The door creaked as Astra stepped into her father’s study, and the smell of smoke and dominance hit her nostrils headfirst.

Kael didn’t look up from the map spread across the desk, knife tapping against the wood with slow, rhythmic patience.

“You’re late,” He said flatly.

Astra folded her hands neatly in front of her. “I had to make sure no one followed.”

“Anyone would think you’re doing something worth hiding,” Kael muttered, finally raising his head. His eyes cold, sharp as a blade when they landed on her.

“Report.”

Astra smirked, leaning a shoulder against the wall. “He’s getting worse.”

Kael’s brow lifted. “Darius?”

She nodded. “He barely sleeps. He’s distracted during training. He watches that boy like he’s something precious.” Her voice dripped of disgust. “Pathetic.”

Kael gave a humorless laugh. “Obsession. That’s what happens when power forgets itself.”

“He’s not fit to lead if a weakling can twist his head so easily,” Astra said, circling the desk.

The morning sun hadn’t fully broken the mist when Darius walked into the training ground. His shirt hung loose around his shoulders, sleeves rolled up. The air carried the scent of steel and sweat.“Up,” he said, voice cutting through the fog. “All of you. Circle up.”The warriors jumped to their feet. Wayne stood at the back, half-awake, shirt sticking to his chest. He hadn’t slept since that nightmare, since the healer’s visit, since Darius had stormed out of his room. Now the Alpha’s voice sounded different—colder.Darius’s eyes found him. “Wayne. Front.”Wayne dragged himself forward, chest tight. He stopped a few feet away, avoiding Darius’s stare.“We’re training with intent today,” Darius said. “No pulling punches. You bleed, you learn.”A few of the men smirked. They knew this meant someone would end up flat on their back. Probably him.“Pair him with Kellan,” Darius said, jerking his chin toward one of the bigger wolves.Kellan grinned, flexing his arms. “Alpha, you sure you

The sun had barely risen when Darius called for the healer.Word spread fast across the pack—an Alpha requesting a soul healer was rare, almost unheard of. Wolves whispered as Elaris’s carriage rolled through the gates with the old wood creaking under morning light. She looked nothing like the healers Wayne had seen before. No robe, no staff, just long silver hair braided over one shoulder and eyes so pale they almost glowed. Darius waited for her in the courtyard, arms folded, expression hard but restless. Wayne silently stood beside him, wondering why his heart was beating so fast.Elaris stepped forward, gaze flicking between them, and her calm aura filled the space before she even spoke.“So,” she said softly, “this is the wolf that stirs the air.”Wayne frowned. “I’m not sure what that means.”“You will.” Her tone held no threat, only certainty. “May I?”Darius gave a short nod. “Do what you must.”Elaris moved closer, her bare feet silent on the stone. She stopped in front of

The dream came again, this time with chaotic, endless and with blinding flames. And in the middle of it was a golden wolf, huge and beautiful. It thrashed against chains that burned through its fur as It howled, not in pain, but in fury. The sound shook the air, tore throughWayne’s chest like a scream that wasn’t his.He tried to reach it, to move, but his feet sank into ash. The fire spread faster, licking at his skin. When he tried to call out, his voice vanished into smoke. Then, the wolf’s eyes—bright gold—snapped to him.“You’re late.”Wayne jolted awake with a gasp, with sweat rolling down his skin, soaking sheets twisted around him. His chest heaved as if he’d run for miles, and he didn’t know where he was for a moment. He pressed a hand to his chest. “It’s just a dream,” he whispered, though it didn’t feel like one.Every sound around him felt more heightened. The hum of the night insects outside, the faint drip of water from the wash basin, even the wind brushing past the wa

The council room was clouded with tension.Elders sat around the long oak table, their robes heavy, eyes sharper than claws. The air buzzed with murmurs that stopped only when Darius entered. He didn’t look at any of them , and his focus was so steady it felt uncomfortable.Kael was already standing, voice cutting through the silence. “We can’t ignore this any longer, Alpha. The boy. Wayne? he’s a distraction. Since his arrival, there’s been nothing but unrest. He’s not one of us. He’s a stray you took in out of pity.”Darius moved to the head of the table. “Sit down, Kael.”Kael didn’t. “We’ve seen the way you look at him. The way he follows you around. You’re losing focus, and the pack is noticing. We need an Alpha who leads, not one who—”“Careful,” Darius said, voice dropping low, calm but threatening.Kael’s jaw clenched. “Then tell us, what is he to you? Why risk everything for a boy who’s brought nothing but trouble?”The others shifted uneasily, waiting.Darius leaned forward

Ren hadn’t slept, not properly. And definitely not since that night. The moonlight spilled through the blinds, catching the edge of the empty whiskey glass on his table. He stared at it for what felt like hours with locked jaw and balled hands. The air in his room smelled of rain and regret. He hated that the name still echoed in his head.Wayne.He ran a hand through his hair and muttered, “You’re such a damn fool, Ren.”It had been weeks since he told Wayne to leave. Since he’d watched him walk out of the pack house, eyes wet, voice shaking but proud. Ren thought it would fade and that he’d forget. But he hadn’t.Every time he tried to train, to fight, to focus, it was there. That stupid image of Wayne looking up at him like he’d meant something. Like Ren wasn’t just another wolf afraid to feel.He pressed his thumb and forefinger against his eyes, trying to block it out. But it didn’t work.He saw Wayne laughing again. The way he used to talk too fast, how he tripped over his own w
