Celeste sat by her window. She looked really tired. Like she hadn't slept in days and days.

Her hands were shaking a little bit. She kept staring at them like they weren't really hers.

"I have to do something," she whispered to nobody. "I have to fix what I broke."

She thought about all the bad things that happened. How she helped Darius try to bring people back from the dead. How that made a big rip in the world. How dark scary things started coming through that rip.

It was all her fault. At least that's what she kept telling herself.

Down the hall she could hear Elara coughing. She'd been sick a lot lately. Probably because of the baby. Celeste felt even worse when she heard it.

Elara was gonna have a baby and the world wasn't safe anymore. Because of what Celeste did.

She had to fix it.

Celeste knew about the Shadowlands. Everyone knew about them but nobody talked about them much. It was the place where dead people went. Where spirits lived. Where really bad things happened to peop

  • Bound by Blood, Fated to the Two Alphas    Chapter 131

ELARA'S POVTonight there wasn't much wind. I tugged my cloak around me and settled against this big oak tree. Everything was quiet, but not the kind of quiet that made you nervous. Actually quiet. Peaceful.God, I couldn't remember the last time anything felt peaceful.Ronan was sitting next to me. His sword was just laying across his legs - he wasn't messing with it or anything. Just staring off somewhere. Kael took the other side. His hands were in his lap and he was breathing all slow and steady. We weren't talking. Didn't really need to, you know? Sometimes after you've been through hell with people, words just get in the way.The moon was huge tonight. Made everything look all silvery and weird. Like maybe we were dreaming or something. Honestly, these last few months have been so messed up that nice moments like this felt fake.I moved around trying to get comfortable. My body's been doing all sorts of weird stuff lately and my back was killing me. When I shifted, I felt somet

ELARA'S POVAsleep when it began. Except it was not ordinary sleep. It wasn't ordinary sleep at least; it felt like something was pulling me very far away. One moment, I was lying in my bed. Next, I was standing in a place that I didn't even recognize.Everything was white and shiny. It was like being inside a giant pearl or something. The ground under my feet felt soft, but I had no idea what it was. But when I looked above, I could only see light. So much light."Elara."I turned around fast. Three ladies were standing there. But they weren't regular ladies. They were see-through and glowing. Their clothes moved even though there was no wind. Their eyes were the color of moonbeams."Who are you?" I asked. My voice sounded weird in this place. Like an echo but not really."We are the Moon's first daughters," the middle one said. "We have watched over the chosen ones since time began."The chosen ones. That meant me I guess."Why am I here?" I asked."You stand at a crossroads child,"

RONAN'S POV The temple was really cold tonight. I could see my breath when I walked in. Like little puffs of smoke.Nobody else was there. Just me and all the old stones and stuff.I wasn't supposed to be here this late but I couldn't sleep. My brain wouldn't stop thinking about Elara. About how sad she looked when Kael walked away. About everything that happened today. My shoes made loud sounds on the floor. Echo. Echo. Echo. Like the temple was saying something back to me.I saw this door I never went through before. It was behind the big stone table where they do ceremonies. The door was open a tiny bit. Maybe someone forgot to close it all the way.I pushed it and it made a really loud creak sound.Inside was super dusty. It made my nose tickle. There were lots of shelves with old books and papers rolled up. Some looked so old they might break if you touched them. But then I saw something weird.A rolled up paper sitting on a table by itself. It looked different. Not as old as th

KAEL'S POV“You think I don’t see what’s going on?”My voice came out sharper than I planned it should. It cut the air in half.Ronan stopped walking. I saw the way his shoulders went stiff. He didn’t turn right away. The training grounds were empty now. Just us. Nothing moving except the wind in the trees and the small flowers around. When he finally faced me, there was no surprise in his eyes. “What do you think you see?”he asked.“Don’t do that.” I stepped closer, my hands already curling into fists. “Don’t act like you don’t know. I see the way she looks at you now. And the way you look at her.”The wind carried a sound through the leaves. Almost like whispers. Like the whole place was holding its breath.Ronan’s jaw went tight. “She’s not the same, Kael. We both know it.”“She’s confused,” I snapped back. “After everything, she doesn’t know what she wants.”“Doesn’t she?” he asked againHe kept staring at me with those confused eyes. “From here, it looks like she knows what she w

Celeste's ReturnI went outside that morning. Something felt wrong inside of me. The air was heavy, it was like before a storm was about coming. My feet took me to the garden. I don't know why, I went towards that direction. I just walked there. Then I saw her.She stood by the old rose bush. Her back was to me. But I knew it was her. I knew that shape. Those shoulders. That hair."Celeste?"I said it so quietly. Maybe I didn't really say it at all.She turned around slow.I stepped back fast. My heart went crazy. This was not real. Celeste was dead. I held her when she died, I touched her, I….. I knew her heart stopped working. I felt her stop breathing. But there she was. Looking at me with those green eyes. The same eyes, that slowly closed before me. But different too. They were bright. Like water in sunlight."Hi Elara."Her voice was hers but not hers. It made my skin feel funny. Like when you hear a song you love but can't remember where from. Or was it an illusion playing in
