They arrived home that evening, the soft click of the apartment door behind them was a sound of release. They tossed their bags aside, unbuttoned their suits, and collapsed onto the couch, laughing at how drained and wired they felt all at once.

After a refreshing shower, the scent of toasted bread and scrambled eggs filled the air. Derek stood at the stove, humming under his breath, while Caleb set the table.

“Breakfast for dinner is our favorite,” Caleb said with a grin.

“When exhaustion hit,” Derek added, and they both laughed.

Caleb poured fresh orange juice into two glasses as Derek slid golden-brown toast onto plates beside a heap of roasted cherry tomatoes and turkey bacon.

They sat side-by-side at the island, feet brushing under the counter.

"Tomorrow’s a free day," Derek said between bites, "so we’ll get our things ready, check the flight details, and maybe go over some designs."

Caleb nodded. "That sounds good."

Derek smirked. "And Sunday? I’m taking you out. Somewhere fanc

  • Broke Up... Now I Am His Stepfather   HENRY

The Next Day They met in a quiet, softly lit room at the adoption agency. The walls were painted a warm cream, and a few colorful toys were neatly arranged in the corner. Chloe entered holding the hand of a small boy. Henry looked up nervously but curious, gripping her hand tightly. “Hello,” she said softly, standing before Caleb and Asher. “Nice to meet you again. This is Henry.” She smiled gently. “He’s five years old and an orphan.” “Henry?” Caleb and Asher said together, exchanging looks before focusing back on the boy. Henry’s blue eyes scanned Caleb and Asher, wide but cautious. Caleb knelt down to meet Henry’s gaze. “Hi Henry. It’s nice to meet you.” Asher stepped forward slowly and held out his hand. “Hey buddy, we’re here for you.” He glanced at Caleb and added, “He’s got your charm.” Caleb smiled. “Yeah, I can see that. You look so adorable.” He turned to Henry. Henry hesitated, then released Chloe’s hand and reached toward Caleb. A shy smile spread across hi

  • Broke Up... Now I Am His Stepfather   WITH HIM

"Evelyn... long time no see," he murmured softly. "Ouch, sorry. You're naked." He slipped a pair of dark shades on. "I think these will help." Evelyn tried to lift her head and push herself up, but she collapsed back onto the floor. "Don’t strain yourself," Valen mocked, his voice dripping with cold amusement. "The burial is underway. You’re not going to make it there." Evelyn glared at him, her eyes wide with fear and defiance. "Maybe you didn’t hurt enough," Valen taunted, a dark edge in his voice. "I can still call her back." He let out a pained laugh. "You caused the death of my nephew. What are you going to do now? Show your face at the funeral? No, baby." Valen stood, his voice cold as steady. "The only reason you're still alive after what you did is because of Asher. But not even he can save you now." He began to walk away, then paused halfway. "Relax. The poison has already taken hold. You won’t have much strength left soon. And here..." He glanced toward Evelyn and Nao

  • Broke Up... Now I Am His Stepfather   SAME DAY

Jesse and Caleb stood to leave when they caught sight of Asher approaching. Caleb moved slowly toward him. Asher stepped forward to meet him, with Amanda close behind. They embraced, tears streaming down Caleb’s face. “It’s over now, sweetheart,” Asher whispered, holding him tightly. Caleb’s gaze shifted to the spot where Henry had stood before the mine detonated. Asher’s grip loosened as he followed Caleb’s eyes. Caleb took slow steps toward the blast site, Amanda and Jesse a few paces behind. The ground was blackened and torn apart, the air thick with the sharp, metallic scent of blood and smoke. “Henry,” Asher muttered, his voice catching as his eyes fixed on the shredded remains of Henry’s jacket scattered across the dirt. Fragments of Henry’s body lay strewn where the explosion had thrown them. His head rested several feet apart from the rest, pale beneath a mask of dust and dried blood. Asher dropped to his knees, tears streaming freely. His hands trembled as he crawled for

Caleb was about to dart left when he suddenly collided with someone. He looked up, eyes wide in disbelief.“Jesse?” Caleb whispered, disbelief washing over him.“You’re safe,” Jesse replied, a gentle smile spreading across his face.“Please, I need your help,” Caleb said, glancing anxiously at Henry. “It’s Henry.”“Henry?”“My friend,” Caleb said, gripping Jesse’s wrist tightly. “He stepped on a mine. You have to help him now.”Jesse’s eyes narrowed as he looked at Henry, who stood about ten meters away, confused. Still, Jesse’s expression stayed steady and calm.Henry heard the muffled conversation as he opened his eyes, tears streaming freely while he watched Caleb’s gestures toward Jesse. Suddenly, he lifted his leg, and an explosion tore through the air.The ground splattered with dark stains. Shreds of fabric floated down like dead leaves in the settling dust. Caleb spun around, a cry of agony ripping from his throat. His eyes filled with unbearable pain, veins pulsing visibly be

Henry leapt into a room and found it empty. Without hesitation, he dashed into the next, scanning carefully but finding nothing. He hurried on to the third room. There he spotted Caleb, bound to a chair with his mouth gagged by duct tape.Henry rushed over, dropping his gun to the floor. He peeled off the duct tape from Caleb’s mouth, then pulled a small knife from his pocket and began cutting through the rope.“Henry...?” Caleb murmured, eyes wide with surprise.“We don’t have time,” Henry replied sharply as he worked.“Henry,” Caleb called again, noticing a shadow moving near the door.Henry ignored him, continuing to saw at the ropes.“Henry!” Caleb’s voice grew urgent, his eyes widening in fear. “There’s someone at the door.”Henry spun around just as a man stepped in, gun raised. “Who did?” Henry asked coldly over the phone.“Your mother,” Asher replied quietly, then ended the call.Henry stared blankly ahead, his phone slipping slowly from his hand.---A muscular man approached Valen, who sat alone behind his house near the swimming pool. He leaned in close and whispered into Valen’s ear. There’s something about it I just can’t place.”Amanda’s voice was cold and steady. “I need your help.”Valen scoffed. “Of course. When things don’t go your way, you come running to me to fix them.”Amanda’s tone sharpened. “Valen, I really need your help.”Leaning in, Valen warned, “Young lady, if you want to stay alive, you better start walking a
