22: Evidence Tampering

Sarah's pov

Tuesday morning I got home from the hunt exhausted and wired at the same time. My wolf was still restless from witnessing the violence and my human mind was trying to process everything I'd learned about the brothers and their role as supernatural protectors.

I unlocked my apartment door and immediately knew something was wrong. The air smelled different. Not bad exactly but unfamiliar like someone had been inside while I was gone. My enhanced senses picked up traces of cologne and something else underneath it that I couldn't identify.

I pushed the door open slowly and scanned the living room. Everything looked normal at first glance. Same furniture, same clutter, same stack of mail on the coffee table. But my instincts were screaming that someone had been here.

I walked through the apartment checking each room carefully. The bathroom was undisturbed. The kitchen looked fine. But when I reached my bedroom, I saw it.

    Sarah's pov Cain opened his mouth to answer my question but before he could say anything a sharp shrill shout cut through the air and made me flinch. When we ate meals together they would talk to me and ask me questions but something felt off.
