The villa lay hushed under the cloak of midnight, guarded by shadows and men loyal enough to die in silence. Inside the master suite, the room was dim, bathed in silver moonlight. Talana rested with her head against Massimo's chest, her breath syncing with his. His arm lay protectively around her waist, as if his touch alone could anchor her to this world, but she was already slipping.

In her dream, Talana stood at the center of an ancient hall that looked like a cathedral built for the damned. The floor was cracked marble, flooded with bloodthat was thick, hot, and endless. Crimson spread in every direction like the veins of the earth had ruptured. She looked down, her feet were bare and soaked. Her white dress, once pure, clung to her body, soaked through with blood.

Before her were bodies—nameless, faceless, yet she knew them. Men who had wronged her. Men who had taken her mother’s light and fed it to the dark. Donatello, Pablo, Maria and yes Drake. Their chests were ripped open, t

The drive from Venice to Catanzaro was conducted in silence. Not the peaceful kind, but the kind that weighed down every heartbeat like ash. Rain streaked the windows of the armored vehicle, washing the residue of fire from their clothes but not from their minds.Talana sat with her arm resting in a makeshift sling, her wounded shoulder wrapped in gauze. Gianna had cleaned and bandaged it as best she could in the back of the van, her hands trembling but precise. Across from her, Massimo sat with his fingers steepled beneath his chin, eyes locked on the encrypted tablet.“Any word from Lorenzo and Mariano?” Talana asked finally.“They’re two hours behind,” Massimo replied. “Took a separate route in case we were followed.”Talana leaned back, letting the thrum of the tires lull her into stillness. But stillness wasn’t peace. Her mind played the Venice chamber again and again, the dead priest’s face, the shattered monitor, Donatello’s mocking voice. When they finally rolled through the w

Venice woke slowly, like a widow rolling over to find her husband’s side of the bed still cold. The city breathed mist through its alleyways, shrouding canals in a silence that felt centuries deep. Gondolas rocked like coffins upon the lagoon, and bells tolled in the distance, each chime sounding more like a warning than a call to prayer.Talana stood atop a rooftop overlooking the southern side of the Arsenale. Dressed still in her Vatican robes, she had stripped away the collar, letting the fabric fall open to reveal the black combat gear beneath. A thin layer of sweat clung to her spine. Her eyes were fixed on the waters below.Beside her, Massimo adjusted the scope on his rifle, scanning the building across the canal. “The entrance is masked behind a false crypt,” he said. “Thermal shows movement inside. Could be guards, or could be worse.”Talana didn’t flinch. “Everything inside that place is worse.”Mariano’s voice buzzed in their earpieces. “We’ve activated the decoy path. Lor

The underground chamber smelled of candle smoke and salt-damp stone. It had once been a crypt, hollowed beneath a forgotten monastery buried in the edge of Venice, but now it was reborn as a war room, a sanctum of shadows and surveillance.Donatello stood before a wall of screens, arms behind his back, the flickering light illuminating his silver hair and the sharp shadows under his eyes. Dozens of monitors streamed hacked footage from every corner of Europe, but only one screen held his gaze, the one centered on the Sanchiano chapel.Talana Fabrizio-Sanchiano stood motionless on the feed, back turned, silhouetted by Roman morning light. The chapel’s sanctity did little to soften the fury wrapped around her frame like a second skin. Donatello didn’t blink. He studied her as though decoding a scripture in blood.“She didn’t cry,” he said quietly.Behind him, the mole in Vatican robes hesitated. He was young, nervous, sweat slicking the collar of his clerical shirt. “No, sir, but the si

“Some ghosts don’t haunt, they bleed.”The underground cell compound, smelled like iron and cold stone. Drake De Marco sat in the shadows of a cell that had no windows, no clocks. The fluorescent light above flickered with indifferent rhythm, painting half his face in artificial blue.Talana stood on the other side of the reinforced glass, arms folded, her expression carved from something older than stone. She said nothing. She didn’t need to.He smirked, eyes bruised but sharp. “You’ve gotten colder. Your mother would’ve cried seeing you like this.”Talana didn’t flinch. “My mother died because of you.”His smile widened. “And yet her blood still keeps you up at night.”Before she could answer, Mariano appeared at her side. “You need to come upstairs. Now.”De Marco leaned forward, eyes glittering. “Let me guess,” he murmured. “The devil has finally come to collect.”Inside the war room of the Sanchiano Villa, the only sound to be heard was the hiss of static. The screen displayed a

“Empires don’t fall overnight. But they can begin to rot in a single heartbeat.”The villa was quiet, too quiet for a city that had just claimed another empire’s corpse.Rain tapped against the tall windows like a clock running out of time. The fires from the sinking yacht still hadn’t left the news cycle, but inside the stone walls of the Sanchiano estate, silence reigned.Talana stood in the war room, a single lamp casting gold over her face, hollowing the shadows beneath her eyes. Her blood-red gown from the gala had been discarded. She wore black slacks, a silk shirt clinging damp to her spine, and her braid had been undone, loose, wild, like the storm outside. The map before her was littered with pins and torn ledger pages, territories once ruled by De Marco, Donatello, and Thorne. Most of them were red now. Burned, broken and claimed. But some weren’t. Some still breathed.Behind her, Massimo watched from the doorway, arms crossed. He didn’t speak. He had been watching her for h

Tyrrhenian Sea was just off the Port of Naples. The yacht was three decks of floating decadence: crystal chandeliers, live string quartet, baccarat tables rimmed with untraceable cash, and enough stolen antiquities to seed a private museum. Silvio Thorne called it a “charity gala.” Everyone on board understood it was an auction for what sins money couldn’t normally buy.Tonight it was also a coffin waiting to close.Talana stepped onto the main deck in a sheath of blood-red silk that clung like danger. The color wasn’t a statement of style; it was a warning. Lights from the bay glanced off her bare shoulders, and every man smart enough to stay alive took one step back without realizing why.Massimo, tuxedo sharp, drifted at her right flank; Lorenzo and Gianna mingled deeper in the crowd, eyes always scanning. Mariano ghosted the perimeter in a bartender’s jacket with a suppressed Beretta tucked in the towel sling. Luca, hidden topside, ran overwatch with a silenced DMR.Beneath the po
