Anna got home in haste. The house was as calm as a millpond . The soft creak of the old gate barely echoed before it closed behind Anna. The early evening sun cast slanted beams through the dusty trees, but she barely noticed. Her steps were slow, almost hesitant, her back hunched-not from the weight of the cleaning suppliers, but from something heavier, something pressing down on her soul.

Mama Grace was sitting on the low stool outside the kitchen door, peeling cassava with her practised, wrinkled hands. She looked up the moment Anna walked in, her old eyes narrowing at the girl slouched shoulders and hollowed gaze. “Anna?”. Her voice was gentle but firm. “What happened? Why are you home early?”. The world outside the police station felt muted, like someone had lowered the volume on reality. Anna walked blindly, her steps unsure, her body heavy with everything that had happened. But nothing hurt as much as betrayal. Not just by Rochester, but by the system that should have protected her. She kept walking. She didn't remember passing the market. She didn't notice the shouting of traders, the sharp aroma of roasted maize and Engine fumes. Everything around her blurred into background noise -white, endless and spinning. Her mind kept replaying it: Rochester’s voice, confident and cruel. The threat by him. “Use what you have to get what you want”. And then his eyes-shamelessly lingering, pointing at her chest like she was nothing more than a bargaining chip carved in flesh. Anna's fists tightened as she approached the road. She didn't see the car coming. The screech was the first thing she heard. Then the thud. Her body lifted from the ground as metal collided

Anna got out of bed, her reflection in the mirror as she checked her face. She no longer felt the ache in her feet or the tension in her shoulders. What she felt was a relief from all the pain she was feeling. She had planned to go the station to report what was going on. She had Rage in her , like how would her cousin want to take what was rightfully hers. The kind of Rage that grew from the deepest betrayal. The kind of Rage that could no longer sit silent, not even the world tried to tell her to shut up. She entered a cab and headed to the police station very early in the morning without telling Mama Grace her plan. Not long after, She arrived at the police station just as the morning sun cut through the low hanging clouds. The paint on the station was cracked and faded, the walls yellowed with age. The coat of arms above the Entrance was crooked. But none of that mattered.Justice lived here. At least, it was supposed to. Anna inhaled slowly, smoothed her dress,

Anna went back outside to meet the old woman, so they could be going home together. They boarded a bus that took them to the house. And in less than thirty minutes, they were at the woman's place. The sun had already begun to shine brightly across the city when The old woman led Anna through THE crumbling gate of her home. From the outside, the modest bungalow didn't look like much-a faded blue paint job that was beginning to peel, a short iron fence rusting at the joints, and a small yard overtaken by wildflowers and weeds. But the air felt different here. It was Calmer and kinder. Anna stood still for a moment, her gaze resting on a slanted roof, the wind chimes above the doorway jingling faintly in the breeze. The door creaked open and the old woman stepped in first.“Come child”, She said, beckoning with a warm smile.”This is not a mansion, but it's a safe nest”. Anna stepped over the threshold and felt a wave of warmth wash over her- not from heat, but from so
