Kendall’s POV

As I slowly blinked my eyes open, the grogginess of sleep clinging to my mind like cobwebs, I realized something was wrong. My surroundings were unfamiliar, the room illuminated in soft light that did little to stop my unease.

I tried to sit up, my muscles protesting with every movement, but something held me back. Glancing down, I realized I was in a bed, the sheets soft against my skin. Panic clawed at the edges of my consciousness as I struggled to make sense of what was happening.

And then I heard footsteps approaching, the sound echoing in the silence of the room like a thunderclap. Fear gripped me quickly as I braced myself for whatever awaited me on the other side of the door.

But when the door creaked open, revealing a woman with warm eyes and a gentle smile, my fears began to ebb away. She carried a tray of food, the aroma floating towards me from where she paused.
