Ronan sat on the edge of his bed, a file clutched in his hand, its crisp pages untouched. His mind was far from the intricate details of the Pack's governance. It was consumed by Elara.

Despite her betrayal, the inexplicable actions that had shattered their fragile bond, he couldn't shake the image of her from his mind.

The question. 'Why?' echoed relentlessly in the chambers of his heart. He had wondered why she would keep such a secret from him, why would she lie? What exactly was she hiding and what more could she have been hiding from him?

His beta, Theron, entered his chambers, breaking through Ronan's reverie. "Alpha," Theorn announced in a respectful firm tone. "The meeting is in thirty minutes."

"Oh?" Ronan murmured, his tone flat, devoid of its usual commanding tone. I'll be there shortly."

"Okay Sire." Theorn bowed and then departed, leaving Ronan alone with his turbulent thoughts. He rose from his bed and looked into the mirror. What he saw made his anger f
