Aaron’s POV

Something was off. The office smelled unusually empty without the aroma of vanilla and coffee lingering in the air. The office was dark because the window blinds were untouched. I stood in the doorway, remembering one morning she had arrived early, rearranging the items on my desk in focus mode, whispering that my system was designed by an insane man. She almost caught me laughing.

Aaron’s POVSomething was off. I stepped back outside of the office to check on Lily. The chair and desk were empty. “She hasn’t resumed work yet, sir,” I heard a voice behind me, and I turned. Alex was standing with an office folder in his hands. Lily used to come in very early, but since the night at Creg’s birthday party, things had changed about her, and she had never resumed this late before. Maybe I was too strict when I warned her about dancing with strangers. Is she quitting the job unannounced? These thoughts tightened my chest for a reason I could not understand. She was just an assistant. Easily replaceable. T

  • Bounded By The Brother    CHAPTER 13

Lily’s POV The security light from outside stretched through the window across my ceiling as I lay awake on my bed. For the past fifteen minutes I had been battling with my head for sleep to come.I turned to my side again, gripping the blanket tighter around my body. It felt too warm. I let it go.Sleep refused to come. Dorian Vale. Aaron Vale. The two names pressed my mind like a weight unmovable. Every time I closed my eyes Aaron's face popped up with that cold expression. Then Dorian's smirk would appear a moment after. The same jawline. The same piercing stare. Why didn't I notice all this before? Maybe because Aaron dyed his hair white that made him look so different from Dorian.I tried to connect the dots. How did I end up in the grasp of two brothers? I pushed the blanket down to my legs then sat right up on the bed, resting my back on the headboard. My phone laid on the nightstand and I reached for it. I clicked on the browser. My thumb hovered on the keyboard for a

Lily's POVI exhaled then excused myself to the long counter where some bar stools lined up in front to get myself some wine. I sat on one of the stools, then ordered a drink. “You look like you are hiding.”I turned my head toward the direction of the voice. Creg, the celebrant pulled up beside me in a tailored black suit. He left the white shirt beneath open at the collar, with a golden watch wrapped loosely around his wrist. “No. I’m not,” I said as the bartender sat my glass of wine on the counter. Creg moved his eyes around my body for a while then nodded at the dance floor where a few couples were already dancing. “Dance with me,” he said, smiling. My eyes blinked. “No,” I responded. His eyebrows lifted a bit, amused with my answer. “No?”“You saw me come in with my boss earlier. I don’t think he will like me dancing with you.”He chuckled loudly. “Your boss.”“Yes. My boss.”“Does Aaron own your body too?”“That’s not what I mean,” I said, frowning. “Then what do you

Aaron’s POV Through half-closed eyes, I stared into the screen of my phone. It was 7 a.m. I pulled the blanket off my body and got down from the bed before finding the way to the kitchen. I poured myself a glass of water. Before leaving, my eyes caught the entrance of the dining room at a corner. The door was partly opened, and rays of light escaped from the inside. I moved closer, and I heard the sound of paper flipping. At the entrance, I paused. Lily was there, sitting at the head of the table. Multiple papers lay overlapped on the table. She had the other end of the pen in her teeth as if navigating through confusion, while her gaze was fixed on the papers. I hadn’t noticed her wavy, natural hair pattern until now. Ever since she resumed two weeks ago, no worker arrived earlier than Lily unless they wanted something. Yet, she sat there, buried in those papers like her life depended on it. She hadn’t realized I was there until the door I rested on suddenly moved and creaked.

Lily’s POVOne week later As I got out of the vehicle, I took a deep breath. Three interviews today, three rejections. I was starting to feel as if I wasn't good enough for the job. Something strange cut my eyes the moment I stepped into my lawn. Three vehicles were parked in front of my front door. A box truck among them. Some men in brown uniforms were unloading items onto the grass. I squinted my eyes to see a text written on their backs. Blue Wave Interior Decor. “What are you doing?” I asked. They halted and glanced at me for a moment before continuing with the unloading. I hadn’t called for the service of any interior decoration company. With a frown on my face, my legs moved at a quick pace past the vehicles to see my front door. It was open. Sounds of people and equipment were clearly audible from the inside. I slowed down at the entrance before peeping inside. A new set of couches lay on adjacent sides of the room. A flower vase sat on the center table. All of the guys

Aaron's POV “Is that the last girl?” I asked, turning my head toward the worker who stood beside me in the office. He gestured his hands toward the door. “There is still one outside, but I'm not sure you will like her,” he responded. “Why?” I asked.“She's not like the other girls,” he replied. “Do you want me to bring her?” he asked. I nodded, lighting a cigarette in my mouth. He left to call her. The door creaked open, but I couldn't see the figure from where I sat because the office was dimly lit. That was how I liked it. She moved closer. Her blue jeans caught my eyes first. I almost choked on my cigarette with the way she suddenly staggered multiple times backward. What's wrong? Do I seem like a tiger? “What are you doing?” I said, letting go of the smoke that filled my mouth. I placed my leg down from the desk before moving closer to her as she pressed her back against the door. I looked closely into her. Really closely. Unlike the other girls, her face was empty. No
