“No.”

His response was sharp and fast.

I took a step back. “Why?”

He didn’t answer me; instead, he turned toward Iris, his face wearing that usual mask of blankness that never fully went away.

“This is on you. I will not have blood on my hands.” With those last words, he turned on his heels and headed for the door.

I could not stop myself even though I knew that I shouldn’t have. “Your mother. She ran away. So, why can’t I?”

Cold regret filled me the moment those words left my mouth. I had once

Shame wouldn't let sleep claim me.It was the singular reason why I sat at the dining table at breakfast looking like a living corpse. My eyes would not leave my food as I kept praying for the time to run by quickly so that I could get the much-needed sleep that I was obviously lacking.“Lewison, we have pack business to handle today. Iris, take the Feywin around. We wouldn't want her to die of boredom before she delivers our sacred children.” The order ran past Frank’s mouth fast and sharp. My head snapped up and by the time it did, Lewison and Frank were already on their feet, but what I could not get past was Lewison’s hard-set gaze.Just before he left, his lips pulled into a smirk. The bastard was teasing me.“It’s just us now. Did you think about what we discussed yesterday?” Iris' voice met my ears, but my focus had shifted to the silent stranger on the table who always watched me with careful eyes.He could not be a part of the Aubrey family, now, could he? Sure, he had the sa

  • Bride For The Feral Alpha   #31: The Best Breeder

Survival was the only way forward. Those were the only words I muttered to myself the entire day until I started to believe them.Yes, I had given up, and that was only because there was nothing left to do. All my plans might as well have gone to dust.My hands had grown accustomed to routine, and I found myself knocking twice on Lewison’s door before I could even register it.The maid who usually accompanied me here disappeared before the door opened as usual, and when Lewison opened the doors to his chambers, he was in his usual breeding outfit—a bare chest and a loose cloth tied around his hips.He didn't utter a word and yet, I took it as a cue to go in.I stepped into his chambers. The fireplace burned low, casting more shadows than light across the stone walls. For some reason, it appeared more frightening than it did on other days.Cold seeped up through the floor despite my slippers. Or maybe that was just fear.I stood in the middle of the room, my hands behind my back as I w

So, why can’t I?”Cold regret filled me the moment those words left my mouth. I had once promised him never to speak about his mother and how she came to leave the pack, and here I was breaking that very promise in front of the man who doubted whether he could trust me or not.Lewison turned slowly. His eyebrows furrowed, and his eyes darkened. Lewison stood a few feet away from me, yet I could feel the heat radiating from him. My chest tightened, and my knees grew weak. I did not need anyone to tell me I had done something wrong. There was no going back from this, now, was there?

  • Bride For The Feral Alpha   #29: Breakfast and a Plan

How was I supposed to survive the present breakfast and future breakfasts now that I understood the extent to Frank’s evil? After Lewison revealed everything to me last night, we stood in the clearing for hours before we went back to his chambers. Questions still littered my mind, but seeing the way Lewison’s mask fell. The way his eyes glistened and the way his lips parted slightly as though there were words trapped behind his teeth that he couldn’t release, did something to me that I didn’t want to identify.I could not admit to anyone, much less myself, that I was beginning to see the humanity in a monster. That I had ignored every word of advice that Ophelia left for me in that letter. That I had become unwise. We didn’t sleep that night.Frank did not visit. Thank God.And when morning came, I left Lewison’s chambers without a word.“I didn’t see the two of you last night,” Frank announced, stabbing his fork hard into his pork.My eyes closed shut in an instant, as I did my best

  • Bride For The Feral Alpha   #28: Dorian Aubrey

I didn't think that he would actually do it. But here we were—running. Questions clawed through my mind. Relentless. Loud. Each question fought for an answer that I knew I could not get just yet. Werewolves could hear from miles away and even though it was the dead of the night I did not exactly know who or what could be hiding in the hallways. I followed Lewison closely, always making sure that the distance between us was never too much or too little. If this was a way to escape then I needed to remember every turn and if Frank caught us tonight, Lewison would be my only savior. After about a million turns and going down a few flights of stairs, we met open air again. However, this was not somewhere I was familiar with. These were not the same doors that led to the front of the castle. The small door Lewison and I passed through led to a wide and open forest. Drawing the coat even tighter on my body, more questions filled my head. Where was this place? Who could we po

  • Bride For The Feral Alpha   #27: Woman and Woman

In Evenmoor, women did not touch each other unless it was polite, brief, or required. When Lewison mentioned that I could have a female mistress if I wanted to, I took it as a joke. Something said in the heat of the moment.,I believe that it was one of those things that people always said but never meant, like all the times my father said he'd quit smoking.Without waiting for permission from Lewison, I sat on his bed, allowing all the information I had just heard to settle in.“You’re lying,” I muttered without thinking. “Women don’t… Gabriella wouldn’t have… That’s not how the world works.”Footsteps crossed the room, and then I felt Lewison’s towering presence hover above me. Still, I didn't look up.My hands curled into the sheets. I needed to make sense of something. Anything.Gabriella was here and found love with Iris? But that was so long ago, and I would have known if any of Father's siblings disappeared, wouldn't I? He’d kept this pact thing hidden from me for so long, an
