Adrien's POV:

Kieran’s head rested to one side, eyes closed, lips still tinted purple. The sirens screamed overhead, but all I could hear was my own heartbeat pounding in my ears. The medic pressed gauze to his wrist, muttering vitals, adjusting monitors.

“Kieran,” I whispered, gripping his cold hand, “don’t you dare leave me. Not like this.”

His body didn’t flinch. Not even a twitch.

I leaned close, pressing my forehead to his. “You are not alone. Not now. Not ever. You hear me?”

But there was no answer. Just the machine beeping.

When we reached the hospital, everything happened too fast. Doctors flooded in, wheeled him away on the stretcher, and I chased after them, only to be stopped right outside the operating room.

“You can’t come in,” a nurse said, stepping in front of me.

“I am not leaving him,” I snapped.
