"It’s cold outside," Harry adds, rubbing the back of his neck. "You don’t wanna freeze your toes off while throwin’ punches."

I nod, biting back a laugh. "I appreciate that."

I wonder how he and Aiden are even friends. He’s like the total opposite of Aiden, who always drags me outside to “build mental toughness.” I roll my eyes internally at the memory. Harry is... considerate.

Greystone. I never really gave that name a second thought—until now.

I’m in class, physically, but my mind is nowhere near here. I’m stuck in a loop of worry and nerves. The fight’s in three days. My stomach knots every time I think about it. The girl I’m up against—anyone who asks me about the match looks at me like I’m already doomed.

I hadn’t even heard of her until yesterday, but now it feels like I’m hearing her name everywhere—in passing convos, whispered at lockers. It’s like she’s haunting me.

AstridThere’s only one solution. Call my mom.Nervousness wraps its claws around me as I pick up my phone. The first call goes through with no answer, and honestly, I’m not surprised. My mom is what I like to think of as busy and selective. I dial again. The phone rings twice before she picks up.“Ashley,” she says — tired, a bit irritated too. No hi, no how are you. I wasn’t expecting her to, anyway.I sigh. “Good evening, Mom.”“Look, I’m busy right now. I’m about to head to dinner with some investors. I believe you’re calling on a serious note?”“…Coach made an impromptu trial match. It’s me against someone named Greystone… it’s in four days, and I don’t think I’m ready, Mom.”“Already? That’s such short notice.” She sounds bored — I can almost imagine her rolling her eyes.“If I lose, I get kicked out of the academy,” I add.A pregnant, angry silence follows. I hear the click of her heels before she lets out a sharp breath.“This is on you, Astrid,” she says coldly. “How many tim

Astrid The low whines from my head grow into something more feral. My wolf grows more aggressive as the minutes grow, her patience thinning—and so does mine. It's okay that Aiden doesn't want me as his mate, but I can't stand it when he's flirting with Hailey in front of me. I dig my nails deeper into my palm, trying to hold myself from ripping them away from each other. My jaw clenches, my vision fogs from how hard I've been glaring. Could there be anything like extremely bad timing? Aiden eventually puts her down, and I blink. "Fuck you, Aiden," Hailey huffs, her eyes clearly saying something else. "Me? Or your old roommate?" — his words trail off when Hailey kicks his shin. "Fine! Sorry, what was that bloody for?" he whimpers, rubbing his knee. Hailey’s eyes narrow my way and he smirks. "I'll fucking kick you again if you don't shut up." "Ah, you're using the word again. Miss her that much?" Hailey huffs. "I don't do clingy, Aiden. Especially the entitled lot,"

Astrid The Hall of Fame Wing is quiet when I arrive. It is along a wide corridor, lined with golden plaques and framed portraits of past warriors, alphas, and trailblazers. Faces frozen in time, immortalized by titles and glory. Students come here, gazing through history to feel inspired. I'm here for something else. It’s like an addiction—my newfound quest to solve this mystery. It’s like an obsession. I haven’t slept much. That photo. That face from the photo still drifts through my mind, like a ghost in the fall of my dreams. Nothing about two nights ago makes sense. People don’t just go missing. And it doesn’t help either that I awake to the feeling of unease every damn morning, and it clings to me, sitting heavily in my chest like unfinished sentences. Why the secrets? My unanswered questions blossom into more than curiosity. I am curious, but there’s anger in the mix. I will find answers. That’s why I’m here. I let my fingers brush over a polished trophy case. T

Aiden’s POV"Meet me at the training ground by eight. Put on black," I say, not slowing my pace. The click of my boots follows me down the corridor, each step echoing like a warning. I don’t bother looking back. Whatever she’s plotting in the East Wing has nothing to do with me. I’m not here to play sidekick in a game of secrets.I’m here because silence has a price. And if this keeps her lips sealed? Then fine. It’s repayment. Nothing more. ~~~“Still getting into trouble, kid? I don’t think your uncle would be thrilled.” The voice at the other end of the line sighs.I tilt my head back against the chair, lips tugging into a half-smile. “ Not much to be thrilled about.”A dry chuckle hums through the line, but Beta Ronan doesn’t bite.“ He does care, even if he’s shite at showing it.”My jaw tenses. My eyes narrow. “Does he now?”“Of course he does. What’s made you think otherwise?”I click my tongue.“I dunno… maybe start with the way he’s constantly breathing d

Astrid The walk back is quiet. Aiden doesn't speak, and I don't try to fill in the silence. It's better this way. The night air is cool against my skin, wrapping around me like the fog still clinging to my thoughts. Moonlight spills across the academic grounds, painting the gray walls in silver, the grass gray beneath our feet, the scent of pine lingering from the trees around us. Every one of Aiden's steps matches mine—not rushed, just steady. Cautious, but steady. Present is what I would call it. He walks close, like he’s making sure I make it all the way, even though I’m fine now. Even though I was pretending to be okay. When we reach the girls' dormitory, I expect him to turn left and head to his dormitory. He doesn’t. “Really, Aiden?” I say through an exasperated huff. A small smirk tilts his lips, and he shrugs, moving past me as he makes his way through the silent hallway like he owns it. It makes me wonder how many times he’s done this. “So now we’re speaking si
