Carolina's POV

I looked into his eyes, searching for the boy I had loved so fiercely, and the man he was becoming—a stranger wrapped in a cloak of secrets.

“Yes,” I breathed, the word escaping my lips before I even had a chance to doubt it. “I’ll stand by you, Craig. Whatever it takes.”

A flicker of relief washed over his face, but I could see the weight of his situation still pressed heavily on him. “Thank you,” he whispered, his voice breaking slightly. “I promise I won’t drag you into the darkness of my past more than necessary. I just need someone who believes in me now.”

I nodded, the gravity of the moment settling in. “Then let’s uncover the truth together. We’ll start by figuring out who this stranger is and how he knows so much about your past. If he has proof, then maybe he can help us confront Zane, or at least warn us about what’s to come.”

Craig’s grip tightened around my hands. “Exactly. But we have to be careful. If Zane figures out that I’m alive—”

For the longest time, I’ve carried this quiet voice inside me, telling me I wasn’t enough—that I was always second, always in Avery’s shadow. I watched her shine so brightly, effortlessly drawing people in, achieving things I only dreamt of, and somehow, I convinced myself that my worth depended on her approval. I thought if I supported her, if I stayed in her orbit, maybe I’d be okay. Maybe I’d be enough by association. But lately, I’ve started to see things differently. It’s like a slow awakening—little moments that pile up until I realize I’ve been living under a false impression. I used to believe that Avery’s success was my success, that my happiness was tied to her happiness. I told myself that my voice didn’t matter as much, that my ideas were secondary. I thought that if I spoke up, I might threaten her or disturb the balance I’d created. But the truth is, I was only dimming my own light. It wasn’t until recently that I truly understood: I don’t need to be second to anyone. I

Avery’s POV My heart raced with each step I took, the fear that Carolina might be in real danger lacing my thoughts. Zane walked ahead, his broad shoulders cutting through the darkness, while Tricia and I fell in closely behind, whispering hurried strategies and scenarios. We gathered the pack in the clearing just outside the lodge, urgency thrumming through our veins. Zane centered us, his authoritative presence commanding attention. “Listen up, everyone,” he began, his voice steady and strong. “Carolina is missing, and we believe she’s in danger. Some clues were found in her room, and we need to act fast. I expect all of you to search the forest thoroughly—listen for any signs of her presence, and keep your eyes sharp for anything out of the ordinary.” The members of the pack nodded, determination etched into their features. A part of me was grateful for the unity, hoping it would lead us to her safe and sound. But the deeper truth gnawed at my gut, feeding my anxiety. Craig w

Craig’s POV I ran a hand through my hair, torn between the accusations stinging in Carolina’s words and the heavy weight of reality hovering over us. “I didn’t choose this, Carolina,” I replied, my voice low but firm. “I didn’t want any of this to happen.” “Yet here we are,” she shot back, her gaze unwavering. “You think hiding in this old hunting lodge will save us? If they find us, it won’t matter if we’ve barricaded the door or not. We need a real plan, Craig—one that goes beyond survival. We need to fight back.” “Your father messed up big time and now you’re the one paying the price. Imagine how Alpha Zane is going to act when he finds out you’re not even dead. And Avery? You think she would come running back to you? She’s happy with Alpha Zane, I can’t believe this even happened.” Carolina continues to vent. I closed my eyes and sighed. “Stop,” I said, cutting her off before her words could wound me further. “You don’t understand.” “Then explain it to me!” Carolina sn

The darkness shuddered violently, tendrils flailing wildly as the creature's form flickered and blurred. A deafening crack echoed through the cathedral as the shadowy mass convulsed, pulling back from the strike, as if wounded—yet still alive, still malevolent.Craig’s chant grew louder, words spilling from his lips in an ancient, guttural tongue. The air thickened with energy, shimmering with arcane power. The rune-etched blade in Zane’s hand pulsed brighter, resonating with Craig’s incantation, creating a shimmering barrier of light around the creature’s core.“Hold the line!” Carolina shouted, her voice cutting through the chaos. She backed away slightly, ready to defend her companions from any further assault. The creature’s eyes burned brighter, now furious and desperate. Tendrils of shadow snapped and lashed outward, trying to engulf everything in darkness once more. But the barrier held firm, shimmering with an unearthly glow.Suddenly, the Keeper’s voice echoed in their minds,
