ELYSSIA'S POV

I stared at Killian wide-eyed, my fingers trembling against the fresh mark on my neck.

He had claimed me.

The realization sent my thoughts spiralling. I had only wanted his help to escape Darian's arranged bond. I never asked Killian to mark me, let alone make me his mate. Yet he had done it in front of everyone, leaving me with no idea what would happen to my life now.

In less than a second, whispers began to spread through the hall.

KILLIAN'S POVAt 2:13 a.m., my chest caught fire.I was on my feet before I knew I had moved, the chair crashing backwards, my hand clamped over my chest. It felt as though someone had fastened me with a rope and was pulling tightly at my chest. Then the pain turned into something worse.A pull.Violent and desperate, it was dragging me towards the ceiling, towards the second floor, towards one room.My wolf slammed against my ribs.Elyssia.He didn't growl the name this time. He begged it.I left the study and hurried through the corridor, following the strange pull until I reached the guest room where Elyssia had been taken. I pushed the door open without knocking and the door banged against the wall."Elyssia?" I called out.She was lying on top of the covers, still in the red dress she had worn to the ceremony, her hair spilling across the pillow like spilled ink. Her eyes were closed. For one stupid second, I thought she was only asleep. Then I saw her face.It was pale. Too pale

KILLIAN'S POV I watched Elyssia disappear up the staircase, her footsteps gradually fading until she was out of sight. Even after she had gone, I found myself thinking about the scene she had just left behind. She had slapped Mara. It was not that Mara didn't deserve it—she had grabbed Elyssia first after all, like she was the Alpha here. But I hadn't expected Elyssia to react so fiercely. Most people who find themselves in an unfamiliar pack territory, surrounded by strangers, would at least try to avoid attracting attention—Elyssia, on the other hand, seemed determined to challenge anyone who crossed her path. I couldn't help the faint smile that formed on my lips. Claiming her wasn't that bad of a mistake—my life wasn't going to be boring anymore. "Alpha Killian!" Mara sniffed loudly as she called me. My attention slowly drifted back to Mara, who was standing a short distance away, her palm pressed against her reddened cheek. The expression on her face was enough to tell me th

ELYSSIA'S POV The moment the car pulled away from Moonstone Hall, I turned towards Killian, my anger finally finding an outlet. "Why the hell did you do that?" He glanced at me briefly before returning his attention to the road. "Do what?" "Don't you dare pretend you don't know what I'm talking about!" I snapped. "Why did you mark me? What exactly do you want from me?" He let out a low chuckle, seemingly amused by my outburst. "You're quite impatient, aren't you, sweetheart?" "Answer me!" His smile gradually disappeared—then he adjusted his position in the seat before speaking. "Fine," he said flatly. "Since you're so eager to know, I'll tell you." He paused for a second, watching the road. "I came to Moonstone Hall because your family had stolen a shipment worth millions of dollars. I lost a fortune because of that little arrangement, and I wasn't particularly pleased about it." I frowned. "So what does that have to do with me?" "Everything, apparently." He turned to look a

Yet he had done it in front of everyone, leaving me with no idea what would happen to my life now. In less than a second, whispers began to spread through the hall. "Oh my goodness! The Devil of the Black Crescent claimed Elyssia?" "Poor girl. If only she had a wolf, perhaps none of this would have happened." "Does she even understand what it means to be claimed by an Alpha like him?" "I wonder what the Bellroses would do now. This is going to cause a scandal among the founding families." "Imagine escaping one arranged bond only to end up with another man. What a fate!" The words made my stomach twist. I wanted to scream at them to mind their business, but I couldn't find my voice. They were d

KILLIAN'S POV The words had barely left my mouth before the entire hall erupted. "What?" Darian snapped, taking a step towards us. "Have you completely lost your mind, Blackthorne?" I didn't even listen to him because my attention was fixed on the woman standing beside me. Elyssia Bellrose. I had only come for one thing—to see Alaric Bellrose and take revenge for my stolen shipments. But the moment I walked through those doors, a sweet scent caught in my nostrils. Beneath the heavy mixture of expensive perfumes, colognes and the distinct smell of different wolves gathered for the ceremony was something unexpectedly delicate. It reached me before I had even properly taken in the crowd, and for one brief moment, my attention slipped from the business that had brought me there. My head turned, searching for its source, and I traced it to the front of the hall, where, standing at the ceremonial platform in a beautiful red dress with ornaments in her hair, was Elyssia Bellrose. Somet

ELYSSIA'S POV "We first crossed paths through a few business meetings," he said calmly. "One thing led to another, and we eventually became involved." I stared at him. Wh…what!? He was actually going along with it? "Thank you, Moon Goddess," I whispered under my breath. All I knew was that he hadn't exposed me, and for now, that was enough. Darian stepped forward, his face dark with disbelief. "This is absurd. Elyssia, why are you lying? You've never mentioned this man before tonight, and now you're claiming he's your lover?" I looked at him, my lips twisting in irritation. "Why would I lie about something like that?" "Because you're trying to escape this bond!" I scoffed. "Can you hear yourself, Darian?" His jaw tightened. "You agreed to this arrangement, Elyssia. Stop this sick joke!" "Practically, because I had no choice." "Enough!" Father's voice thundered in the hall. Killian's arm suddenly moved down and wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer to his side, and I
