Dale’s POV

I snapped my head up. He was mentioning that word again, but for some reason, I could not bring myself to ask him anything about it. Like before, his finger went under my chin, and he pushed my face up till I was staring into his pool of blue eyes.

“Tell me, are you okay?

”I nodded. “Yes,” I added almost immediately. “I am fine.”His arm around my waist tightened. It took every shred of strength within me to keep my face straight and a scream from escaping my throat.

A knock sounded on the door, and an auburn-haired lady waltzed in.I breathed a sigh of relief when his arm around me relaxed and he stepped away. I lowered my head again, digging my nails into my skin to keep myself from feeling the biting pain in my side.

“This is Gwen, the omega I told you about. She will help you with settling in. If there is anything you need and I am not available, let her know. She will make sure you get it.” He turned to the lady who had just arrived, nodding curtly at her.

“Gwen.”She nodded back. “I will take care of her, Alpha. Don’t worry.”Amber looked like she had gone through a lot, but that was a problem for later.

Now, there was something bugging me about the girl, and it was not the fact that my Beta somehow stumbled across her ‘home’ in her former pack or that I couldn’t shake the feeling that Alpha Derrick was hiding something from me.

Because what did he mean by the cryptic words he told me on the day I went to pick Amber up? She is not all she seems. Keeping her here was for her own good? Obviously, being in that pack had not done her any good, but as I said, that was something I would deal with later.

For now, I needed to know why someone went through the trouble of binding her wolf and then making her believe she was wolf-less, suffering stigma for such a long time. For some reason, my wolf was drawn to that bound, suffering wolf. She was my mate. I could feel it, but she couldn’t because she had no access to her wolf.

“What do you think?” I asked, glancing at Janine, who was busy rearranging her office. Janine was a woman in her mid twenties and one of the few people I trusted not because she might be mated to my beta but because of our shared pasts and also because she was the best healer in our pack.

“If you are sure of what you scented, then maybe she is hiding a wound, and it may have gotten infected,” she shrugged before turning to the large shelves.

“I might have to take a look. You can bring her by later, and I would love to meet this girl…” she smiled, wriggling her brows suggestively. When I returned to the infirmary again, Amber was in tow, and I could tell by the look on her face that she was uncomfortable being here.

“Amber,” I said. “Meet Janine, our finest healer. She would be taking a look at you.”Amber nodded but kept her eyes lowered. A gesture that was beginning to grate harshly on my nerves. Even my wolf was eager to return to her pack and tear into anyone who might have beaten an Alpha wolf like her in submission.

Backing Janine, who was getting up from her seat, I slid my arm behind Amber’s back, watching closely as she scrunched her face up in pain, although she tried hard to mask it. The telltale signs were there.

“You’re hurt, Amber. Janine would take care of you.” She looked away, unable to meet my gaze. “Tell me how you feel. I want to know.”“I’m… I’m fine.”‘Lies!’ My wolf growled inside me. ‘I can smell the blood on her. Her scent is different from other werewolves; I know, but the smell of the blood on her is overpowering.

’“Listen, Amber,” I said, struggling for control with my wolf, who was fighting to take over. “I don’t care about what they must have drummed into you in your other pack, but while you are here, I would like for you to feel at home and, most importantly, tell me the truth when I demand it. My wolf has the ability of smelling lies.

”Her head snapped up to meet mine. For a moment, I was taken aback by the gold in her irises. It was the one thing that had drawn me to her at first. That and the strange scent. As quickly as her head snapped up, it snapped back down as though she just recalled her training. I shook my head, turning my eyes briefly to meet Janine’s.

“I will ask you again, Amber. How do you feel? Are you injured anywhere?

“Yes.” She blinked, peeking up at me from below her long lashes. “But I’ve taken care of them. I’ll be fine in a few days. I don’t heal as fast as werewolves because I have no wolf, but I heal faster than humans.”She talked fast. Too fast. It was as though she feared we would beat her if we believed she was too weak. Did they beat her for this in her pack?

My wolf growled at that thought. If anyone dared to lay a hand on a hair on her head -“Come here, Amber. Let me see.” Janine’s soft and soothing whisper pulled me from the edge I had been going over.

I snapped my attention to Amber, who was frozen on the spot she was standing. My arms were wrapped around her, and I could feel her body trembling. Without thinking, I pulled her closer, conditioning my body so she could feel the heat radiating from my wolf, and my wolf would feel close to hers. It was the only way I thought to help her.

If it worked, I would never know, because Janine snatched her from me too soon. My wolf growled his displeasure, but knowing that Janine meant our mate no harm, reined him in.

“If you feel any pain or you want to leave, let me know, okay?”She nodded.“I will need your words, Amber. I cannot read your thoughts. At least for now. When I mark you and we are bonded, I will know what you are feeling and thinking, but till then, I will need you to communicate those feelings and thoughts to me.”If her eyes could get any wider, they would have at that instant as she gaped at me.

“Mark me?”I smiled. “Yes, Amber. I will mark you very soon. When I said you were my mate, you did not think I was joking, did you?

