Clara’s POV

The elevator chimed softly as it slid open, the sound almost immediately swallowed by the hush of Adams Holdings’ office floor.

Everyone seemed engrossed in whatever they were doing—fingers punching keys, closers on calls trying their best to close deals.

It felt like it was going to be another beautiful day, with not much to worry about.

I got to my office and settled in front of my desk. Two exhales and a knock comes on the door.

Leaning back into my seat, I said “come in,” as r

Leonard's POV Rage burned in my heart as I slammed the door. My heart raced as I gasped hard, staring at my steering. She stood by his side, and looking at her only enraged me.I rolled my eyes and planted my leg on the accelerator pedal and the engine roared like thunder, dust raised all over the place and I dashed out of her sight. After all I had done, everything I had done for her, this is how she repaid me back. My mind endlessly replayed the image of Clara and Damon embracing and I bit my lips hard, my grip tightening on the wheels. My heart raced as I accelerated further, I didn't take my leg off that pedal. Why did she embrace him? I kept asking myself. She promised we'd be married, but that's what I got.As I stormed into the road, I kept asking myself. That one question I couldn't answer, the one that just didn't make any sense. How could she have forgiven Damon after everything he'd done to her? Just how. I kept wondering, my mind darting back and forth and still, I coul

  • Broken Vows, Rising Flames    Chapter 96

Damon's POV The air between us all was heavy and painful and Maurice just stared at her, waiting for his answer. After a long silence, she finally looked at me once again and back at him, her voice changed from rage to a sweet but reluctant one.“Yes… he is your father,” she finally said with a deep sigh.He looked at her, his voice small but firm. I stared at his beautiful face, a child so pure and calm, a child that had to go through all of these just because of my stupidity.“Mommy, I love him and I want my papa,” he stretched his hand forward to me, but I couldn't go. Clara would rather die than see me any closer to her son. She leaned in immediately, looking into his eyes and cried deeply.“Don't forget the truth, Maurice. He's a monster, he left us to die and he's only here because she left him, I know that. We can't trust him, he'll do it again, you know that, right?” Her red eyes stared into his, but his heart was pure and free of hate. He simply replied with a softer respons

  • Broken Vows, Rising Flames    Chapter 95

Damon's POV The air was heavy with the scent of medicine and the sounds of footsteps thudding against the ground. The constant beeping of machines was all around the place and my heart pounded as I rushed in.I didn’t even lock my car. Sweat rolled down my face as I dashed into the hallway. My eyes scanned every door, searching for Ward 127—the exact room the nurse had told me I would find Maurice in, since his previous room had been taken by another patient. My soul was troubled from everything. My head banged with a splitting headache and I dashed in, clearly shaken after receiving a shocking revelation.I turned around and I couldn't find ward 127.My breath was heavy as I turned back and headed out in pain and defeat, but just outside the pediatric ward, I saw him. There was no mistaking that. Ethan, standing there, perhaps looking for me.I dived right at him, grabbing his shirt, my eyes bulging out and pain surging through my veins.“Where is he?!” My eyes burned with terror. “

  • Broken Vows, Rising Flames    Chapter 94

Damon's POV My heart tightened as I stared at her, guilt swelling in my chest. I couldn't believe it. Yes, I had suspected it, but realizing the truth felt different, painful, made me look like a fool. I was a coward for leaving Clara and I fell right into karma's trap. She wasn't remorseful, not a single bit. She wasn't the fragile wife with amnesia anymore, she no longer was the woman who if I pushed too much could die. Come to think of it, I have been a fool all along. How on earth can amnesia cause death, it all made sense now.She had the doctor paid, but all for what, to get back at me, after wasting my life.My arms were tucked into my side as I just stared at her in shock as she ranted all around the place, screaming and I couldn't help but nod. She was a good actor, an impressive one. Because what I saw her display was a stark contrast to the woman she was yesterday. I descended from the small step from the door and came over to her, my eyes heavy with pain and my voice fu

  • Broken Vows, Rising Flames    Chapter 93

Damon’s pov My phone rang as I stood by the door with Camila. She was still clad in her beautiful white dress and wearing amazing smiles by the corner. I paused for a while, she held on to me, but I assured I'll be back as the caller just didn't want to stop calling.“I'll be back, soon, I promise,” and kissed her hand gently and headed to a corner. It was Ethan. My heart raced hard, as my thumb struggled to tap my screen. I didn't want to answer the call, I didn't want to hear his voice, I didn't want anything from him, not after what he had done. But something struck me, something I couldn't understand and I knew avoiding him wouldn't solve anything, and despite our strained relationship, he may have something important to tell me.With a deep sigh, my thumb tapped the screen and he began rambling on and on about why I didn't pick up the call and said a lot, none of which I believed. After I had heard enough, I just scoffed.“Are you done?” I raised an eyebrow. “I have a home to

Clara’s POVI let out a humorless laugh. That was definitely what people do when they hear a joke. It had to be one too.The doctor’s brows pulled together, confusion flickered on his face. His voice was calm, his concern palpable as he spoke. “Are you alright?” I nodded once, waiting for him to finally reveal that this was all some sort of cruel prank. That Maurice was going to go through with his surgery. But it never happened. The truth settled in slowly—cruelly—like something heavy sinking into water, dragging everything down with it.My world tilted in place, right in front of me, as though reality had lost its balance. His words kept echoing in my ears, looping over and over again, refusing to settle where they belonged. Refusing to make sense.I couldn’t breathe. The room felt empty in the worst possible way—like all the air had been stolen at once, leaving behind nothing but a hollow, suffocating silence.“Are you for real, Doctor Sidney?” I managed to ask, like I was ready

Clara’s POV The drive back home had been quiet for a while, the city’s lights moving past us in a complete blur. It wasn’t necessarily uncomfortably, just heavy like there was something unsaid sitting between us. My head rested against the seat, staring blankly out the window as we drove pas
