Damon’s POV

“It’ll be between you and Clara.”

The words rang in my head for the upteenth time before I finally snapped out of it.

I let out a short laugh— one that sounded more like a scoff. The last time a vote was done between the both of us, Clara won. I couldn’t let that repeat again, never!

“Clara isn’t running for CEO,” I announced like I had the final decision, “she isn’t—“

“The votes will decide that,” Sylvester interrupted. “She’s a board member with the same voting rights as us.

Damon’s POV I hid the photograph behind as she came in, my fingers curling around it to form a ball. Her brows pulled together, studying me as if she was suspicious. Then, she walked over to the bed and placed the tray of food on the drawer.“You should come eat soon while it’s still hot. I made your favorite.”I feigned a smile, masking the tension bubbling inside me. “Could you get me a glass of water?” I requested, even though I didn’t really want it.She hesitated for a moment, her eyes fixed on me.“Are you alright, honey?” she asked, stepping closer.“It’s fine, Camilla. Just get me a glass of water,” I answered immediately— not wanting her to come any further. “Okay,” she mumbled with a forced smile before turning for the door. Once she was out, I slid the photograph from behind my back and immediately disposed of it in the trash can. The picture told me so much already. That wasn’t just some random man like I had initially thought— they actually knew each other for over

Damon’s POV For a moment, I thought I had heard him wrong. My grip on the phone tightened. “What did you just say?” “He leaned toward her like he was going to kiss her,” he explained carefully. “Your wife pushed him away just in time.” A dangerous silence filled the room. I rubbed my temple as I pondered; it didn’t make any sense. No loan shark would randomly just want to kiss someone — this guy definitely had some history with Camilla. My jaw tightened as my confusion deepened. I was caught between a rock and a hard place with no clear way out.“What did she do?” I asked, curious to know Camilla’s reaction. He hesitated for a moment, then his voice came through the phone again. “Nothing.” “Really?”“Yes boss,” he replied firmly. “She Just left the restaurant afterwards.” I let out a soft breath, but it did little to no help in cooling the heat building in my chest. So some strange dude got so comfortable that he tried to kiss Camilla, and she did nothing.I pushed back from

She even owns fifty percent of this company's shares.” “Owning fifty percent of the shares only increases her revenue. She has no experience running for such a position.”“Experience?” Sylvester muttered, slowly tilting his head. “It’s funny how that suddenly matters now. I mean, you have been running this company into the ground for months with your experience— maybe we need someone with no experience this time.” My mouth opened, then closed. I couldn’t find the right words to say — I had no

Damon’s POVMy lips curled into a wide smile. This was exactly what I wanted—her being caught in her own game. But the satisfaction was short-lived as the initial expression vanished completely from her face, replaced by one I couldn’t quite grasp. She sighed softly. “Is that all you’ve got to tell me?”My smile faltered, the confidence draining from my face before I could stop it. For a moment, I couldn’t even find the words to respond.“If you’ll excuse me, I have a meeting to catch up with,” she spat coldly. “You can continue ridiculing yourself.”That was all she said before walking past me.I remained standing there, completely dumbfounded. The moment I got to the boardroom for the meeting, I was already a few minutes late.As I walked in, I tried to gather the remaining pieces of my self-confidence. For a brief moment, my eyes scanned the room—everyone was already seated. When my gaze landed on Clara, I felt a small thump in my chest. She had such a strong hold on me. First, I

Damon’s POV I drove into the company premises as usual and pulled over in the parking lot.Leaning back in my seat, I stared up at the building that loomed before me. It was another day to give my best. After a couple of minutes, I finally reached for my briefcase on the passenger seat, pushed the door open, and stepped out of the car. The cool morning air brushed against my skin as I locked the vehicle and adjusted the sleeve of my suit.My mind was already drifting toward the pile of work waiting for me upstairs as I walked toward the building’s entrance.Halfway there, the sound of an SUV driving into the premises made me pause. It was a new vehicle. I couldn’t remember seeing it around before, so I was curious to know who came with it. The engine hummed softly before coming to a stop and I watched as a man in a uniform stepped out and rushed over to the passenger door. The door opened, and my heart skipped a beat as Clara stepped out. Our gaze met instantly and she held it.

  • Broken Vows, Rising Flames    Chapter 37

Clara’s POVMy heart skipped a beat, the air suddenly too heavy to inhale. Looking at the diamond ring, it was beautiful— sparkling under the soft glow of the car’s interior light. Leonard was a good man; I just couldn’t imagine us that way. “Leo…” I whispered, my voice barely steady. This couldn’t be real.Just a few minutes ago, we were talking about the drive, about Damon, about work. Now he was proposing, staring at me like I was the most important person in his life. I swallowed, trying to gather the right words to say. I reached for his hand, careful not to take the ring. “I didn’t expect this, Leonard,” I admitted calmly. He held my gaze, his eyes pleading with me to consider. I paused, letting out a soft exhale.“This is… a lot to take in,” I said carefully. “Can you give me some time to think about it?”He leaned back in his seat, letting out a soft exhale. “Would the response be positive?” He asked, looking away from me. My fingers were fumbling with each other and ha

Clara’s POV It was barely a few minutes past 7 am. I sat in front of the large mirror in the room, applying the final touches of my foundation. Each stroke felt reluctant and dull, as if my hand were too lazy to continue. Maybe it was the tension pressing against my chest. Even if I didn’t want

Damon’s POV “What the hell are you trying to prove?” I pushed my chair backward, the loud scraping sound tore through the almost quiet room. My heart thumped loudly with each heavy breath I took.