”She turned a confused expression to Janine, then to me. “But…” whatever words she wanted to say died on her lips. Her nails dug into flesh, a habit I noticed she did often, perhaps to remind herself of reality or to forget the other pain she felt; I had no idea. What I did know was that the habit was hurting her.“Stop that.” I demanded. A bit too harshly, I got a scolding from my wolf not to scare our mate.

“You have a wolf, Amber. I told you before. It is bound, but I will find a way to unbind it.”“Alpha, would you let me work?” Janine said, pulling Amber to sit on a small bed in her office. “I’m sure you both can sort out whatever this is later on.”I kept shut as Janine began working. I wouldn’t want her sending me out of her office. Only she had the power to do that, and I wanted to be here for my mate.

Slowly, she pulled Amber’s dress to one side, then off her skinny body.It was neat, but twice her size. But it was a far cry from the clothes she had arrived here in. Soon, she would fill out all the bones, and all her clothes were going to be a perfect fit; till then—My wolf growled as I took in the long gashes on her broken flesh. There were lots of scars, but the wound, which they never allowed to heal, stood out the most. Amber moved, bundling her clothes up to cover herself after seeing the horrified looks on both our faces.

“I’m fine. I’m fine, I swear, I can take care of this,” she said, jumping off from the bed.My wolf growled, startling me and everyone in the room. Amber froze; the fear in her eyes tugged at my heart, and guilt rushed through me. I took a deep, calming breath, pushing my wolf down before it did irreparable damage.“You are not fine, Amber. You need to stop saying that.” I pinched my brows trying to rein in my boiling temper.

“Who did this to you?”Her head snapped to Janine’s face as if seeking an ally, but Janine was just as curious as I am. I grabbed her hands, pulling her into my body while being careful not to injure her further.

“Let me see the rest of them,” I whispered softly.

“Please.”

Without waiting for her approval, I tore the rest of her clothes off her, and that was when my enraged wolf let out a loud, piercing wail that shot through my soul.

  • Bride Of The Lycan King   Beastly Guards

Kevin’s POV I couldn’t break the wall no matter how much I tried. The guard walked towards me first. I couldn’t see him well through the thick blackness that engulfed the room, but the sound of his boots against the stone told me how close he was to me. I tried to move, to shift away from where I was but that was useless. My limbs were as though they were paralyzed and I was going to need more than desperation to move them. The man’s scent wafted through my nose and I almost gagged. Closing my eyes, I waited for the prickling sensation which would tell me that he had injected another dose of wolfsbane in my system but it never came. Instead, the sound of a body slamming into the wall reached my ears. My eyes flew open immediately. I saw nothing but I knew one thing for certain, the guard was no longer standing in front of me. I heard a series of curses, followed by a loud growl and a hiss. Maybe I couldn’t see what was happening, but I wasn’t stupid not to be able to tell that

  • Bride Of The Lycan King   Chaos

Amber’s POV Alpha Dale held me as if he was scared I’ll vanish if he let go. I allowed myself to sink into his arms as my wolf curled up in my chest, warming me up. I sent my warmth into him, to calm his emotions at least. “I’m sorry,” I whispered against his chest. “Janine told me what happened with Kevin. Are you okay?” He shrugged as best as he could with me plugged inside him. “I have to be strong to hold all of this thing up, right?” I tightened my arms around him, trying to shut up the emotions that were welling up inside me. Izzy leaned against the opposite wall, arms crossed over his chest as he chewed his lip. Fabian looked very frustrated and I had the urge to go over and comfort him as well, After all, we were in this place to help his mate. Beta Trent wasn’t in the room but I didn’t have to ask where he was. At least, he wasn’t gone like Kevin. Alpha Dale let out a heavy breath that reverberated through the walls of my chest. For a minute, I forgot I was still tucke

  • Bride Of The Lycan King   The Hollowed Circle

Kevin’s POV “The hollowed circle?” I repeated, shaking my head. “No.” He chuckled bitterly. “That is exactly the point.” I inched closer to him, completely taken in. “What are they? I don’t assume the Lycan King is aware of their existence, right? Or the council.” He shrugged. “I cannot tell what they know or the extent of their knowledge. What I can tell you is that its is a group hidden deep in the coven of witches. Even most witches are not aware of their existence.” “How did you know about it then?” I asked. “After I found out about Derrick’s secret, I started digging around for information. Connecting the dots wasn’t really hard. Derrick is a witch who has been living under the guise of being a werewolf and an Alpha at that for many years.” My heart froze. If one Alpha could do this, then how many more were out there? How many of the people I knew and interacted with daily were witches? I glanced up at him. “What is their aim? Werewolves and witches aren’t friends. Why w

