eyes. “You couldn’t have been more careful.” Those were not the words I wanted to hear.I wanted him to get mad, scream at me, punish me anything at all. I would have accepted any method he chose to punish me. Anything but this.I shook my head at his words. “Don’t try to let me off the hook, Olpheus,” I said, running a hand through my hair in frustration. “I know you were angry. Heck I would have been too. I brought an enemy into the castle Olpheus. I was deceived and played for a fool. I was careless enough not to notice the signs.”I took a deep breath as I ran my hands through my hair. I couldn’t let it go, and I wasn’t going to allow him let me go either.I looked back a

  • Bonded to the Elf king   I’m sorry

Frederick’s POVI woke before the sun had even risen, the room still wrapped in the quiet darkness of early morning. For a moment, I remained still, listening to the soft rhythm of Natalia’s breathing beside me. She had somehow managed to move closer during the night, leaving no space between us, and the sight of her sleeping so peacefully made it difficult to remember why I had been so determined to get out of bed in the first place. Then I remembered.I had things to attend to, conversations I needed to have, and matters in the kingdom that wouldn't resolve themselves. With a sigh I carefully I shifted beneath the covers, trying to ease myself away without disturbing her.I had barely made it halfway across the bed before an arm tightened around my waist.I stopped.Natalia’s eyes were still closed, but I guess she had noticed my attempt to leave. She pulled me back against her and hugged me tightly to herself."Where do you think you're going?" she mumbled groggily.I looked over

Olpheus’s POVEloise remained quiet for a while after my answer, her fingers tracing idle patterns over the back of my hand. I could tell she was thinking about something, so I remained silent until she said what was on her mind. Then she lifted her head."Is he still in prison?" she asked looking up at me with those beautiful eyes.I looked at her. "No."Her eyebrows rose. "He's not?""No, my love. My father is no longer in prison."She seemed to relax at once, and a small smile spread across her face. "Oh. Thank goodness."I couldn't help studying her, she seemed genuinely relieved."Thank you for telling me," she said, her smile widening.I brushed a strand of hair away from her face. "You don't have to thank me for answering a question.""I know, but I still want to.""Then I suppose I shall have to get used to it."She laughed softly, and I was about to tease her about her habit of thanking me for every little thing when something else came to mind.My smile faded slightly."Eloi

Olpheus’ POV"For trying to run away. For not telling you how I felt. For making decisions without giving you the chance to explain things to me." She continued.I brushed a loose strand of hair away from her face."You were frightened.""That doesn't make it right.""No, but it helps me understand." I pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead. "And if we have to begin again, then we will. As many times as we need to."She closed her eyes briefly, leaning into my touch."I just don't want to hurt you again.""You cannot promise never to hurt me, Eloise. Neither can I promise never to hurt you. We're human, and we will make mistakes." I tilted her chin until she was looking at me again. "But we can promise to talk to each other. We can promise not to let fear make every decision for us."She remained quiet for a moment, seemingly considering my words. Then she whispered, "You make it sound so easy.""It isn't." I gave her a small smile. "But I intend to make it worth the effort."Something
