Nicole's Point of View

I begin to stir, stretching slightly beneath the covers, only to find the bed beside me cold and empty. My hand slides across the sheets instinctively, but Drake isn’t there. A quiet sigh escapes my lips as I sit up straighter, rubbing the sleep from my eyes and looking around the room.

My gaze lands on him almost immediately, he’s sitting alone in the armchair by the window, his broad shoulders hunched slightly, lost in thought. The soft gray morning light filters in through the curtains, painting him in muted tones. He looks both present and far away, and my chest tightens with concern.

Without saying a word, I get out of bed, moving towards him. I lower myself onto his lap, curling my legs over one armrest, leaning my back against the other. His arms instantly wrap around me, and he presses a gentle kiss to my cheek.

“Good morning, beautiful,” he murmurs, his voice low and affectionate.

I offer him a small, sleepy smile. “Good morning,” I reply softly. “Is ev

Hazel's Point of ViewThe hum of the bus engine and the steady rhythm of tires on asphalt blends with the chatter of my students, their voices light and filled with excitement. I sit near the front, the afternoon sun casting golden light through the windows, warming my arm where it rests on the edge of my seat. Valerie is beside me, flipping through photos she took on her phone of the students outside the cave, mostly selfies if I had to guess. My gaze drifts out the window, watching the trees blur past, thinking back to that cave and the creature Serina found etched in stone, the red eyes still vivid in my mind. There was power in that cave. Old, buried, whispering through the cracks in the rock. The moment I stepped inside, I felt it. And Serina’s sketch only confirmed it. That figure wasn’t random. It meant something. It remembers something.Valerie nudges me with her elbow, pulling me from the spiral of thoughts. “What’s on your mind?” she asks, voice casual but laced with curiosi

  • Bound By Magic And Moonlight   Chapter 28

Aiden's Point of ViewThe flickering light from the TV paints the room in soft, shifting colors, but I don’t see any of it. I don’t even know what’s playing. It’s just background noise, something to pretend the silence isn’t swallowing me whole. The bourbon bottle in my hand is heavy and warm, the glass slick against my fingers. It’s half-empty, no, half-full. I snort at myself. Either way, it doesn’t take the edge off tonight. The familiar ache of loneliness presses in on all sides. Not the kind you can fix with company, especially not the kind that’s easy to find around here. I made myself a promise: no more pack hookups. It never ends well. I’m not dragging anyone else through this. The bottle lands on the coffee table with a dull thunk. I stare at it for a second, then push off the couch, the weight in my chest sinking lower with every step I take. I don’t even glance at the screen on my way out. Whatever show or movie it was disappears into nothing. The hallway of the packhouse i

  • Bound By Magic And Moonlight   Chapter 27

Hazel's Point of View The cool breath of the cave greets us the moment we step beneath the overhang, that hush of earth and time settling around us like a veil. I pause just short of the entrance, flashlight in hand, and turn to face my group of students. Their faces are lit with anticipation, flashlights clutched like talismans. “Alright,” I say, my voice low but clear, the sound curling and echoing slightly against the stone. “We’ll be going inside the cave now. Get your flashlights ready, and no one wanders off. Are you ready?” A few excited nods of their heads, some murmurs of “Yes,” and the soft clicks of flashlights coming to life. I nod my head in return, take a steadying breath, and turn into the cave, my own light sweeping across the uneven ground and the damp, textured stone of the narrow tunnel. “We’ll make our way to the back of the cave and then work our way back to the front,” I call over my shoulder, the beam of my flashlight illuminating glimmers in the stone, mine

Hazel's Point of View The first thing I feel as I blink awake is energy, light, warm, almost electric. It pulses through me like sunlight, wrapping around my ribs and tugging the corners of my lips into a smile before I’ve even opened my eyes fully. I stretch in bed, the cotton sheets rustling softly beneath me, and for once there’s no heavy ache in my chest, no distant echo of Aiden’s voice, no lingering dream to claw my heart open. I swing my legs over the edge of the bed and rise with purpose. The hardwood floor is cool beneath my feet as I walk to the bathroom, turning on the shower tap and waiting for the water to run hot. Steam begins to curl through the air, fogging the edges of the mirror. I lean over the sink and catch a glimpse of myself. I pause. There’s something… different. No dark shadows beneath my eyes. No tightness in my jaw. I look rested. Grounded. Almost like I’ve peeled back a layer of grief and am breathing fresh air for the first time in weeks. I peel off