  • Bride Of The Lycan King   A Plan In Motion

Kevin’s POV They will kill you all! The words echoed in my head for what seemed like ages. The conviction in his words cut through my heart like a sword and I wondered what it was that made me believe him without a shred of doubt. “What is your name?” He asked after a long time. “I am Noah. I used to be a member of this pack. You can say I still am. But after what they did to me. After what they stole from me, I don’t know if it is right to consider myself one of them.” I didn’t need to see his face to hear the pain in his words. It ached just hearing it. What did these people do to him? What did they steal from him? I guessed it was more than material possession. It seemed to be bigger than that. “Kevin.” I answered. “Yeti. Do you know her? She used to be a member of your pack and she’s going to be facing trial in a few days for being a spy. We came to get evidence to prove her innocence. But with the way things are going, we might be too late.” “Yeti…” he said the name as if

  • Bride Of The Lycan King   Imprisoned

Kevin’s POV Darkness. It was everywhere. It was so black that it was unnatural. From the smell, I knew I was no longer in my room. The place smelled the way the gallows did back at Free City or even worse. There was an ache in my bones that made me feel like I was dragged through a stampede. Where was I? And how the hell did I get here? My head pounded with a dull ache that made everything foggy, including the blackness. I reached in to pull my wolf to the surface, but there was nothing there but emptiness. I could still feel him inside me but it was as though he was blocked by an iron wall. What was this? I closed my eyes, shutting the blackness out as I tried to remember something, anything that will give me a clue as to where I was. The memory returned to me slowly. We had dinner, but during that time, I had stumbled upon something which I thought was going to be interesting. And it was – it had been. Excitedly, I had sent it to Alpha Dale immediately. Was that when I made

  • Bride Of The Lycan King   The Unthinkable

Amber’s POV I didn’t realized I had slept off until I woke up to the blinding light of a bright new day. As expected, Alpha Dale wasn’t in bed beside me and his side of the bed was cold. That meant he woke up a long time ago or he never came to bed. At least, he could have woken me up as well. I yawned, stretching myself out. Goddess, my body was wrecked. Even sleeping these days felt like a chore. I glanced around the room, noticing for the first time since we arrived yesterday that it was the same room Alpha Dale had slept in the last time we came here. Did he pick it unconsciously? I highly doubted that. This was one of those room I spent the whole day cleaning when I was still a slave here, only to be punished when Celia or Lydia found a speck of dust somewhere. I hated that I was here, but I couldn’t complain. Alpha Dale already had a lot to deal with. Thinking of Alpha Dale, I was immediately reminded that he said we were supposed to talk to Kevin in the morning. Throwing

  • Bride Of The Lycan King   Danger

Noah’s POV I knew I needed to run. That much I was sure of. My heart hammered in my chest and my lungs expanded painfully with the strain that I was putting on it, but I couldn’t stop. I knew what was going to happen the moment I did. Death! The thought of it echoed grimly in my mind. I couldn’t die here. That was not even an option, at least for now. I had to pay them back for what they stole from me. My heart ached as I thought about it and I immediately slapped the thought away. The moment I saw the stone steps of my house, I relaxed a bit. I made it this far. Maybe no one was chasing me. Had it all been my imagination? No, I was sure of what I saw. Although it had only been a shadow, I was sure what I saw when I stood with Amber was Lydia. She had seen and heard me. My mind went back to Amber. Did she heed my warning? I hoped she did. I regretted not doing enough for her back then, but at least now… I could try and take them down for her, even if it was the last thing I di

  • Bride Of The Lycan King   A Serious Situation

Amber’s POV The air around us was filled with tension that was almost palpable. Alpha Dale looked as though he was going to blow up and was barely restraining his anger. What did he see? I wondered. What did he see inside there that made him so mad? “Sorry I couldn’t be here to welcome you to the pack,” Alpha Marcus started. His eyes barely met Alpha Dale’s gaze and I could tell that he was clenching his hands into fists. “When my beta informed me that you were here, I rushed over as quickly as I could.” Alpha Dale blinked. “Is that so? Your beta mentioned something about rogues at your borders.” Alpha Marcus nodded before giving me a weary look. “Maybe we can talk in my office? Standing around like –” “I asked a question, Marcus.” Alpha Dale growled. “Why have I not heard the news about rogues at your borders?” Alpha Marcus blinked rapidly. I was sure that if he was wearing a tie, he would have adjusted it just to get more air in, but even now, he looked as if he was going to

  • Bride Of The Lycan King   An Ominous Warning

Amber’s POV “Meet me in Derrick’s old room,” Alpha Dale’s whispers filtered into my ear. “Alpha Marcus is using it now. Don’t be late.” Even now, when the dining hall was slowly clearing, his voice still echoed in the back of my mind. What was it? I felt a certain kind of excitement rushing through my veins that even startled me. What did he find? Something told me it wasn’t going to be good. But why didn’t he want the others to know? He whispered it so low that I was sure the others couldn’t catch it even with their superior werewolf hearing. He didn’t even trust our mind link enough to use it. Perhaps it was the buzz of being involved in something mysterious that no one else could know about that made me this excited. As soon as I excused myself from the table, I made my way to our room first to prepare myself for whatever revelation I was going to hear and seeing Derrick’s private quarters again after such a long time. After several minutes of talking to myself in a mirror,
