Sam smiled at David and she sat on the couch watching a movie, she wasn’t sure what it was. She’d never seen it before and wasn’t paying attention. Her mind was running over the events that had happened during the day. David had kept true to his plan and they had periodically spent the day making love in every one of the rooms. It was probably a good thing that his apartment wasn’t that big or she may not have survived.
Sam had never felt so treasured before and she had to admit she loved every minute of it but doubt gnawed at her too and refused to go away. Thoughts of Jeff kept running around in her head. Sam chewed on her lip remembering at the time she would’ve sworn Jeff loved her as much as she thought she loved him. Being with Jeff seemed so real and so meant to be but it wasn’t real or meant to be.

Once back at home she paced her living room back and forth feeling sick. Her father had written out exactly what she was going to say tomorrow morning when they met with David and his lawyer. She didn’t think she could do it, it was lying and wrong. There was only one way out, she thought as she picked up her phone and turned it on. The phone started to ring almost immediately and she saw it was David. She smiled for a second weakly, thinking it must be a sign. Sam walked into her house and tossed the keys on the end table. She took off her heels and pushed them under the table. Despite her attempts to ‘go back to normal’ this past week Life was anything but normal. Tears welled up in her eyes and her heart ached. Sam sat in the window seat staring at the sun sink slowly into the city skyline. A few snowflakes fell slowly to the street below.