  • Bound By Magic And Moonlight   Chapter 25

Aiden's Point of View The air hangs heavy with silence as we stand among the ruins of the training center, dust still clinging to the edges of scorched wood and shattered stone. Julian and Owen step up beside us, both wearing the same grim expression I imagine is mirrored on my own face. There’s nothing left to save here. Just ash, twisted metal, and the lingering echo of something deliberate, targeted. Victoria’s voice breaks the silence. “Let’s head back to my office and figure out where to go from here.” We all nod our heads without a word and fall in behind her as she turns towards the pack house. The path back winds through the trees, the setting sun filtering through the branches above, casting broken shadows across our trail. The forest around us is unnaturally still, no birdsong, no breeze. Just the soft crunch of our boots on the earth. Drake walks beside me, eyes forward, jaw tight. Julian and Owen bring up the rear, saying nothing. I glance back once at the remnants of

  • Bound By Magic And Moonlight   Chapter 24

Aiden's Point of View The moment my phone buzzes in my pocket, a cold weight settles in my gut. I don’t even have to read the screen to know it’s bad. My fingers close around the device, but before I can pull it out, the front door swings open with a rush of energy, and Drake steps in, his face tight with tension. “There’s been another attack,” he says grimly. Mark and I lock eyes and instinctively reach for our phones. The alert is flashing across the screen, another incident, too soon after the last. “We just got it,” I mutter, already bracing myself. “We should go,” Drake continues, voice low but urgent. “Show our support, see what we can do.” I nod my head, stepping forward without hesitation. But Mark moves behind me, ready to follow, and Drake immediately raises a hand to stop him. “Mark, stay. Be with Amelia and Griffin. Aiden and I have this covered.” Mark hesitates. His eyes flick to Amelia, who’s now holding Griffin in her arms, her brow creased with quiet concern. H

  • Bound By Magic And Moonlight   Chapter 23

Aiden's Point of View We’ve been at it all morning, Mark and I crawling around his living room like oversized toddlers, locking cupboards, anchoring furniture, tucking away sharp corners and stray wires. The place smells faintly of calming lavender and baby lotion. In the nursery, I know, Nicole is finishing her masterpiece, she’s been fussing over it for weeks. She walks out of the room now, a proud glow on her face and that unmistakable joy only soon to be mothers radiate. “Okay, we can go get them now. Everything’s ready, even my surprise in the nursery,” she announces, brushing a loose curl from her face. Mark and I share a quick glance, he’s nervous, I can see it in the way his jaw tightens. “Let’s go,” he says, and we head out together, the three of us descending the wide stairs of the pack house, sunlight catching on the banister as we go. Outside, the day is bright, spring warmth mixed with the crisp edge of leftover mountain air. As we make our way to the hospital, I gla

  • Bound By Magic And Moonlight   Chapter 22

Hazel's Point of View Cole and I stroll side by side through the wide, sunlit halls of the university. The chatter of passing students and the faint tapping of footsteps on the polished floors surround us like a soft, familiar hum. He turns his head slightly towards me, his expression easy and bright. "Where would you like to go for lunch?" he asks, his voice casual, like we're old friends even though we've only just begun to get to know each other. I smile, feeling the warmth of the midday sun filtering in through the windows. Without needing to think too hard, I say, "There’s this great café on campus. It’s quiet and the food’s actually really good." Cole mirrors my smile with one of his own, a little spark of eagerness lighting up his face. "Lead the way," he says simply. We walk in comfortable silence after that, the kind that doesn't feel heavy or forced. It’s easy, natural. I steal a few glances at him along the way, how relaxed he seems, how he takes in everything around h
