Chapter 5| Manipulating Her

Am I really crazy in love with this man?

"Are you okay?"

I blinked my eyes a couple of times when I realized I was zoning out. I lightly pushed his hand away from my chest and averted his gaze.

"Ah-yes-I'm okay. I am just---little confused," I answered truthfully and looked at him once again as if I was analyzing his face if he can be fully trusted.

I quickly held my head when I felt it was aching. I hissed and shut my eyes in pain.

"Ma'am? Ma'am? Tell me what you feel?" I heard the doctor ask.

I looked at him and shook my head as if I was trying to say that everything was fine.

"My head got hurt when I tried to remember everything," I answered and glanced in the direction of the golden-eyed man.

"Well, don't push yourself to remember everything. Do you understand?"

I don't know but, I felt a rush of fear enveloping my chest. The way he said those words were demanding and authoritative. It looks like if you refuse to do what he said, you will never know where your body will be found the next day.

I secretly gulped.

"Since she's already awake, I will go to take her in our pack."

"Wait, Alpha Vincent! The patient needs to be here for one more week for observation," the doctor interrupted, and he looked at me emphatically.

I could see the whole being of the doctor shaken when the golden eyed man that he called Alpha Vincent shot him a glare.

"Are you disobeying me?" he asked with his venomous tone and intense glare.

The doctor quickly kneeled on the floor, and he kept on bowing his head. His eyes were shut in fear.

"I-I'm...I'm sorry Alpha Vincent... T-the patient will be discharged today," the doctor said as the sweat forming in his temple rolled down to his neck.

Alpha Vincent stared at the doctor for one more minute before he sighed in contentment.

"She should be. Prepare her discharge paper in a minute or else..."

"Yes, Alpha Vincent! We will process it now, asap," the doctor replied.

Alpha Vincent took a glance at me before he finally left the room in satisfaction.

The nurse helped the doctor to stand up.

"Are you okay, Doc?"

"That Alpha hasn't changed," he stuttered.

The doctor glanced at me, and I saw he was looking at me in pity.

I couldn't help but my forehead creased.

Why? Why was he looking at me like that?

I asked at the back of my head.

"Nurse, kindly process her papers," all the doctor said before he left the room.

***

Just after fifteen minutes, I was already discharged from the hospital. The one who paid the hospital bills was the man beside me, sitting comfortably in his Lamborghini, no other than Alpha Vicent Miller.

I glanced at him, and I saw he was looking outside the window, minding his own business while smoking.

When I inhaled the smoke, I coughed hard and even slapped my chest to ease the pain. He quickly looked in my direction, and I saw how his forehead creased in annoyance.

"Tsk!" he hissed and clicked his tongue. He brushed his brown wavy short hair using his free hand and tilted his head from left to right--as if he was trying to calm down his senses.

I panicked at the expression I saw on his face. I tried to suppress my cough but it hurt my chest and throat so much. I didn't have a choice but to cough again until I felt relieved.

"Fuck," he muttered under his breath.

"What a bitch," he added. Instead of being bothered because I was coughing due to his cigar, he continued smoking, not minding I was having a hard time.

Is he really my mate? Did I really love this kind of man? He didn't care even a little.

I saw him glance at me as if he heard what I was thinking about. I quickly zipped my mouth, and I got uneasy.

He couldn't read my mind, right?

I asked at the back of my head and peek in his direction. When I saw his raging golden eyes staring at mine, I looked back again at the road.

"I-I'm sorry..." I apologized. I didn't know if it was necessary to say sorry because I coughed but, the way he looked at me made me feel the urge to say those words--made me feel I was the one who made a mistake even if it wasn't.

After he heard what I said, he looked at the driver of this expensive car.

"Beta Ivan, drive faster," all he said, totally ignoring me.

He looked outside the window and continued smoking like what he did earlier, minding his own business as if I didn't exist.

I couldn't help but sigh in disappointment.

He said I am in love with him. It seemed it was hard to love this guy, and I wondered what I did before every time I was with him.

Did I say sweet stuff when he was near? Like, saying I love you? Saying I miss you? Cook him breakfast? Sing him a song?

I wanted to remember everything.

I wonder what this cold-blooded Alpha looks like when he smiles. He was always wearing a long face. I had never seen him smiling genuinely towards me after I woke up.

Was our relationship shaky before I got in an accident?

When I found no answer to all the questions running inside my head, I slowly shook my head, and stared outside the window, watching the trees and falling leaves dancing because of the strong blow of the wind. Beautiful butterflies wandering around. I was just waiting for this car to stop and see what kind of home I have with this man.

***

After one hour of the trip, the car entered a village. As we entered the gate, everyone stopped what they were doing, and bowed their heads, respecting the man inside this car.

I looked at Vincent, and I saw he didn't give a glance at the people who showed respect to him. His eyes were looking straight on the road.

One more drive, the car stopped in front of the huge white mansion. Ivan got out of the car and opened the door for Vincent.

Ivan did the same to me.

When our eyes met, I promised, those intense ocean blue eyes screamed something.

"What are you doing? Seducing my Beta? Wake up, slut. My Beta has standards."

My staring contest with Ivan was interrupted when Vincent spoke. Admit it or not, I got hurt at what he said.

I just ignored it and let it pass since I didn't know how to react. The dominance that Vincent showed to me made me feel uneasy. As if the way he reacted toward me, he was saying I should be submissive and obey him all the time.

I silently followed him when he entered the mansion. Like what I saw outside the village, all the workers inside this mansion also bowed their heads when they heard the clicking sound of Vincent's shoes coming their way.

He entered one of the rooms. I followed him inside while Ivan left outside.

He sat on the sofa and looked me in the eye.

"Since I paid your hospital bills, you should pay me back by working here," he said in a demanding tone and flicked the cigar away from his direction.

I bit my lower lip and bowed my head. I felt like I was indebted to him.

"W-Will do..." I said barely above the whisper and gulped.

He nodded his head.

"Good. Good to know everything is clear to you. You are a fast learner," he said and smirked.

I didn't know if that was a compliment or something. But I just let it pass. He said I am his mate so technically, we are lovers, right?

Maybe he's strict outside but affectionate on the inside? I don't know.

"To pay the hospital bills, work here. Work here as one of my slaves, one of the Omegas. Be my personal slave," he said which made me pause in shock.

"A slave?" I uttered in disbelief.

I got more confused and couldn't understand what was happening.

We are lovers then he wanted me to be a slave? I didn't get it. It seemed I missed something.

The smirk on his face suddenly vanished. He looked at me with his dead expression.

"Why? Do you have a problem with that?" he asked in a deep, and venomous tone.

I stood up straight and gulped when fear lingered in my body.

"N-no, Alpha..." I answered quickly.

I started to play with the hem of my shirt with my fingers just to ease this nervousness.

"Good. You may now go. Start your duty," he ordered and even motioned his hand as if he was trying to say to get out of his office.

Instead of leaving his room, I stayed in my position.

"What?" he asked in irritation when I didn't obey him asap.

I took a long deep breath and took a lot of courage to say what was running inside my head.

"I---I would like to ask what my name is?" I asked and smiled awkwardly.

His forehead creased while looking at me intently.

"You really don't know?" he asked.

I slowly nodded my head in response.

He rested his back in his seat and a playful smirk crept on his lips.

"Your name is Veronica. Now, go. Get out of my room!"

I flinched when he suddenly raised his voice.

I left quickly in his room as he wished for. When I was already outside, I stopped for a second to remember what he said.

"My name is Veronica..." I whispered and took a deep breath.

"Okay... I'm Veronica," I said in finality and walked away from his office.
