Chapter 3

Author: Cher
"Is that Lyrik?" Seraphina asked in a surprised tone as she tugged on Liam's sleeve and pointed in my direction.

He looked panicked when he saw me, before it turned into shameful anger.

I calmly raised my glass to them and took a graceful sip of whiskey.

"This tramp actually followed us!" muttered Seraphina under her breath.

Liam jumped to his feet and stormed towards my table. He looked full of rage.

"Lyrik, what the hell are you doing? How dare you follow us?" he asked, his voice shook with anger.

"Following you?"

I let out a chuckle and continued, "Aren't you mistaken, Liam?"

Seraphina walked over in heels, sat across from me, and smiled smugly.

"I'm curious, Lyrik. How did you get in here? Laurel Manor isn't a place where anyone can enter. Did you use Liam's membership and pretended to be his mate?" she asked, drawing out her words on purpose.

Liam turned red with fury. He asked, "What? Why would I ever bring her here?"

In his eyes, even after seven years together, bringing me to a place like Laurel Manor would have been an insult to his status.

"That's strange. Lyrik shouldn't have the right to get in here alone," she said while looking at me thoughtfully.

Realization dawned on Liam. His gaze turned scornful and he asked, "What tricks did you use to sneak in, Lyrik?"

"I think I know. For girls like you to enter high society, you always need a certain… special method," she said, her voice dripping with malice.

Guests at nearby tables started whispering.

"I understand. Not everyone has the right bloodline or family, but relationships like that never last long," she went on sweetly.

Liam looked at me. He asked in a cutting tone, "When did you become like this, Lyrik? Chasing vanity and willing to stoop this low. I can't believe you're my mate who I wasted seven years with. No wonder you wanted to break up with me last night. You must have found a richer man."

"Are you two done?" I finally replied. My voice was terrifyingly calm.

"We're not judging you, Lyrik. We just think you should face reality," said Seraphina with mock concern.

I stood and asked, "Are you done? If you're finished, then leave. I'll say this for the last time. Liam and I are over. If you want trash like him, you can have him, Seraphina!"

"What did you say? I can bring you here another time if you really want to be here. You don't need to sneak in, and don't you dare disrespect Seraphina.

"Besides, your bloodline could never compare to hers. She's a Highborn, and you're nothing more than an ordinary Omega!" Liam exclaimed as he furiously grabbed my arm and pointed at Seraphina.

Seraphina giggled and said, "Don't be so defensive, Lyrik. Liam and I are just friends. Oh, I forgot to tell you. I pulled some strings and got Liam a marketing director position at the Apex Group."

She turned to me and gave me a provoking look.

The Apex Group was the most powerful business empire in North America.

"He starts tomorrow," said Seraphina.

She paused deliberately and continued, "A company of that level demands real competence and power. I can help Liam. What can you do?"

"Liam's future has nothing to do with me. Bragging about it is meaningless," I fought back calmly.

Liam seemed convinced I was only mad at him. He kept yapping and said, "Don't say things like that while I still have feelings for you. We're more than qualified to work at the Apex Group because of the capabilities of our bloodline."

His tone was full of arrogance.

I could not help but laugh. I said, "Let's see how long you two can last. People with no morals don't stay at the top for long."

"Are you comparing yourself to us, you Omega? Lyrik, you're not thinking about getting into Apex Group too, are you? A place like that doesn't let prostitutes in," said Seraphina with a spiteful gaze.

I sneered and mocked, "Funny, that sounds like projection. Maybe you're the one trading yourself for resources. Why else would you spread rumors so easily?"

Seraphina flushed with rage and pointed at me, stuttering, "You… You…"

I ignored her and walked straight to the elevator.

I finally saw Liam for who he was. He was not worth another ounce of my love.

I only blamed myself for not realizing sooner that he was only a shallow man.

The elevator doors closed, shutting out their voices.

I pulled out my phone and checked out the official website of the Apex Group.

There was a posting on the careers page, the executive assistant to the CEO. I applied without hesitation and uploaded my resume.

It was not to prove anything to anyone, but to begin a new life on my own terms. Not by any connections, nor shameful shortcuts, but with my capabilities.

The notification tone chimed when I sent my application successfully. It sounded clear and determined.

The next morning, I woke to the buzz of my phone.

The caller ID showed that it was from the Apex Group.

