The door creaked open with a low groan, followed by the soft thud of Derek’s shoes as he stepped inside. Caleb did not flinch. He sat curled up on the couch in the sitting room, one leg tucked beneath him, arms crossed, his gaze fixed on the television screen.

Derek paused, his brows slightly raised as he dropped his phone on the side table.

“You are still up?” he asked, kicking off his shoes. “It is past eleven.”

Caleb finally looked up. “Waiting for you.”

There was a beat of silence before Derek raised a brow, amused. “Seriously?”

“Derek,” Caleb admitted softly. “I would not sleep without you. Knowing you are out there with a stranger.”

Derek’s grin faded. He stepped closer, shoving his hands into his pockets, unsure if he should sit or stay standing.

“Did you and Jesse do anything?” Caleb asked, voice low but clear. His eyes followed Derek's every movement.

Derek blinked. “You really want to know?”

“I need to.”

Derek sat on the armrest beside him, sighed, and nodded. “Yes. We did.”
