Chapter 37

I took a deep breath before speaking, trying to collect my thoughts.

"I met one of your men named Mark," I began. He appeared slightly confused.

"Nicholas, you know I have hundreds of men under my command. Several of them go by the name Mark," he scoffed. "You'll have to be more specific, my friend." It suddenly occurred to me that I should have asked for Mark's last name. Then again, even if I did, he might not know which one I meant. I don't even know the full names of all my employees, so I couldn't blame him for not knowing either.

I thought of a better way to explain the reason for my visit. An idea crossed my mind.

"A friend of mine is in danger, Juarez, and only you can help," I said, my expression serious.

Juarez motioned for one of his men to come closer.

"Bring us a bottle of my strongest liquor," he said before turning his attention back to me.

"You see, Nicholas, any friend of yours is a friend of mine too." He took a long drag from his cigar while I waited for him to say
