Chapter Fourteen

She grinned at their compliments as they devoured the mountains of food she had prepared when it was all gone she jumped up and sat on the kitchen counter nibbling at a piece of bacon and a slice of fresh bread spread liberally with butter. The Capos mopped up every last scrap praising and teasing her telling her they would tell the Pakhan he was to keep her locked in the kitchen from now on. Jumping down from the counter she winced at a pain in her ribs but began to clear everything away putting the plates and cutlery in the huge industrial dishwasher. As the Capos left they kissed the top of her head gently or gave her a quick hug which made her wince again but she did not stop them she knew they did not mean to hurt her. They thought it was worth risking the Pakhan’s wrath just to hear her sweet giggle as she wiped down the counters and tables shooing them out to their work.
