Alexander’s POV

I was buried in paperwork, trying to escape reality. Every night was torture—going to the bedroom without my mate in it. I sighed deeply, staring at the ink I could no longer focus on.

The night was quiet. Too quiet. Then I heard the flap of wings.

Storm landed on my terrace and shifted, his presence grounding and painful at the same time.

Moments later, Dorrin entered the study. He nodded and sat in the chair in front of me.

I lifted my gaze. He looked hollow. No fire in his eyes, dark circles carved deep from sleepless nights. A mirror of my own reflection.

I poured wine and passed him a glass, taking one for myself.

“One week… Alexander. It’s been one week,” he said quietly, staring at a single point before taking a sip.

“Worst week of my life,” I muttered, drinking like the wine could dull the ache.

“We searched everywhere. Contacted all allies. Involved witches and fae… nothing,” he said, clenching his fists. “It’s like she vanished into the air. No one knows how

.Mira’s POVThe next moment, I exhaled in relief when I woke up alone. So Draven had not been serious when he said he would spend the whole week never leaving my side.My relief was short-lived as the door opened and Draven entered shirtless, wearing only sweatpants and holding a large tray of food.“Breakfast for my queen,” he announced, placing it on the side table and preparing to feed me again.“Good morning,” he mumbled, pecking my lips and taking a porridge bowl and spoon.“Thank you, but you know I can eat by myself,” I said, rolling my eyes slightly. He ignored me, taking a spoonful of porridge and pressing it to my lips.“Nonsense. I love feeding you. Now be a good girl and open your mouth,” he cooed sweetly.I stared at him in surprise. I wanted to rub my eyes. How? When did it happen that the cruel demon king became more like a mother hen, a doting mate?As he fed me, my body betrayed me. Warmth bloomed in my chest despite the fear clawing at my ribs. The bond hummed softl

  • Born to Rule: The Dragon Queen   Chapter 140: Hope Is a Dangerous Thing

Mira’s POV Suddenly, my face lit up as I realised that mating with Draven also had a bright side, as he had promised to remove the magic collar from me after the mating. The thought felt like a secret spark igniting in my chest—dangerous, hopeful, reckless. Hope was a fragile thing, and yet it wrapped itself around my ribs, squeezing until it hurt to breathe. I could feel waves of joy and happiness rolling through the bond—Draven’s feelings—thick, possessive, intoxicating. They washed over me whether I wanted them to or not, blurring the edges of my fear. I had to play my cards right and remind him of his promise. Once the collar was removed, I could flee. Even as joy radiated from me at the thought of being home, guilt coiled low in my stomach. I hated how easily my body betrayed me, how desire dulled my instincts, how part of me wanted to sink into this illusion just a little longer. I exited the bathroom and saw Draven sitting naked on the edge of the bed. I did not

  • Born to Rule: The Dragon Queen   Chapter 139: The Claim

Mira’s POV “I just wanted to look for some water and food before going to sleep,” I lied, forcing a smile onto my lips. “Midnight cravings, you know.” I felt my cheeks heat immediately, shame curling in my stomach. I hated how easily the lie came—and how easily he saw through me anyway. “Oh, then I should assign maids to serve you day and night. I will do that,” he said softly, cupping my cheek and pulling me closer, as if the matter was already settled. “And why are you sleeping here?” he asked. “Aren’t you supposed to sleep in our chambers?” I fidgeted nervously with the edge of my cloak, my fingers clumsy. “It was too late to move. I was tired,” I mumbled quietly. “Then I will move you now. And tomorrow, the maids will move your things,” he laughed, effortless and calm, before lifting me as if I weighed nothing. He carried me bridal-style away. Away from my room. Away from my plan. Away from my freedom. I didn’t protest. I played my role as a good girl, silent

  • Born to Rule: The Dragon Queen   Chapter 138: At the Edge of Escape

Mira's POVI felt antsy and jumpy, trying badly to hide my anxiety and act normal.I was waiting for dawn, the time when the castle became quiet to escape. Each minute dragged painfully slow, my nerves stretched tight like a wire about to snap. I felt watched, even when I knew I was alone.Caren brought me dinner to my chambers and surprisingly started a conversation."My queen, I went first to the king's chambers, but found out that you had not moved yet so I brought you food here", she said placing the tray and serving me food."Today I saw his chambers quite late and was too tired to move so I decided to move tomorrow ", I said inhaling the divine smell of fish and roasted vegetables. My stomach rumbled and I just realised how hungry I was actually. Hunger had become an afterthought these days, drowned by fear and constant tension.Caren was unusually chatty today as she chimed, "The king is so smitten by you. I have not seen him so happy since..."She stopped mid-sentence realisin

  • Born to Rule: The Dragon Queen   Chapter 137: A Beautiful Lie

Mira's POVI hoped not to see Draven again. The thought of his presence alone made my chest feel tight, like invisible fingers were slowly closing around my lungs. I needed distance from him, from his voice, from the way he made everything feel blurred and unstable.I needed to have a clear head before my escape.Every second mattered now, every thought had to stay sharp. One mistake, one hesitation, and I would be trapped here forever. It was already too risky a mission as I had no idea what I would face, no castle floor plan, no idea about the security, the magical protection- I knew nothing, but I needed to break free and Draven clouding my thoughts, twisting the reality, sweatalking me was just too much to handle.Sometimes I wondered if that was his greatest weapon—not claws or magic, but the way he could make doubt seep into my bones, making me question what was real and what was manipulation. But as always what you want the less happened. In the afternoon Caren came, "Your Maje

  • Born to Rule: The Dragon Queen   Chapter 136: The Illusion of Surrender

Mira’s POVI had been tossing and turning all night, but when sunlight streamed through the large window, I knew sleep would no longer come.Caren quietly brought me breakfast and left. I wasn’t in the mood to talk either. I finished every bite of the breakfast Draven had sent—a peace offering of honeyed figs and thick cream, freshly cut fruit, and yoghurt. My stomach felt as heavy as lead, but I kept my expression serene. This was the game: the more I looked like a bird that had stopped beating its wings against the bars, the sooner he would lower his guard. The door creaked on its hinges. I didn’t flinch. I let a small, faint smile touch my lips as Draven entered.“You look tired, Mira,” he said, his voice a low rumble. He crossed the room with the predatory grace of a man who owned everything he looked at.“I feel a bit lightheaded,” I lied, keeping my voice soft and submissive. “Perhaps the excitement of finally… accepting things has taken its toll.”He paused, his green eyes sear
