Chapter 44 — Lily or Gabrielle

Lucian’s POV

Giovanni was about to head inside when my phone buzzed.

I pulled it from my pocket and checked the message. It was from Marco.

“Where the hell are you? You forgot our meeting.”

I cursed under my breath.

Giovanni raised a brow. “Is there a problem?”

“It's Marco. We had a strategy meeting at the border camp. I forgot.”

He nodded slowly. “You should go. He’s probably already pacing.”

“Yeah.” I slipped the phone back into my coat. “I won’t be long.”

As I turned to leave, Giovanni called out, “Don’t worry about her.”

I paused, then nodded once. “I’m not.”

But I was.

And I would be.

The ride down the hill was fast and rough. The sky was bleeding orange at the edges when I reached the meeting point near the forest checkpoint.

Marco was pacing by his jeep, a cigarette hanging from his mouth, his hands shoved in his jacket pockets. The moment he saw me, he threw the cigarette away and walked up, frowning.
