The air in the room turned heavy, like someone had sucked all the oxygen out and left only this brittle, choking silence. Ethan’s face was still locked in that stunned expression, and for one sharp, delicious second, I felt it—a flicker of real power. I could have gloated if the moment wasn’t so goddamn dire. Cornering him like this, holding something he didn’t know I had… it tasted better than I wanted to admit.

But the feeling slipped away fast.

The raw openness in his eyes shut down like a gate slamming, replaced by something colder, tighter, barely leashed. He didn’t snarl. He didn’t lunge. He just drew in a slow, careful breath and lifted both hands, palms out, in a way that looked completely wrong on him.

“Sophia,” he said, voice low and steady, nothing like the rage from minutes ago. “You need to breathe.”

“Breathe?” I laughed, and it came out jagged and ugly.

Everything I’d been holding back just poured out. “You and Marcus—you staged it, didn’t you? The key, the wolf in the

Sophia's POVEthan looked exactly like the beast I'd always suspected he was. His eyes shone, and it wasn't just the moonlight bouncing off them—it was the savage side he always tried to keep buried, breaking free. He was triggered by a disloyalty I hadn't even acted on yet, and I was trapped not only by his frame physically pinning me down but by this intense energy radiating from him."I wasn't planning to escape," I fibbed, my voice barely a whisper. "I was frightened. I only wanted to know if there was an option to get away if everything fell apart.""Liar," he exhaled, the accusation burning hot near my mouth. "You wipe out messages from my rivals. You scheme ways out. You tease my brother to get back at me. You believe I don't notice the scheme you're running?""It's not some scheme!" The response burst from me, driven by fear that was fast shifting into fury. "You caged me! You flaunted Jessica right in my face! You act like I'm a captive one second and your most prized possess

Chapter 42Sophia's POVI just prayed Ethan wouldn't spot the glow from the phone while I read Victor's message to me.The moon uncovers every truth. Did he know about Ethan and Marcus? Did he know about the ability simmering in my hand, the force I couldn't rein in? Head for the silver door. An exit. A precise, arranged getaway path for the exact instant when things would spiral into total disorder.I erased the message and shut the phone down, my pulse pounding in my chest. I tucked it back under the pillow, the casing now seeming warm against my fingers. Ethan stirred next to me, a soft exhale slipping from his mouth in slumber. Even asleep, his arm draped territorially across my hip.I passed the following day in a heightened state of alertness. Every look, every murmured exchange among pack members seemed charged with meaning. The atmosphere itself had a sharp, electric tang, like the hush right before a bolt of lightning. T

Sophia's POVThe words lingered in the air, connecting us all. They were half-brothers. It suddenly clicked why Ethan had been so hostile toward poor Marcus all along.Ethan appeared to hold Marcus responsible for every bad thing in his life. He likely viewed him as a constant reminder of something he'd rather forget. The one flaw in his parents' story.Ethan looked just as stunned as I felt, his gray eyes bulging under the impact of Marcus's revelation. He'd thrown it out there as a guess, a last-ditch effort to make sense of Ethan's harshness, but Ethan's response wasn't what I'd anticipated—the way he froze completely, in a chilling way, just proved it was real.Ethan didn't push back against it. He shifted his gaze to me."Head inside," he ordered, but I stayed put."Sophia. Right now." This time, laced with his alpha authority.Marcus edged a bit in front of me, a shielding move that only fueled Ethan's fury. "This doesn't alter how you've been treating her, Ethan. It just sheds

Ethan's POVThose words weren't a challenge but a promise, a subtle threat of what Ethan owns, and even Sophia looked stunned by what he had said.It felt like he'd just knocked the wind out of me for a second. I couldn't wrap my head around the absurdity spilling from his mouth as I stared at my brother, my rival from the very beginning. My gaze kept shifting from him to Sophia, who still seemed shocked. They had some kind of agreement. A scheme. While I was sinking in the mess of the bond, they'd been secretly putting together an escape plan for just the two of them, heading off to some perfect getaway. The betrayal hit so hard, delivered so ruthlessly, that it shut down my ability to think straight. The animal inside me surged forward."You..." I muttered, the word coming out as a deep growl. "You've been scheming this. All along. Your training sessions, your hushed talks... it was all building up to this. You were just bidin

Sophia's POV The world didn't pause or crumble into fragments. It simply froze in place. I caught sight of his hands—the very ones that had been woven through my hair just minutes before—now settled on Jessica's hips. I saw his lips, still carrying the flavor of my fury and sorrow, now locked against hers. And I saw his eyes, wide open and fixed right on me from over her shoulder. There wasn't any surprise in them. No remorse. Just a stark, defiant glare. As our gazes connected, his grip around her strengthened, drawing her tighter against him, intensifying the kiss purely for my sake. It was all an act. A cruel, deliberate strike meant to hurt. An odd, freezing composure washed over me. The fire from our recent passion, the bewilderment, the faint wish that perhaps something genuine lurked under all that resentment—it all vanished right then. This was the reality. This was who he truly was. A schemer. A despot. Someon

  • Bound By Blood: The Alpha's Human Mate   Chapter 38

Ethan's POVI left her dozing in my study, all curled up on the couch under the blanket I'd tossed over her. The flavor of her lingered on my mouth, this weird blend of saltiness, wine, and heated giving in. My shirt buttons were all wrong, and my fingers were pale from clenching the doorframe so hard, trying to steady myself. The wolf inside me was calm for now, but the guy in me was still spinning from that intense time we'd just shared. That wasn't making up; it felt more like a truce hammered out with roughness and desire. I had no clue what she'd do when she came to.I headed into my personal office, craving something—anything—to shake off the haze in my mind. Her smell and the thoughts of her were still stuck to me.The door swung open, no knock. Jessica. She came in fast, her gaze instantly picking up on my messy look, the light mark on my lip. Her face showed just the right mix of worry and judgment."Ethan, this is
