Chapter 5

"What?! You're sad and angry? I'm the one who should be sad and angry! Today's our wedding anniversary, but you were out fooling around with another man. How do you think that makes me feel?"

Shawn was frustrated and simply voiced what was on his mind.

Crystal froze. She could see his anger and his heartbreak. Tears flowing, she pouted. "Then do you love me?"

"What do you think?" Shawn scoffed.

Both crying and smiling, Crystal exclaimed, "Honey, I love you too!"

An hour later, leaning against the headboard, Crystal said sweetly, "Honey, I'm hungry."

Shawn had calmed down by now. He nodded before heading out to prepare a midnight snack.

Watching him go, Crystal's eyes held mixed emotions.

They say marriage is like wearing shoes; only you can tell whether they fit.

Crystal knew that in many ways, Shawn was the perfect pair of shoes for her. He was gentle, considerate, and perceptive.

He could fulfill all her fantasies about love.

But life wasn't just about love.

She was under enormous pressure – from her family, from her parents...

Sigh!

She didn't expect her husband to be obsessed with faithfulness. If he found out about the things that she had done...

Trembling slightly, Crystal made up her mind.

Some things must remain hidden. Her husband must never know.

Half an hour passed.

After a hearty meal, Crystal nestled in Shawn's arms, too lazy to talk.

Shawn suddenly suggested, "Honey, let's have a baby."

In a year, he would be thirty. If they were in the countryside, his kid would have already started school.

"Let's wait a couple more years. There's too much going on right now. Even if we have a baby, I can't look after it. Let me sort out the company first, okay?" Crystal refused without any hesitation.

Shawn's eyes dimmed. After a moment of silence, he said, "Let's sleep."

Meanwhile, in a luxurious mansion.

Frank leaned back on the couch, his face filled with anger.

A young woman in a long gold dress, with a round face and a bit of baby fat, was gently massaging him. She asked, "Frank, is this strong enough?"

"Mm." Frank nodded, his expression still grim.

Even now, he was still experiencing waves of pain in his abdomen. That kick was so strong that he hadn't fully recovered yet.

"Would you like to call the police?" A man with a scar on his face asked indifferently from a nearby chair.

Frank shook his head and gritted his teeth, saying, "Call the police? He'll be detained for a few days at most. That's too lenient. That nerd actually dares to challenge me. He must have a death wish!"

A glint of ferocity flashed in the scarred man's eyes. "So you want to… take him out?"

"No, he's the son-in-law of the Stewart family after all, and Crystal seems to care about him a lot. Killing him would cause too much trouble."

Frank instantly dismissed the idea without a second thought.

"Are you just going to let it slide then?"

"Haha, no way! Send some people to break his legs. After he becomes a cripple, I'll steal his woman. I want him to suffer!"

"Alright."

When Shawn woke up in the morning, his wife had already left for work.

When he checked his phone, he found that the alarm he had set was turned off. No doubt Crystal was the one who did it.

He opened his phone, and there was a message from his wife:

"Honey, you should sleep in today. I'm off to work!"

Shawn shook his head with a smile. Usually, he would wake up early, prepare breakfast, and then wake his wife.

It was rare for him to sleep in, so he lay in bed for a while longer before getting up to wash up. He then headed to the kitchen to cook a bowl of noodles for himself and had breakfast while watching a video.

When he headed out, he found that his Audi was still in the garage.

It seemed his wife's car had been repaired.

He glanced at his watch. It wasn't even 8 o'clock yet. He started the car and drove leisurely to Southsky University.

Southsky University was located in the eastern part of Southsky City. Shawn arrived at the school in less than twenty minutes.

He headed for the library. Right after he locked his car, someone greeted him.

"Mr. Holt!!"

The crisp voice, filled with surprise, came from a distance.

Shawn looked up and smiled, "Roxy, it's been a while! You've graduated, right? What brings you to school today?"

A tall and graceful woman approached, youthful and beautiful, with a delicate face. Her name was Roxy Landon. She used to spend every day in the library during her years at Southsky University.

"I'm here to see you, of course! It's been a year and you're still in excellent shape!" Roxy said with a smile. She playfully punched Shawn's chest with her small fist, her cheeks slightly flushed.

It was June, and Shawn was wearing a black short-sleeved shirt which showcased his sturdy physique.

Roxy was very pretty and her figure was striking, but she still paled in comparison to Crystal. Shawn said with a smile, "Let's have a chat in the library."

The two entered the library, catching many eyes, especially Shawn, who attracted shy glances from several girls.

In fact, since he took on the role of librarian, the number of girls visiting the library had increased by a substantial margin.

"Wow, you're still as popular as ever. I bet you receive plenty of love letters!" Roxy said playfully.

They found a quiet spot and sat across from each other.

Shawn said helplessly, "Love letters are nothing. Not long ago, a sophomore girl confessed to me in front of the library with 999 roses!"

"Wow, really? What happened next?"

"What else? She ran away crying, and I had to clean up the mess."

"Hahaha, that does sound like you!"

Roxy laughed while imagining the scene, while Shawn shook his head with a wry smile.

"Mr. Holt, with your knowledge, why are you holed up in this library? You should start a business. I'll invest in you. Your battlefield should be the stock market and the business world!" Roxy suggested earnestly.

Shawn shook his head with a smile, "You wouldn't understand."

Roxy hesitated, "Could it be... because of your wife?"

Shawn fell silent.

"Hmph, I knew it!"

Roxy was unhappy, feeling a strange bitterness in her heart.

"What about you? What have you been up to since graduation?" Shawn asked with a smile, trying to change the topic.

The truth was, after yesterday's incident, Shawn already had some ideas in his mind, but he was still thinking about it.

Crystal was a very busy woman, and the time they got to spend together was already limited. If he started his own business, their time together would inevitably decrease further, which would definitely affect their relationship...

He was capable of making money, but he wasn't particularly enthusiastic about it.

Roxy casually took a book from the nearby shelf and placed it in front of her, saying nonchalantly, "My dad sent me to our company headquarters in Swallowfield for a whole year to gain experience. I've just got back and plan to start my own business. I acquired a construction company."

Shawn had long known that Roxy came from a rich family, but he didn't want to pry too much. He nodded and asked, "The construction industry's not easy. Is it a shell company, or does it have projects?"

Roxy replied excitedly, "Of course it has projects! The nursing home in the city's southern district is built by our company. It's almost done!"

"The nursing home in the south? That's a government project. The company sounds promising!" Shawn exclaimed, impressed by the fact they had received a government tender.