Three nights later, the starry banquet hall at the top of the Apex Tower blazed with lights. All the Highborn of the pack received invitations to witness the legendary Moonborn Bonding Ceremony. The hall was decorated like a dream, filled with a romantic and sacred atmosphere.I wore a long silver-white gown embroidered with delicate moons and stars, they glittered under the lights like a galaxy. Adrian wore a fitted black tailcoat with the mate insignia we designed together pinned to his chest. The High Priest of the Elder's Council stood before us and began to chant the sacred words in an ancient language of the pack.It was a ritual passed down for a thousand years. Every syllable carried a mysterious power.Moonlight poured through the giant glass ceiling onto us, adding a holy glow to the ceremony.Representatives from packs all over stood solemnly, showing us their highest respect.I saw many legendary Alphas, their eyes full of awe and blessings."In the presence of the

I looked at his teary eyes and gave him an honest answer without any hesitation."I did love you. I loved you deeply. I once wanted to change everything about myself for you. Back then, I naively believed that love meant compromise and unconditional sacrifice," I said very softly.A faint light flashed in his eyes. Although our relationship failed, he had been loved."I don't love you anymore because I finally understand that real love isn't about suppression and sacrifice. It's about helping each other grow, encouraging each other, and becoming better people together," I added.Liam nodded slowly, tears finally slipping down his face. "Thank you, Lyrik.""Thank you too. Thank you for making me understand what kind of love I deserve," I said in a gentle but firm voice.I stood and looked at the man I once loved for the last time.Seven years of our relationship, from sweet beginnings to the bitter end, had finally come to an end."Goodbye, Liam. I hope you can find someone comp

The next day, I pushed open the heavy glass door of that cafe right on time. The cafe held so many memories of us, from our first dates to our countless conversations. We went from being sweet to arguing, from hope to despair. My heart felt nothing when I walked in again.Liam sat in our old favorite corner, wearing the same blue sweater he had worn when we first met.The only difference was he looked so much older, as if he had suffered a lifetime in a short while. The light he once had in his eyes was gone."Thanks for coming," he said.He stood up and, like so many times before, pulled out a chair for me. However, the movement was stiff. It was as if we were strangers.I sat quietly without saying anything. I only waited for him to speak.Soft music played in the cafe. A few young couples whispered to each other. The vibes were romantic."I know I have no right to ask for your forgiveness, but I want to apologize to you in person. For everything I did wrong, and for all the

Three days later in the afternoon, I looked down from the huge floor-to-ceiling window of my office and saw Liam walking out of the Apex Tower alone. He carried a worn-out cardboard box filled with all of his personal belongings. The dismissal notice and legal charges had destroyed his status and his future in the pack.Being exiled from the pack was the harshest punishment in our society. He looked defeated, as if he had aged ten years overnight."Liam! Wait, Liam!" someone called out.It was a familiar and desperate voice.I saw Seraphina stumble out from the shadows of the parking lot, and she ran toward Liam. She looked awful, like she was homeless. Her hair was a tangled mess, her dark circles were obvious, and her mental breakdown made her look like an unstable woman. Her clothes were wrinkled and stained, with none of her former shine or elegance left."Please get me out of here. Let's leave together, we can go to another city where no one knows us and start over," sh

"Your real name is Sarah Collins. You're from a farming family that went bankrupt three years ago," said Magnus. His voice rang clearly through the conference room. Each word felt like a death sentence to Seraphina. The color on her face drained."No! That's not true! You're framing me!" she yelled in a shrill voice as she shook her head hysterically. All her practiced elegance was gone.I sat calmly in my chair, watching it all unfold. That woman was finally about to pay for her lies and cruelty."At eighteen, you were charged with credit card fraud and identity theft. You fled to another territory before the case closed," said Magnus. He turned another page of the file and continued relentlessly, "There, you forged multiple noble identities, posing as a descendant of ancient bloodlines."Gasps swept across the room. Every gaze turned to the woman whose facade had crumbled.Everything about her was fake. It was a careful web of lies from the start."In the last five years, yo

Adrian smiled with a trace of mockery. He slowly stood, and his powerful Alpha presence spread through the conference room. The tension grew heavy, and everyone in the room struggled to breathe.I glanced at Seraphina. She looked stunned, clearly she had not expected Adrian to answer that way.Her complexion drained from flushed red to a ghastly white. I caught a flicker of fear in her eyes.Adrian walked to my side and rested a hand on my shoulder. He said clearly, "Everyone, allow me to make a formal introduction. Lyrik carries the legendary Moonborn bloodline."The conference room became dead silent. It was as if the air froze. Everyone held in their breaths."Moonborn bloodline?" repeated the finance director. His voice slightly trembled with disbelief."My God… The legendary Moonborn…" muttered another director."That's impossible! She's only an ordinary Omega! How can she be of the Moonborn bloodline?!" screamed Seraphina. Her tone was filled with fear and denial."Enou
