Marianna's POV.

The next morning, I still laid in bed, pretending to sleep until Drey left for work.

When he was gone, I stood up and grabbed my phone.

There was a message from Vivian.

“Hey, Anna. Good morning. Did you check the photos? It's not what I'm thinking, right? When you wake up, call me”

I called her like she had requested, the phone ringing for a while before she picked up.

“What were you thinking?” I started.

“He's not cheating on you, is he?” She asked, her voice raised and croaky.

“You must have misunderstood” I lied with a chuckle. “It was just a business outing”

Vivian went silent and I could tell my friend was not convinced. “Are you sure?”

“Of course. You should hurry to work before you get late, you must be busy”

“You had something to tell me yesterday. What was that?” Vivian demanded.

I went silent for a while, contemplating whether to tell her or not, but I knew I shouldn't. I should solve this alone.

“It's nothing. I just wanted to chat with you, it's been a while” once again, I lied.

We talked for a few more minutes about how she was doing before the call finally ended.

I was all alone in the room, yesterday's scene replaying in my head again.

I didn't have a plan, but I knew I would escape Drey Lauren, I'll avenge my parents death, and I will make him regret everything he had done to hurt me.

….

Like the weather and time were also against my existence in the world, nightfall came faster than ever.

I was waiting in the sitting room, my gaze fixed on the wall clock as it ticked.

7pm and Drey was not here yet.

I was nervous, chest heaving heavily, thoughts going around in my head and making my palms sweaty.

Did the plan change? Will I truly die alongside this little baby inside me?

I had barely gathered my thoughts when the door opened, startling me.

I stood up immediately. “You are back, honey”

Drey moved closer with a smile, pulling me into a tight hug. My body shivered, hands shaking terribly but I tried to calm down.

“Yes, honey.” he pulled out of the hug. “I need a quick shower”

I smiled nervously. “Take your time”

I watched as Drey moved towards the stairs but suddenly, he stopped again and turned to me.

“Ah!” He exclaimed. “The florist told me to inform you to pick the flowers up tonight since she won't be available for the rest of the week”

That was it. The plan to get rid of me!

Every Thursday, I pick flowers from a nearby flower shop to replace the ones in the vase.

“I would have loved to pick it up for you, but I know you don't like deliveries,” Drey continued, smiling widely.

I gulped hard but managed to put a smile on my face.

“Of course, I'll go get it quickly” I turned and picked my car keys, heading to the parking lot immediately.

I stood in front of my car, staring at it with a heavy heart. Flattening the tires was Drey's plan, but mine is to survive the malfunctioned car no matter what.

To get back at him, I'll make him believe his plan succeeded. In short, I'll fake my death.

I opened the car and slid in, hands on the wheel. I took a deep breath, knowing this was insane.

I knew the tyres were flat, but I gripped the wheel.

I fastened the seatbelt, taking one last glance at my baby before starting the drive. “Let's do this”

I drove out of the parking lot onto the streets and into the main road.

The night was quiet, the road almost free from cars. A few minutes into the drive, all the tyres started going flat and I knew it was time.

I needed to find a place to fake an accident. I stepped on the accelerator, putting the car in its highest speed.

Suddenly, the seat belt unfastened, making my eyes widened in surprise.

“What's happening?” I muttered.

I tried to fasten the seatbelt again but it wouldn't bulge. The brakes also didn't respond.

My heart clenched, fear suddenly grasping me. Drey didn't only tamper with the tyres, but also the brakes and my seatbelt.

The car door also didn't open, the speed kept increasing, traffic rules getting violated and my body shook in terror.

“What do I do?” I croaked. Tears blurred my eyes, threatening to spill.

A thunder rumble came from the sky, everywhere getting clouded with darkness. Suddenly, rain started falling heavily, the sound of the raindrops causing more fear and making my tears spill through my cheeks uncontrollably.

The headlights won't work, everything getting filled with darkness. I became so scared, really scared I would really die.

“My baby….. oh no, what do I do?” I cried. “I can't let the baby die!”

I avoided cars by swerving to the right and left. I pressed the horn repeatedly to get through the busy parts of the road.

I feared for my life and that of others. I underestimated Drey, I thought this was something simple.

I never knew…… “Oh, no!!” I yelled, swerving to avoid an incoming car from hitting mine.

The rain kept pouring, the thunder rumbling continuously.

I saw a sign upfront. “Construction in progress, do not enter” but the car couldn't stop, it rammed into the construction tools while I took that as a chance to die like Drey had wanted.

I swerved the car with full force to the left, hitting the car with something hard.

That forced the car to a stop, making my head slam hard onto the wheel. A groan escaped my lips as the car door flung open.

I rolled out of the car with force, falling to the cold rainy floor.

My blood got mixed with the rain, trickling down from my head to the sides.

My eyes were hazy, barely able to see anything. My body was freezing from the cold and my stomach was hurting so much, but I didn't even have the strength to check if my baby was fine.

Suddenly, an umbrella came above my head. I tried to raise my head but the pain wouldn't let me. All I saw was a pair of shoes and legs which definitely was that of a man.

“Save me” I pleaded. “Please save me” My pleas were barely audible but I desperately hoped he would come to my rescue.
