A noticeable calm settled over Brian, which Leonard found encouraging. The need for pacifying was over. All he could do now was be there, a silent witness to the storm, and wait for his friend to find his own way out of the wreckage.Brian looked up. He hadn't fully accepted pushing Valerie and the unborn baby from his mind, but his relaxed posture said it all. "I'll ask the officers to go and fix the gate," he said. It wasn't a statement of defeat or surrender, but a tactical retreat - a signal that he was ready to regroup and restrategize.Miller Family House The meeting with the sorcerer felt less like a consultation and more like a divine audience. With an air of finality, he assured Magdalene the storm in her life had passed. As a token, he presented her with a small charm, promising it would bend the wills of others to her own. He offered no lengthy explanation, none was needed. Magdalene was familiar with its power. It had worked for her before, and a deep, unshakable certai

Now, she was awake but remained still, hoping to be sure the sound was not in her dream. The sound came again, louder this time. To avoid keeping Anna waiting and ruining the reconciliation, she got out of bed. "Kindly wait," she said to the room as she ran out in her pajamas. With the speed of a cheetah, she was at the gate, very hopeful "Anna?" already forming on her lips, only to find a stone-faced officer with an intimidating height. When a snake bites a person, even a millipede can look like a serpent. That was how Magdalene felt. The hope in her eyes died, replaced by a primal understanding of danger. That wasn't Anna. "Andrea sent him," she said to herself but loud enough. The officer heard her but the words were not his business. "Valerie’s mother?" the officer asked, his voice devoid of any warmth, a statement more than a question. The name landed like a physical blow. Magdalene’s hand flew to the bandage on her head, instinctively praying it would not soon be wet with f

Jane blinked, pulled from her reverie. “Hillary? Are you for real?" She leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a secretive murmur. “Don't you think it's too early?” “No,” he stated, leaving no room for debate. “I have nursed this dream for years." His gaze was intense, unwavering, trapping her. "Now that I have found you, I won’t delay." He leaned in, his voice more romantic, a soothing rhythm that felt like a trap. "Just say yes, Jane.”A thrill shot through her. “Yes! I will marry you!” she said, the words bursting out with excited laughter. “Thank you for accepting my proposal, my Angel.” “It’s my pleasure.”The moment the words left her lips, and the cheap proposal without even a rubber band how much more a ring was sealed, the atmosphere shifted. Magdalene was happy to hear their car leaving and a satisfactory smile flickered. "I will inform Elsa of the latest. She would know how to cover herself up," she decided, and swiped her phone. In the process, she remembered Joan and Paul. "Idiots," she cursed. "I will invite them to my daughter's wedding and display wealth that would shame them to silence."Remembering Joan and Paul would always remind her of the photos and audio. Not just that, it electrified her body. She heard a car again and asked the empty parlor, "Did she forget anything?"Before Magdalene could collect herself and step outside, the visitor had already barged into the compound - thanks to the gate Jane had left unlocked after walking away. Andrea must have a question to ask her. Without greetings, he yelled, "Where are the children, Magdalene?"His sharp voice sliced through the quiet of the compound like a blade.Magdalene’s heart dropped. Her phone nearly slipped from her dampened palm. Andrea wasn’t just a
