The Council chamber was suffocating with tension. The high, vaulted ceiling offered little comfort, its timber beams echoing every murmured word. Alphans, elders, and advisers sat in a near-circle, their eyes flicking constantly between the Crescent Fang delegation and the new Alpha of Ironshade, Kalen Draven.

Even with decades of experience, the Council sensed something dangerous in the room—something more than political maneuvering, more than old rivalries reawakened.

“Did you see how the girl moved?” one elder muttered under her breath. Her voice was thin, sharp, carrying the authority of someone used to being listened to. “Eira Thornwind—she isn’t just any daughter of an Alpha. That wolf beneath her skin… it is unlike anything I’ve felt in a generation.”

Another councilman leaned forward, fingers drumming against the polished table. “And Draven—the Ironshade Alpha. Watch him. Every time she shifts even slightly, his wolf reacts. That’s not normal. If what I suspect is correct…”

Morning light leaked through the tall lodge windows, soft and annoyingly cheerful. Eira sat at the long dining table in Crescent Fang’s private quarters, pushing a fork through her breakfast without actually eating. Her wolf paced restlessly beneath her skin—silent, but alert. Watching. Waiting. She hated how easily she could guess what it was waiting for. Or rather, who. “Okay,” Lyra said, sliding into the chair beside her with a mug of coffee and an expression far too observant for this early in the day. “You’re either sick, guilty, or thinking about a man. And considering you’ve never been sick a day in your life and you looked downright serene after last night’s Council mess, I’m going with option three.” Eira groaned, dropping her forehead onto her arms. “I hate you.” Lyra snorted. “You love me and you know it. Now tell me whose fault it is that you’re stabbing perfectly innocent eggs.” Eira sat up, cheeks heating in a way she despised. “It’s not— I mean, nothing happened.”

  • Bound in Silver Flames   CHAPTER 36 — KALEN

The first light of dawn crept across the Summit grounds, casting long, golden streaks over the training areas and the paths that wound between the pack halls. Kalen stood at the edge of the grounds, boots planted firmly on the earth, letting his gaze sweep across the waking scene. Warriors warmed up, Bata ran drills, and aides began their rounds. It was orderly, predictable—a stark contrast to the coil of fire twisting through his chest. Eira. The memory of her in the forest last night played on a loop he couldn’t silence. Her cautious eyes, the soft flicker of her wolf beneath the skin, the way she moved—graceful, controlled, yet wild. He could still feel the pull between them, subtle and undeniable, like a silver thread tugging him forward. The wolf beneath his skin pressed insistently, twisting, growling low in his chest, whispering the single word he hadn’t dared say aloud: mate. Kalen ran a hand through his hair, jaw tightening. Control. He forced the coil of instinct down, pr

  • Bound in Silver Flames   CHAPTER 35 — EIRA

The forest was quiet now, only the soft rustle of leaves and the distant whisper of the river breaking the stillness. Eira slowed her run, letting her breath settle, though her chest still beat faster than it should. Her thoughts were tangled, circling back to him—Kalen Draven. His presence lingered, the memory of his voice, the intensity in his eyes, and that low, deliberate growl of his wolf pressing against him, even in restraint. Mate. The word had reverberated through her senses, subtle, almost a whisper, but impossible to ignore. Her own wolf stirred, coiling beneath her skin, silver fire flaring in response. Veyla was impatient, insistent, aware of every pulse, every heartbeat he had left behind. Eira clenched her fists, forcing the fire down, reminding herself of control, of duty, of everything she had trained to uphold. And yet… she couldn’t ignore the thread between them, the undeniable pull that had started forming the moment they met eyes in the forest, weeks ago. And n

  • Bound in Silver Flames   CHAPTER 34 — KALEN

The forest was quiet, moonlight slanting through the trees, painting silver streaks across the mossy ground. Kalen’s boots made barely a sound as he watched Eira retreat down the path, the soft rhythm of her steps pulling at him like a thread he couldn’t ignore. His wolf growled low in his chest, impatient, restless, and urgent. Follow. Claim. Speak. His wolf demanded. Kalen clenched his fists, trying to force the wolf back under restraint. Control. Always control. But lately that control has been slipping, particularly in her presence. He hesitated, the words forming, nearly escaping. He shouldn’t. The stakes were high. The Summit. Their packs. The rules that governed Alphas and daughters of Alphas alike. But the pull—the thread that had started coiling around him the moment he saw her last night—was too strong. “Eira,” he called softly, careful not to startle her. She paused mid-step, glancing over her shoulder with caution, the moonlight catching the silver sheen in her hair

The forest was almost silent, save for the soft whisper of wind through the pines and the steady rhythm of her boots against the mossy earth. Eira pushed herself harder, needing the movement, needing to burn off the tension that had coiled in her chest since the day’s Summit meetings. Sleep was impossible—not with her mind racing, not with Kalen’s presence lingering like a phantom at the edges of her thoughts. The moon hung high, casting silver light across the trail. She slowed briefly at a bend in the path, glancing around. The forest was empty—or so she thought. “Eira.” The voice was soft, familiar, and her chest tightened at the sound. She turned sharply, heart hammering, and there he was: Kalen Draven, standing just ahead on the path, framed in moonlight, still in his Alpha poise, still utterly magnetic. She froze. “You… shouldn’t be out here,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady, though her pulse betrayed her. “Neither should you,” he replied quietly, his gaze flickin

  • Bound in Silver Flames   Chapter 32 - Eira

The hallway outside the council chamber felt colder than it should have—too sharp, too quiet, as though the air itself was holding its breath. Eira walked quickly, her father and the Crescent Fang delegation falling into step around her, but she barely heard their murmured conversations. All she could hear was the echo of the question her father had thrown across the table. “Would a mating bond between Crescent Fang and Ironshade alter the treaty?” The room had gone silent. Her wolf had gone still. And Kalen—Kalen had kept his expression unreadable, but she had felt the way his wolf lunged toward hers like a shadow pulled by a gravity neither of them controlled. Now, outside the suffocating chamber, the weight of that moment hadn’t lessened. If anything, it pressed harder against her ribs. Her father walked beside her, face carefully neutral, but she could feel his eyes flicking toward her, measuring her silence. Jasper hovered behind them, tense and watchful, as though expecti
